The Counterfeit Hydra is a Taken Hydra seen as one of the bosses Guardians fight in The Reckoning Arena. As stated by the name, it, along with the other Taken aboard The Haul, was created by the Drifter using the power of The Haul and is therefore not a "real" Taken entity.[1]

Gameplay

The waves of enemies preceeding the Counterfeit Hydra will consist of numerous Taken Vex, including Deceived Hobgoblins. The Hydra itself is equipped with a Solar Aeon Maul and two rotating impregnable shields. It is also capable of firing blinding Darkness Bolts like a Taken Captain, and at close range it will unleash a Temporal Shockwave smash melee which can inflict serious damage. Using Supers and heavy weapons is recommended to take it out.
