Basilius the Golem was a Cabal Colossus of the Red Legion stationed on Mars. Ordered to head off world by his long deceased Valus, Basilius sought to augment his body to become even stronger and after his arrival on Europa, aspired to become the first of his battalion to become a Cabal Exo. He would be one of many aspiring champions seeking to join Empress Caiatl's War Council through the Rite of Proving.

Biography[edit]

A Colossus with no rank nor title, Basilius was a commander on Mars and a subordinate to an unnamed Valus. During his missions on Mars, he grew accustomed to the bitter cold of the Martian wastes. He was ordered by his Valus to head off-world with his subordinates on a reconnaissance mission. Although he disliked such assignments, Basilius avoided being on Mars when it disappeared following the arrival of the Black Fleet. After a failed mission on Nessus, Basilius redirected his cruiser to Europa after the arrival of Empress Caiatl in the Sol System and her announcement that the Cabal homeworld of Torobatl had fallen to the Hive. Despite the Fallen presence there, Basilius hoped that the Psions under his commander might find much of use in the human ruins buried beneath the icy surface that he could present to the Empress to earn a place on her War Council through the Rite of Proving.[1]

Basilius' effort drew the attention of the Vanguard, who dispatched the Crow to trail him.[2] Learning of his intentions to scavenge Golden Age and Vex technology, Lord Saladin Forge ordered Basilius to be hunted down and killed. Basilius's forces came under assault by the Guardians as he led an incursion into the Nexus. In his haste to find something useful, his forces were cut off from the surface by the Vex. Establishing his command in the Well of Infinitude, Basilius was challenged to the Rite of Proving by the Guardians. Faced with either death or dishonor by turning down the challenge, Basilius accepted and faced the Lightbearers. Basilius and his soldiers were killed in the confrontation, eliminating another contender for Caiatl's War Council.[3]

Gameplay[edit]

Basilius is the final boss of the Battleground: Hailstone activity. Once the fireteam begins the Rite of Proving, he and his troops will join the battle via Drop Pod. Basilius is unrelenting, moving into a position and staying there to unleash a hail of fire with his Power Slug Thrower, quickly switching targets as soon as one takes cover or dies. Occasionally, he will often open up a volley with his Cluster Missiles to make a target even more vulnerable. When approached up close, Basilius will stop the ground in a Quake, which will engulf his immediate vicinity in Solar flame. As the fight goes on and his health and troops are depleted, he will call forth increasingly large and powerful waves of Cabal.

Every third of his health, Basilius will call forth a Shieldbearer to maintain an immunity shield around himself, requiring the fireteam to eliminate the foe before the battle can continue. Every half of these thirds, he will summon a Portable Cabal Shield, forcing the fireteam in close quarters with him. Correctly handling his reinforcements and striking him while he's alone is the key to bringing the Golem down.
