Introduction[edit]
- Drifter: We've been using Gambit to charge up the Haul for years. Something tells me a little dark matter is just what it needs to do… Whatever the hell it's gonna do. Don't ask me, I'm just a pawn. The Nine are moving the pieces. But I got a feeling we're close to some answers. And the Haul's the key. I'll send down some mine-heads. Keep the local creeps off 'em while I work.
- Or
- Drifter: I'm transmitting some mine-heads on top of those dark matter deposits. Kit-bashed them together from leftover Eliksni tech. Make sure the Exiles don't mistake 'em for their own.
- Or
- Orin: An invisible song surges. The melody of a fading rose. Petals drying of their scent.
- Drifter: You talking about us or the dark matter? Not reassuring either way.
- Or
- Orin: Dark matter flows here. A bioluminescent tragedy, eager to be collected.
- Drifter: That's real good, Orin. You're making more and more sense by the day. Soon we'll be arguing like we used to. Now go collect some bioluminescent tragedy, will ya, hero?
- Or
- Lodi: Conglomerating dark matter into discrete packets identified by bioluminescent silica is… pretty clever.
- Drifter: We call those "Motes", Mr. Linguistics.
- Or
- Drifter: The Haul's ready and waiting to suck up all the dark matter we can mine. House of Exile might have something to say about it, though.
- Or
- Ghost: Drifter, do you even know what happens to all this dark matter once we transmit it to the Haul?
- Drifter: 'Course not. That's way above my paygrade.
- Ghost: That's… not very reassuring.
- Or
- Ikora: Drifter has always been unreliable. But the Nine entrusted him with the Haul for a reason. I intend to honor their decision, even if the thought of being manipulated sets my teeth on edge. So let's bank those Motes, hero.
- Or
- Ghost: I can't believe I'm saying this but… we should trust Drifter on this. The Haul came to him for a reason, and we need to learn what it is.
- Or
- Ghost: I'd be a lot less nervous if I was sure the Nine had our best interests at heart. Or if they had hearts at all!
- Or
- Ghost: Once we fill up the Haul, what do you think the Nine want with it?
- Or
- The Archon: The invaders send their Vex priestess. Now they send their Deathless warriors. They conspire with Aionians, spraying dark matter across the stars! Show them the power of our Grand Design!
- Or
- The Archon: Dark matter belongs to Exiles alone. The faithless desecrate the Giver with their outworld mines. These servants of the Aionians; consorts of the Vex priestess! Send them back to the stars!
- Or
- The Archon: Exiles suffer the Long Drift. Suffer Ether-hunger and starvation of faith. Now we suffer invaders beyond the stars. Who care not for the Giver. Who take, only! Drive them from our gravity-reach! Send then back to the Drift!
- Or
- Drifter: The Vex and Eliksni been tearing each other apart over this dark matter. That's too much heat for the Aionians. They're like the Cryptarchs. Big on ideas, short on action. But that ain't your problem, is it? Come to think of it, you don't have any problems, do you? Prima donna.
- Or
- Lodi: This location was once communally owned. But ever since the Archon took over, it's been a flashpoint for violence. At least that's what I've pieced together from my ethnographic analysis.
- Drifter: All that jabbering ain't gonna protect our mining operation. Watch and learn, company man!
- Or
- Ghost: Both the Aionians and the House of Exiles consider this hallowed ground. We should tread carefully.
- Or
- Drifter: I don't have a dog in this feud between the Aionians and the Exiles… but we need to power up the Haul. So get out there and protect those mine-heads, hero!
- Or
- Ikora: The Aionians used dark matter to research how the Vex manipulate time. But they've been cut off by the House of Exile in recent years. Let's secure the area so they can get back to work.
- Or
- Drifter: This place has a whole mess of dark matter seeping up from the ground. There's plenty for everyone, but if the Exiles don't wanna share… help 'em see reason.
- Or
- Drifter: There’s plenty of dark matter to go around. How come these Exiles don't wanna share?
- Lodi: Sometimes control over a resource is more valuable than the resource itself. And the Archon knows it.
- Or
- Lodi: The dark matter in this valley is more than enough for the Aionians, the Guardians, and Eliksni to share. But the House of Exile don't seem interested in cooperation. They're what we call a "rogue actor".
- Drifter: Funny. I been called damn near the same thing. And in much more colorful language.
Contact Drifter[edit]
- Drifter: Mining equipment incoming. Let’s get this Haul filled up!
- Or
- Drifter: Deploying a new drill now. Shake a tail feather.
- Or
- Drifter: I'm sending down another drill. Look out for it, will ya?
- Or
- Drifter: Got another mine-head on the way. Get moving.
- Or
- Drifter: Move to the next mining stop. I got everything you need inbound.
- Or
- Drifter: New mine-head on the way!
- Or
- Drifter: Get to the next mining site. The Exiles ain't gonna wait for you.
- Or
- Drifter: This spot's solid. On to the next site.
- Or
- Lodi: Drifter's busy eating something that… smells like cat food, but he says that the next drill is on its way.
- Or
- Lodi: This is going well! Let’s press our advantage and secure this valley.
- Or
- Lodi: Normally I'd feel bad about pushing the Exiles off these drill sites. But in my limited experience… they're lousy. And I don't like them.
- Or
- Lodi: We've located another dark-matter-rich area. Clear it out. Please and thank you.
- Or
- Lodi: Hardware is on the move to your location. Prep the site please.
Vex Disruption[edit]
- Drifter: The Vex are being a drag on our mining operation. Clear 'em out.
- Or
- Drifter: The Vex are slowing us down! Take 'em out to get this operation up to speed.
- Or
- Lodi: A group of Vex robots are attacking. Should we… retreat?
- Drifter: Hell, no. Unless Maya herself shows up, the Guardian's got it covered.
Boss[edit]
- Drifter: Deal with this boss so I can get back to my fan fiction.
- Or
- Drifter: They're bringing out the big guns! Show 'em it ain't the size that counts.
- Or
- Drifter: Three courses of dark matter down. Time for dessert.
- Or
- Drifter: Head honcho finally showed up.
- Or
- Drifter: Boss finally poked their head up. Go take it off.
- Or
- Drifter: Why do they always send the big one in last?
- Or
- Lodi: Some kind of giant monster just entered the field! Is that normal?
- Or
- Lodi: Oh geez. I didn't know they came that large.
- Or
- Ghost: The House of Exiles isn't going to give up that easily. Finish them off!
- Or
- Ghost: Eyes up, Guardian! The Exiles sent their best to stop you!
Bonanza[edit]
- Drifter: [laughs] Luck be a Harpy tonight! Looks like you're about to get rich.
- Or
- Drifter: The Vex are all hot in the chassis to run you off. Turn 'em inside out.
- Or
- Drifter: Somebody order Vex with extra loot?
- Or
- Drifter: We got a whole mess of extra goons coming in. Time to earn your keep.
- Or
- Drifter: Aw! The Vex are throwing you a surprise party! Time to cash in.
- Or
- Ghost: The Vex are trying to set up a quarantine. Let's break out of it!
- Or
- Drifter: Extra baddies means extra loot! Make it rain, hero!
Bonanza Failed[edit]
- Drifter: The Vex got away with the juiciest loot, but the Haul's purring and the locals are safe. A win's a win.
- Or
- Lodi: Drifter informs me you lost out by not defeating the surprise robots in time. But… you survived. And in my book, that's a victory.
Rewards[edit]
Gameplay[edit]
Once the activity starts, players will spawn near the Altar of Relativity and a rally flag will be available near the bank. A console can be interacted which will start the activity. One of the drill sites will be activated, and that is where the House of Exile forces will spawn at. Guardians must defend it from the House of Exile and Nessian Schism that will try to sabotage the site. Players are encouraged to use Matterspark to complete some objectives. Once the progress bar is full, a boss spawns in the area. Once a boss reaches a certain amount of health, they must use Matterspark to complete the mechanics unique to each boss. A chest will spawn once the boss is defeated.
Dark Matter Bonanza[edit]
In some instances after a boss is defeated, a Dark Matter Bonanza is triggered where Oracles will spawn near the bank and a timer will count down that lasts for 1 minute and 30 seconds. Combatants will drop motes during the timer and players can only carry 10 motes that can then be deposited into the bank. Depositing the motes will shatter an Oracle, fill up another progress bar, and extend the timer by 10 seconds. If the progress bar is full before the timer expires, additional chests will spawn.
