Transcript[edit]

Wolf receives a series of messages from Saladin.

Saladin: Wolf, I received a tip from our scouts.

Saladin: The Cabal dug something up in the mine—something clearly important to them.

Saladin: They dispatched an entire squad to escort this "cargo" to their firebase.

Saladin: If they're devoting that kind of manpower, whatever they found is likely a threat to Veridia. We can't let them secure it.

Wolf: So you want me to intercept this escort squad.

Saladin: Precisely. The good news is, they appear to have encountered some trouble and haven't moved out the cargo yet. Now's your only chance.

Saladin: Zev has the coordinates. Go and crush them all.

Wolf heads to the Red Sea Rift.

Zev: What do you think it is? A new weapon? Or…a new energy source?

Zev: I can't think of anything else that would catch the Cabal's eye.

Wolf follows the coordinates to the Weathered Caves.

Zev: We've reached the target coordinates.

Wolf defeats the Cabal stationed within the cave system. A giant Ahamkara spine jutts out from the center, reaching out of opening of the ceiling and out of sight. A beam of energy spirals down from the sky through the bone. The cargo, a rock-like chest, is located in the back of the large area. Zev scans the cargo.

Zev: This must be their "cargo."

Zev: …

Zev: What the…?

Zev: Whatever this box is made of, I can't scan through it.

Wolf: Guess we'll find out what's inside after we bring it back to Saladin.

A sourceless voice begins whispering to Wolf.

Mysterious Voice: *faint whispers* [She's here. He's here. There he is. They found it. New visitor.]

Zev: What's wrong?

Wolf: I…I thought I heard a voice…

Wolf: …It's nothing. Let's head back.

When attempting to leave, Wolf and Zev discover the passage has been completely sealed off with rocks.

Zev: Hold on—

Zev: Where'd the exit go?

Zev scans the area near the bone. She talks with Wolf as she does it.

Mysterious Voice: What do you wish for most right now?

Wolf: I'd settle for a way out of this chamber at the moment.

A passage leading deeper into the cave system opens up.

Zev: Huh? Who are you talking to?

Wolf: You. Didn't you just ask me what I wanted most?

Zev: No…

Zev: Huh. Well, on the bright side, at least we found an exit.

Wolf goes through a black fog. On the other side is the beginning of the Weathered Caves. More Cabal are there again, and Wolf ends up back by the spine.

Zev: This doesn't make sense! Didn't we…just come through here?

Wolf: These Cabal look awfully familiar too.

Zev: What now?

Zev: Is our only hope going through that "exit" again?

Zev: …Oh, I have a bad feeling about this…

Wolf: But looks like we've got no other choice.

Wolf goes through the black fog again and repeats the same thing.

Zev: I'm sensing a strange power warping this space…

Zev: And when we passed through that tunnel, the changes in our coordinates weren't continuous.

Zev: Something changed them in an instant…

Wolf defeats the Cabal by the spine.

Wolf: Something else is going on too, these Cabal are growing stronger.

Wolf: We can't keep going like this.

Zev: I-I don't want to go through that "exit" again! We need to find another way…

Wolf: Maybe people outside the cave aren't affected by the loop.

Wolf: I mean, we weren't when we first came in, right?

Zev: Let's try contacting Lord Saladin. Maybe he'll know what's going on.

Zev attempts to reach Saladin.

Zev: Lord Saladin? It's Zev! Can you hear me?

Comms: *static*

Zev: Hello? Anyone?

Zev: Oh no… Oh no no no…

Zev: …Something's blocking our communications. I can't reach anyone…

Zev: Wolf… I-I don't know what to do… I'm scared…

A portal opens on part of the spine, and Estela appears from it.

Zev: Who's there?!

Stranger: Um, s-sorry… I didn't mean to frighten you.

Estela teleports to a different part of the spine.

Stranger: I came to… Uh, this may sound a bit strange, but…

Stranger: Did something…weird happen to you?

Zev: Yes! We're trapped here!

Zev: And there was this voice coming from nowhere—

Stranger: Asking you about your deepest wish?

Stranger: You've been ensnared by an Ahamkara.

Zev: An Ahamkara?

Stranger: It's twisting your wish. Trying to trick you, make you desperate to make another wish and then another.

Stranger: But don't worry! This wish is still small, just an illusion.

Stranger: Once you sabotage the ritual here, you'll be free to leave.

Zev: What ritual are we talking about?

Stranger: Oh, sorry… I forgot that you can't see them.

Estela reveals an Ahamkara rune floating in the air.

Stranger: Let's try again. How about now?

Zev: Wow…

Wolf destroys the rune. Estela teleports to another part of the spine and reveals another rune.

Stranger: Good. Try to destroy this one.

Wolf: All right.

Wolf destroys the second rune.

Stranger: Hmm… There should be another one…

Stranger: Ah, here it is.

Estela teleports down to where the black fog is.

Zev: Watch out! That fog will—

Estela disperses the fog.

Zev: Oh!

They enter the correct part of the cave system, and Estela reveals a rune.

Stranger: That's the last one.

Wolf destroys the third rune.

Stranger: Its magic is unraveling. It shouldn't be able to distort reality anymore.

Stranger: You can escape now.

Zev: Thank you so much!

Zev: If you hadn't come along, who knows how long we would've been trapped.

Zev: I'm Zev, and this is my Lightbearer, Wolf.

Stranger: …You can call me Estela.

Estela: I've been tracking an Ahamkara in the region and traced it to this mine.

Estela: Something must have drawn you here as well.

Estela: Did you encounter anything strange before I arrived? It could be almost anything.

Wolf: Well, there was this…

Wolf shows Estela the box the Cabal had been guarding. Estela opens it, and a small part of an Ahamkara spine was inside.

Wolf: What is it?

Zev: …Part of a spine?

Estela: An Ahamkara's remains.

Wolf: Wait, so that voice that was talking to me was…

Wolf: And I made a… Oh, I see.

Estela: This thing is extremely dangerous. You must destroy it.

Mysterious Voice: Oh, such a coincidence…

Mysterious Voice: Right when you needed it most, "help" appears. And now, she is about to destroy your well-earned prize.

Mysterious Voice: Surely you find this girl suspect. What if she caused your entrapment?

Mysterious Voice: Do not trust her, o guardian mine.

Wolf destroys the Ahamkara spine piece.[1]

Mysterious Voice: So, is this your final choice?

Mysterious Voice: You will come to regret it. This, I swear.

Estela: Thank you. You've made the right choice.

They exit the cave without issue and have a conversation.

Zev: Whew! Fresh air and clear skies! Thank the Traveler we're finally out of there!

Wolf: So, what's next for you?

Estela: Me? I'm going to find the owner of that bone.

Zev: That…that Ahamkara?

Estela: I can feel it—it's still alive somewhere nearby.

Wolf: Why are you looking for it?

Estela: Because… People think Ahamkara are creatures that can grant wishes. But it's a lie.

Estela: They deceive you, twist your wishes to feed on them, and revel in your pain.

Estela: I need to hunt them down. It's the only way to prevent more people from making wishes.

Wolf: But I've met an Ahamkara before.

Wolf: He's… Well, I wouldn't call him a bad guy.

Estela: They're masters at hiding their true intentions.

Zev: Maybe you could meet him? He might just change your mind.

Zev: He's in Haven—a really nice city! How about you visit with us?

Estela: I… No, thank you. I need to go.

Estela disappears through a portal.

Zev: An Ahamkara hunter… What a curious Lightbearer!

Wolf: I wonder what Morgran would think of all this…

Enemies[edit]

Cabal - Sand Eaters

Note[edit]

  1. ^ If the player waits too long to destroy the spine, Estela will do it herself. She says:
    Estela: What's stopping you?
Estela: Is it…that you don't trust me?
Estela: The Ahamkara's whispering to you isn't it?
Estela: We can't let any more people fall prey to its lies.
She destroys the spine, and the mission continues from them exiting.
