Guardians assumed they were ordinary shells for warfare against entrenched Vex positions, but later reports showed they were actually explosives for mining and engineering purposes: potentially enough firepower to crack a planet.
The Goliath Tank is believed to be able to fire them from its main cannon.[citation needed] It has been mentioned that a Cabal Fleet used Planet Crackers to blow up Hive War moons from the inside.[1]
