Suspicions is the sixth mission of Gwynn's Journey.
Objectives[edit]
Transcript[edit]
- Gwynn arrives at the bonfire. She listens to a conversation between Attal and a militia soldier.
Attal: So, what's next for you all?
Militia: Taking care of some business here first.
Militia: Before he was captured, the captain located a Fallen armory, and once he's recuperated, we're going to head there.
Militia: We might be able to grab some new supplies and gear.
Attal: The people here are all working together to build a city beneath the Traveler, they could certainly use your help.
Militia: Thanks for the suggestion. I'll pass it on to the captain.
Militia: But Jiangshi Metro's facing a supply shortage too, especially in terms of fresh water.
Militia: The guerrillas have helped us so much, we want to return the favor.
Attal: Then how about you let me know when you're ready to raid the armory? I'd be happy to lend a hand.
Militia: You're too kind. Anyway, it's getting late. I'm gonna head back and talk to the captain.
- Once the militia soldier leaves, Gwynn approaches Attal with Crowther.
Attal: Phew… Good thing Balder didn't ask anything more about that shot.
Attal: Otherwise, I don't know how I'd be able to face them… So, can you finally tell me what all that was about?
Gwynn: Balder is not that man's real name.
Gwynn: His name is Kyle, and he cannot be trusted.
Attal: You know him? Then why—
Crowther: Kyle… Ugh! That scum!? I knew his voice sounded familiar!
Crowther: I thought he'd been finished off along with Walter, though?
Attal: Walter? The Warlord who imprisoned you, Walter? I thought you didn't spare any of his men…
Gwynn: I left Kyle's sadistic corpse in that castle. If I'd known he wasn't mortal, I would have finished the job.
Gwynn: This does fit my impression of him, though… A cunning chameleon.
Attal: But…
Attal: Maybe he really was just a mortal back then, and his Ghost chose him after you killed his?
Attal: That would explain why he's going by Balder, as well as why he… Well, at least he doesn't seem so evil.
Attal: Besides, I don't think he recognized you.
Gwynn: I was wearing my helmet, and I made sure he never heard my voice.
Attal: I remember you mentioning all the horrible things Walter and his subordinates did, but…
Attal: I find it hard to believe Balder could really be that kind of person.
Gwynn: Kyle was the most heinous of Walter's henchmen. I remember his smile.
Gwynn: The caring face he hid behind while silently developing new ways of torturing us.
Attal: Gwynn…
Crowther: Right? Like that time he doused that pillar Cai was tied to with oil and set it on fire…not to mention what he did to your eye—
Gwynn: Enough.
Attal: I'm sorry for bringing it up. I know those people deserved to be punished for their crimes.
Attal: But…
Attal: Assuming he really did die back then and was revived as Balder, with no memory of what he did as Kyle, then should he still be held accountable for his past self's actions.
Gwynn: He may be able to fool that team do his, but he can't fool me.
Gwynn: Nobody can truly free themselves from their past.
Gwynn: No matter what… Be wary of him, Attal.
