Xir-Kuur, Not-Taken, is a Hive Knight of Xivu Arath's Horde. His identity would become splintered between being a Hive and a Taken by Oryx, the Taken King after rejecting the process.[1]

Biography[edit]

Hailing from the brood of Xivu Arath, Xir-Kuur challenged Oryx through right of the Sword Logic following his communion with the Deep and the construction of his Dreadnaught from the remains of Akka. Ultimately, Xir-Kuur was bested in combat by Oryx and would be Taken in the aftermath of his defeat. Driven by his devotion to the Sword Logic, Xir-Kuur rejects the offers proposed to him by Oryx, as he viewed himself as unworthy of this power due to his defeat. As a consequence of his refusal, Xir-Kuur's identity would become splintered between both a Hive and a Taken where he would remain within the Dreadnaught for an unprecedented period of time.[1]

Innumerable years later, Xir-Kuur's splintering identities would generate a signal with two distinct energy signatures located within a chamber known as the Core of Corruption. This signal would attract the attention of the Dire Taken and the Dread, who would begin to pursue his location. Unaware of the nature behind the origin's signal, Sloane triangulates Xir-Kuur's location and dispatches the Guardian to investigate its origin.[2]

Delving deep into the Invasion Bay, the Guardian enters into the Core of Corruption, where they acquire the Barrow-Dyad. Following their acquisition of the weapon, the two identities of Xir-Kuur would ambush the Guardian along with forces of the Dire Taken. Although Xir-Kuur's Hive identity would be slain, his Taken identity would be consumed in a Taken Blight and re-emerge augmented in strength after taking a new shape. Despite his enhanced power, Xir-Kuur, Taken would be unable to vanquish the Guardian as they sealed the chamber with the ritual of expulsion to banish him from this plane of existence.[3]

Gameplay[edit]

The Not-Taken and Taken variants of Xir-Kuur will materialize within the Core of Corruption after the Guardian has destroyed the small Blights around the room where they serve as the final bosses of Exotic Mission "Derealize". The Not-Taken variant will materialize on the lower floor where he will be susceptible to damage, while the Taken variant will be located on the higher floor bearing an Immunity Shield for protection. Additionally, the differing forms of Xir-Kuur will be assisted by hordes of Dire Taken as well as large eyes that will give the Guardian the Suffocating Terror debuff that will eliminate them if it reaches 20x.

When the Guardian has eliminated one third of the Not-Taken variant's health, they will gain the buff known as Torn between Dimensions. Additionally, the Not-Taken variant will evoke an Immunity Shield and retreat to the higher floor in contrast to his Taken counterpart who will be deprived of its immunity and jump down to the lower floor. In a corresponding fashion, the Guardian must eliminate one third of the Taken variant's health until he restores his Immunity Shield to manifest small Blights around the room. Destroying the Blights will cleanse the Guardian of the Torn between Dimensions buff and dispel the Immunity Shield of the Not-Taken variant. This process must be repeated until Xir-Kuur's Not-Taken identity is slain.

In response to the death of its Hive counterpart, Xir-Kuur, Taken will drop down to the lower floor where he will be submerged in a Taken Blight. The Blight will then dissipate as Xir-Kuur re-emerges larger in size, immune to any damage and gains the ability to fire Darkness Bolts. To end the final encounter of the mission, the Guardian must exit the room and step on the Hive plate to seal the door to contain Xir-Kuur, Taken within the room. Once the door is sealed the final encounter of the Exotic Mission is complete and the Guardian can claim their rewards.
