Clovis Bray is an exoscience group. The corporation was founded by the man of the same name, who was also the founder of House Bray. Their functions include mechanical testing/engineering, technical research, energy annex, and loading/unloading,[1] and acting as a rival to the Ishtar Collective based on Venus.[2] It is the organization that built and owned the Dust Palace on Mars.[3] The Crucible map Blind Watch rests atop an old Clovis Bray science facility on the outskirts of Freehold,[4] and Skyline includes the Clovis Bray Health Center.
History
Clovis Bray was responsible for a number of cutting-edge scientific and technological breakthroughs that advanced the Golden Age. Two of its projects involved nanomachines: "Transmission" and SIVA. While Transmission was intended to enchance the strength, speed, and intelligence of prospective colonists using nanomachines, SIVA used nanomachines to break down matter and reconstitute it in order to rapidly construct entire cities. The Transmission project was eventually shuttered after it caused unforeseen side-effects in test subjects, and Clovis Bray focused entirely on SIVA, which was later completed and approved for deployment. So confident was Clovis Bray in SIVA's capabilities that they eschewed adding safety measures, such as a kill switch. The first SIVA replication chamber, designated SITE 6, was built within the Cosmodrome in order to outfit the colony ships. As with other Golden Age organizations, Clovis Bray ceased to exist during the Collapse.
By the time of the City Age, the surviving records and work of Clovis Bray attained a legendary reputation. Some Guardians were even convinced that the corporation single-handedly sustained the Golden Age and was an epitome of innovation. During their investigation of the Transmission incident, however, the Owl Sector uncovered records that revealed Clovis Bray was more reckless in their pursuit of new advances than previously assumed.
