The Resonant Knife, First of the Reshaped, originally known as Keit'Ehr, is a Taken Subjugator[1] seen commanding the forces of the Dire Taken and Dread on the Dreadnaught. It would be responsible for killing Eris Morn when she and Drifter went to investigate the Taken's resurgence on the Dreadnaught.
Biography[edit]
- "First of the Reshaped, Keit'Ehr, flain from resonance. Prove your existence by escaping this death. Should you rise, and find us again, your strength will be known."
- — The Witness [2]
Keit'Ehr was the first attempt by the Witness to create Dread using the Light within the Traveler's Pale Heart in combination with its own Resonant Darkness. The resulting being was too weak to move and remained dormant following its creation, forcing the Witness to abandon it as a failure, but not before giving it a name and instructing it to seek them out should it manage to survive, claiming that they would be recognized for their strength if they did so. From their resting place, Keit'Ehr watched the creation of the other Dread and the death of the Witness. Only afterwards would it awaken and go on to prove its worth as a Subjugator.[2]
Some time later, Keit'Ehr arrived on the Dreadnaught in search of an outflung spark, finding the throne of Oryx empty and questioning the reason why they were remade into a Dread. They eventually began to hear a new voice that had been created by the Taken and declared to it that it would be its servant if it granted them power. Keit'Ehr was then Taken by the voice and rechristened itself as "The Resonant Knife, First of the Reshaped". Now with newfound purpose, the Resonant Knife would call for the Dread to join them on the Dreadnaught.[3]
When Eris Morn and the Drifter boarded the Dreadnaught to investigate the resurgence of activity on the ship, the Resonant Knife ambushed them in the Court of Oryx alongside a horde of Dire Thrall. Though they were shot point-blank in the face by Eris, the Resonant Knife withstood her attack and brutally killed the Lightless Hunter by impaling her through the chest before dragging her body away. The Guardian later confronted the Resonant Knife during a ritual with several Cruxes of Darkness and Blights, and ultimately forced it to flee.[4]
When the Guardian discovered that the Echo of Navigation was created from the memory of Oryx, the Taken King, the Resonant Knife appeared before them, leading a large attack force of Dire Taken. This time, the Guardian would be the one to flee.[5]
Upon learning that Eris Morn was actually alive and had her own Throne World, the High Heresy, the Guardian and Eris worked together to prepare a ritual which would imprison the Echo of Navigation in Eris's Throne World. When the ritual finally commenced, the Resonant Knife attacked in a bid to prevent the Guardian from binding the Echo to the High Heresy. Despite its best efforts, it would ultimately fail and flee once again once the binding ritual was complete.[6]
The Resonant Knife would appear one last time to stop the Guardian from destroying the Echo of Navigation. However, this time the Guardian had a new weapon in the form of a newly reforged Willbreaker. With this new weapon in hand, The Guardian finally had the power they needed to damage the Taken Subjugator. The two clashed multiple times across the Dreadnaught, with the Resonant Knife retreating to a new location each time it was weakened. Ultimately, after the Guardian chased the Echo of Navigation to the Trenchway and overcame the wrath of the Hive Pantheon, the Resonant Knife fought with the Guardian in its enraged state in a final attempt to protect the Echo from any further harm. However, its efforts proved futile, and it finally met its demise as the Guardian struck it down with Willbreaker.[7]
Gameplay[edit]
Recce[edit]
The Resonant Knife will be encountered at the Mausoleum as the final encounter of the mission. It will be stationed on a rock and will possess Immunity that shields the Subjugator from any harm. Throughout the encounter, the Resonant Knife will fire projectiles at the Guardian and continuously summon forth Grims, Husks, and Ravenous Dire Ogres. To disrupt the Resonant Knife's ritual, the Guardian must destroy the Blights embedded onto the Cruxes of Darkness scattered across the area. Destroying the Blights on a Crux will cause other Blights to appear on another, which must be eradicated through the same manner. Once all of the Blights on each Crux are destroyed, the Cruxes of Darkness will dissipate and the Resonant Knife will retreat.
Kludge[edit]
Following the Hive Gods reunion on the Dreadnaught, the Resonant Knife will manifest at the portal frame in the Hall of Souls where it will initiate a confrontation with the Guardian by utilizing its abilities. Rather than engaging with the Taken Subjugator directly, the Guardian must flee from the Hall of Souls and navigate to the Trenchway while evading Dire Taken forces.
Renascence[edit]
The Resonant Knife will manifest at the portal frame in the Hall of Souls, encased in a large circular Taken shield while summoning forth hordes of Dire Taken. To progress through this encounter, the Guardian must acquire their newly constructed blade and cut down the Dire Taken forces brought forth by the Resonant Knife. After a considerable number of Taken have been slain, the Resonant Knife will deploy two Ultra Taken Knights in the form of Alphrak, Keeper of the Rift and Raphrax, Keeper of the Rift. Once both Taken Knights are slain, the Resonant Knife will retreat and its circular Taken shield will dissipate, allowing the Guardian to cut open a gateway leading to Eris Morn's Throne World.
Mission Captis[edit]
The Resonant Knife reappears at the portal frame in the Hall of Souls when the Guardian has activated a Hive ritual plate to summon the Echo of Navigation. It will remain stationed at the top of the steps, where it will fire projectiles at the Guardian and will summon Taken Blights that conjure Dire Taken. After the Guardian has eliminated the Dire Taken, the Resonant Knife will call forth dozens of Acolyte's Eyes in the centre, including multiple Eyes of Vengeance, while Hive symbols will emerge on the left, right, and centre sides of the area. To progress further, the Guardian must only destroy the Eyes of Vengeance to match the Hive symbol in the middle. Destroying the ordinary Acolyte's Eyes will only result in their rapid reappearance. Once the Eyes of Vengeance are destroyed to match the symbol, the Guardian must repeat the previous steps to complete the rituals on the left and right. When each symbol has been replicated, the Resonant Knife will retreat while the Echo is transported through a Hive portal.
Resile[edit]
The Resonant Knife will first appear at the Hull Breach where it will guard a Taken force field blocking the tunnel leading to the Mausoleum. It will teleport across the area and employ its wide variety of abilities, including Shatterstorm, a powerful shockwave that knocks the Guardian back, and will summon Dire Taken. When all of the Dire Taken have been eliminated, a bright circle will materialize that the Guardian must interact with to summon Willbreaker. Upon acquiring Willbreaker, the Guardian must use the sword to shatter the Resonant Knife's shield and deal damage to the boss. When one third of its health is eliminated, the Resonant Knife will retreat and the Taken forcefield will dissipate.
After the first encounter, the Resonant Knife returns in the depths of the Mausoleum alongside two Channelers of Terror. These Taken Wizards summon forth large Taken eyes that invoke Suffocating Terror, which will kill the Guardian if the debuff stacks to x20. After slaying the Channelers, the Guardian can reacquire Willbreaker to pierce the Resonant Knife's shield and inflict damage upon the Subjugator. The Resonant Knife will retreat once again after losing two thirds of its health.
The Resonant Knife will manifest at the Trenchway during the final encounter when the Guardian has damaged the Echo of Navigation for a second time. Due to its decreased health, the Subjugator will become enraged and become more aggressive. Subsequently, the Guardian will be transported to the Blighted Cyst where they must slay the third and final Shade of Oryx to acquire Willbreaker. When Willbreaker has been acquired, the Resonant Knife will teleport into the Cyst where it will conjure large Taken eyes and summon Grims that will fire at the Guardian from outside of the Cyst. Once the Resonant Knife is slain using Willbreaker, the Guardian will be transported back to the Trenchway where they can destroy the Echo of Navigation to complete the mission.
