trust me I know the headache as I wanna add them so bad to the species list, but their complex nature makes such ideas impossible to do. Other contributing reasons is the units in the Dread that are literally psions but with warped genetics. I refer to the Weaver and Attendant plus my own fanfiction Dread Psions; The Gale, Retainer, and Apostle. But for the purposes of this conversation only the canon stuff matters and they make it impossible to put the Dread down as a Species despite the fact they are technically a species. Then again if we knew what Nezarec was, we could solve so many problems. But it's doubtful we will ever know.

Thats what makes adding them to any list as a race not possible.

The Dread are interesting because they are a faction but technically speaking they are also a race but first and foremost they are a faction its complicated as we don't know what the Tormentors or rather Nezarec is. The same applies to some other things.
