Nightmare Hunts are activities accessible on the Moon, introduced in the Shadowkeep expansion. Hunts are instructed by Eris Morn to Guardians to defeat the Nightmares of the Guardians' most formidable foes to weaken the Pyramid as much as possible.

Overview

Nightmare Hunts are a 3 player activity, with Heroic through Master difficulties, of which only the first is matchmade. Nightmare Hunts are roughly half the lenght of a Strike.

Throughout the activity, Guardians will face mostly Hive and Nightmares, alongside enemies of the Nightmare's original race if it is not already Hive. Champions also feature across the activity, though only the Hive and Vex ones. Common mechanics of the Nightmare bosses consist of becoming invincible until two Major Nightmares are slain, as well as summoning low-tier Minor enemies equipped with abnormally resilient Solar Absorption Shields, that require Nightmare Breaker mods to easily deactivate.

There are a total of 8 Nightmare Hunts, each with their own boss assuming the form of the most potent enemies to Humanity.

Rewards

Each Nightmare Hunt rewards a different Essence to be used at the Lectern of Enchantment to forge weapons and armor, which can also drop from the activity itself. The copious amounts of Nightmares make it easy to find Phantasmal Fragments.
