Created by the collective will of the Taken |
The Lord of Every Nothing, also known as the will-without-will,[2] is an enigmatic force and master of the Dire Taken.
Overview
Following the death of Oryx, the Taken King, the leaderless Taken would began calling out for a new hand to guide them, singing a song of waiting until an answer came as Oryx's absence was worse to them than the agony he inflicted.[3] In time, this collective desire for a master was what would conjure the Lord of Every Nothing from the Ascendant Realm.[4] As a result, it would be able to Take other beings without needing to bring them before the Winnower[5][6], known as the Dire Taken. Now that it had been created, it would continue to exist, not needing to its servants to exist but would grow from their worship of it and deaths until it was strong enough to stand on its own and leave the Ascendant Plane to the physical universe for greater feed.[2][1][7]
In addition to the Taken, the Lord would also gain control of the Dread left leaderless after the death of Witness. Most notably, Keit'Eir, the first Subjugator created by the Witness, would encounter the Lord of Every Nothing aboard the Dreadnaught as it was searching for the Echo of Navigation and would be Taken by it to act as an avatar to call the Dread to the Dreadnaught[8] and to acts as its voice.[2]
Following the destruction of Nightfall Station, Keit'Eir would sing a hymn of balance to the Lord in the Ascendant Realm, stating that all Dread and Taken killed would lead back to it and that its power tithed from them was allowing it to rival VI of the Nine. Once it was strong enough, it would be able to switch places with VI, leaving it able to raze the physical universe while VI would be trapped in the Ascendant Realm.[1]
