- "Stay back! The Exo frame is the center of the corruption!"
- — Vesper Central[1]
The Corrupted Puppeteer is an AI built by the Clovis Bray corporation using Vex technology, which Clovis Bray I intended as a programmable Vex Mind for observing their kind.[2][3] It was originally confined aboard Vesper Station, until debris from the Morning Star impacted the station and set it loose, enabling it to transfer itself into a Fallen Exo body.[4]
When Fallen refugees from the House of Salvation attempted to establish a community near the station and build an Ether refinery, it began to hunt them down and assimilated their minds into its collective consciousness. With the Fallen under its command, it continued to coordinate the construction of the Anomaly next to the Station as a communications relay, broadcasting messages into the cosmos beyond.[5][6] It was ultimately killed by the Guardian and their fireteam after they were sent by the Spider to investigate the station and stopped it from channeling power to the megastructure.[1]
Gameplay
- Main article: Vesper's Host § Shutdown
Before the start of the final encounter, the Corrupted Puppeteer will be seen communing with the Anomaly. Once the players approach her, she will turn around, activating the arc pulse of the Anomaly and retreat into the station. The Puppeteer will spawn within the station at the start of the final encounter, wielding a modified Wire Rifle. It will mostly fight from a distance, firing at players with its Wire Rifle and summon its Broken Puppets. Throughout the encounter, players must deposit Nuclear Cores to break the Puppeteer's shield, in which it would then retreat to commune with the Anomaly once more. From the communion platform, it will summon its various Puppets while firing from afar. During the damage phase, players will have to use the nearby room to survive the pulse by killing one of the Broken Puppets and depositing the Nuclear Core. If not killed, the Puppeteer will commune once more, forcing the players to retreat back into the station.
Trivia
- The Exo body used by the Corrupted Puppeteer is identical in appearance to those used by Atraks-1, but with burn marks, loose wiring, a missing lower left hand and other damage to its facial structure; it is unknown if the two are actually related in some way.
- Unlike Atraks-1 in the Deep Stone Crypt Raid, when the Corrupted Puppeteer and its Broken Puppets are defeated, their physical bodies don't disappear. With the Puppets, they just collapse onto the ground, but in the Puppeteer's case, the wing-like objects on its back begin spinning uncontrollably until they collapse.
- The Corrupted Puppeteer has a unique Wire Rifle design, looking like the frame of a Wire Rifle, but infused with Clovis Bray technology to resemble a more Human rifle.
