An example of an auto rifle

"A Guardian can't ask for a more reliable ally than an Auto Rifle. Keep it steady and it'll always bring you home."
Commander Zavala

Auto Rifles are a class of primary weapons featured in Destiny. All-purpose weapons,[1] auto rifles are magazine-fed weapons that, as their name suggests, automatically removes the spent cartridge case, cocks the rifle, loads a new cartridge, and fires again repeatedly as long as the trigger is held down, or until the magazine is exhausted. Auto rifles are distinguished from scout and pulse rifles in their ability to fire constantly once the trigger is pulled without the need for special perks.[2]

Year One

Common

  • Cydonia-AR2
  • Galahad-B
  • Husk of the Pit- Fast-firing auto rifle that is the base version of the Necrochasm. Leveling up this gun requires that you kill a certain amount of a certain type of Hive enemy.
  • Khvostov 7G-02- Slow-firing auto rifle that is the primordial weapon that any and every Destiny player picks up when they play through the tutorial level. This rifle was brought back in Year 3 as an Exotic memorial variant with multiple firing modes and over 100 different customization options. It was brought back a second time as its base variant in the New Light campaign of Destiny 2.

  • Hard Light - 600 RPM auto rifle that can switch elemental damage types at will. Rounds fired from the gun have no damage falloff, bounce repeatedly off hard surfaces and can over-penetrate targets.
  • Sweet Business - Gatling gun-style auto rifle with a 99-round magazine that gains rate of fire and range the longer the trigger is held down. Automatically loads picked up ammo into the magazine if firing.
  • SUROS Regime - Introduced in Warmind.
  • Cerberus+1 - Auto rifle with four different barrels, firing in 4 different directions with a spread and damage fall-off similar to that of a Shotgun.
  • Monte Carlo - Weapon damage reduces melee ability cooldown.
  • Tommy's Matchbook - Sustained fire with this weapon overheats it, increasing damage but burning the user.
