Season of Defiance was the 20th season of Destiny 2 and the first seasonal content of the Lightfall annual pass, which began with the launch of the expansion on February 28th, and ended on May 23rd.
The story consist of the Vanguard and the combined forces of The Coalition dealing with the aftermath of the Witness's assault on the Traveler and the subsequent invasion of the Shadow Legion on Earth. Now anointed as the new Queensguard by Mara Sov, Guardians must embark on joint operations with the assistance of the Awoken queen to traverse the Ascendant Realm and rescue captive prisoners from Calus’ forces.

- "In the aftermath of the attack on the Traveler, the Vanguard calls upon its closest allies. Guardians must master the righteous powers of the Awoken to stand against the encroaching Shadow Legion and prove themselves as Queensguard."
