- "Legions of the Barant Imperium, hear my call over the mountains and the seas: The Lights have corrupted our Empress. She has drunk from their lies and abandoned Torobatl for the City. We've bled for them. For their City. I implore you: Bleed them in return."
- — Premier Lume[1]
The Barant Imperium is a Cabal Legion that serves Premier Lume and Dredgen Bael in their mission to destroy the Last City and reclaim Torobatl, having advanced technology compared to other Legions due to the assistance of VI of the Nine. They act as the primary antagonist force in the Renegades expansion.
History[edit]
The Barant Imperium was formed after Bracus Lume was dishonorably discharged from his military service following his encounter with the Hive in Savathûn's Throne World.[2] He managed to forge a friendship with the son of Cesar Bizet, a Tex Mechanica magnate, named Nazaire Bizet.[citation needed] Believing that Empress Caiatl had abandoned her interest in retaking Torobatl in favor of her allegiance to the Coalition's cause,[1] Lume began to build the Imperium in secret alongside Nazaire, who became Dredgen Bael after learning texts from the Binary Star Cult,[3] the Shadows of Yor's Understandings of the 7th Book of Sorrow,[citation needed] and Twin Bird.[3] Lume also took some of the prototype technologies with him upon his defection from the Imperial Cabal.[1][4]
After Dredgen Bael was chosen by VI of the Nine to be the Guardian's foil as they were already appointed the Weapon by the Inner Orbits, VII, and VIII, VI was able to quickly develop the prototype technologies to completion via time dilation.[citation needed] Meanwhile, Bael learned to wield the Darkness and began recruiting more Dredgens into the Imperium including Dredgen Sere. The Imperium made their first documented move by going into the European Dead Zone and robbing Xûr for information on the Nine, which was recorded by Aunor Mahal of the Praxic Order.[5] Eris Morn would learn of the Barant Imperium from a secret communication between Kyung and Dr. Em Simoni-Lee.[6] A few months after III's death, the Psions' mistreatment would lead to Enforcer Rao forming a syndicate acting as a platoon of their forces called the Totality Division[7] and receiving communications from Yetic-Ein documenting the horrors of the Dredgens' ambitions.[8]
Above Mars, the Zagan Gloriosus would catch the Derelict after the Drifter had assembled the crew to steal the Encrypted Data Disk from the Imperium. The Guardian was able to board the Command Carrier, free the Drifter, and uncover the advanced technology of the Imperium which included Abalative Armor and Imperium Behemoths.[1] The Barant Imperium also possessed a superweapon called Nightfall Station, where the core was gifted to Bael by the Outer Orbits and contain Eclipse energy, a form of anti-paracausal technology.[citation needed] The Guardian went to work to weaken the Imperium and destroy Nightfall Station after it fired on Tharsis Outpost in the event the Vanguard would dub the Tharsis Ghost Massacre. The Guardian was able to destroy Nightfall Station with the help of the Pikers, Tharsis Reformation, and Rao's syndicate, but Lume and Bael fled.[citation needed] The Guardian then stopped the Imperium forces that were attempting to pillaging a Praxic Order temple on Venus before following them into the Malphas Contempus. They defeated the Barant Dredgen in training named Harrow and his master aboard the ship.[9]

Trivia[edit]
- The Barant Imperium is heavily based on the Empire from Star Wars, with its troops having a similar look and color scheme to the Stormtroopers.
- Additionally, several Elite troops feature an orange pauldron on their left shoulder similar to Stormtrooper Commanders.
- The Barant Imperium is the only enemy Cabal group to not have Phalanxes.
- However, they do possess Phalanx Energy Shields.[10]
- The possible reason for the lack of Phalanxes was probably due to the various shield technology the Imperium had.
- However, they do possess Phalanx Energy Shields.[10]
- When despawning, Barant Imperium troops have the same effect as the forces of the Witness, notably the Shadow Legion.
