They must stop and stabilize before attacking, opening up their shells and revealing a writhing mass of filaments.[2][3] They are equipped with Harpy Slap Rifles which, as its name suggests, is a weapon exclusively for the Harpy.[4] In Destiny 2, Harpies can also be found using the Vex Laser Rifle. When at rest, Harpies can be seen stretching their bodies towards the sky, while their tentacles graze the ground.

Harpies in Destiny use Slap Rifles, while in Destiny 2 they can employ the Vex Laser Rifle as an alternative weapon. Those that employ laser rifles can be distinguished with their uniquely-colored purple tentacles.
