Transcript[edit]
- After having gone through the portal, Gwynn appears within the Ascendant Realm. Floating rocks with buildings on them can be seen in the distance. Ahead of her across a rock covered, broken bridge stands a large, dilapidated building of Jiangshi Metro make. A green light is brightly glowing inside of it.
Crowther: So through the looking-glass, we arrived at a…fractured junkyard? Alrighty then.
Crowther: My sixth sense tells me we should head toward that wacky green light.
- Once Gwynn gets close enough to the building, Attal can be seen trapped floating within the green energy in the middle of a slightly raised platform. Hive forces are there to defend her.
Crowther: There's our hostage. Watch your twelve.
Crowther: Let's take these uglies out so we can grab Miss Peacemaker and get outta here.
- Gwynn takes out the Hive and goes closer to the unresponsive Attal. A rune surrounded with the same green energy is connected to the platform and within reach.
Crowther: Did she pass out? Hmm…
Crowther: That weird rune seems linked to the spell imprisoning her.
Crowther: Time to wake Sleeping Beauty up.
- Gwynn interacts with the rune. The energy surrounding Attal disappears, but she follows all the same, disappearing out of sight. A larger than average Wizard, Ir Eruna, shows up at the same time. Unreachable from her position outside the building, she speaks with Gwynn and Crowther.
Ir Eruna: Well done, Lightbearer.
Crowther: I knew it. Wizards are always full of sheet!
Ir Eruna: I wonder if you will still jest when your shell is crushed, little Light.
- Ir Eruna flies out of view.
Gwynn: Where's Attal?
Ir Eruna: At your destination, of course.
- The path ahead is blocked by a barrier. Another rune is present in front of it.
Ir Eruna: Prove your strength, and reveal what lies behind the curtain.
Ir Eruna: I look forward to your performance.
Gwynn: So much babbling…
- Gwynn interacts with the new rune. Energy comes out of it and surrounds Gwynn for a moment before disappearing inside of her. The barrier also fades.
Crowther: You alright there, Gwynn? You got something on you.
Ir Eruna: A humble gift for your journey.
Ir Eruna: Now embark on the path I've so meticulously prepared for you.
- Gwynn continues ahead, traveling across bridges and through Hive architecture, dodging spiked pendulums, and defeating Hive.
Crowther: Is it just her, or do all her kind gibber like this?
- A Taken Knight blocks the path along with other forces.
Crowther: Oh, they're waiting for us? Grab your scythe—time for a bloody waltz.
- Before Gwynn can take out the Taken Knight, he retreats behind a barrier.
Crowther: Look at that big guy—he's gonna hide behind the battle lines.
Crowther: Seems he's got something up his sleeve.
- The Taken Knight stands in the center of the room and activates a ritual. Thralls begin to be sucked towards him. Each one that makes contact with his body restores a bit of his health, killing the Thrall in the process.
Crowther: Holy hell, big dude's killing his own guys! Let's take them out.
Crowther: Don't want him getting any beefier.
- After taking out the Thralls during the ritual, unable to harm the Taken Knight during it, and ultimately defeating the Taken Knight, Ir Eruna speaks while out of sight.
Ir Eruna: You don't disappoint, Lightbearer. That was a decent first verse.
Ir Eruna: Keep going, keep killing—let me hear your final note.
Crowther: What the—? She WANTS us to kill her own kind?!
Crowther: Wolfie called these ugly things "the Hive"—which makes that sheethead their queen bee.
Gwynn: A bee colony wouldn't be so degenerated as to kill their own kind.
Crowther: More like Warlords, I suppose.
- After continuing forward for a bit and defeating Hive along the way, Gwynn encounters another Taken Knight standing within an open area. A flight of stairs are on each side at the back of the area that lead up to a portal. Other Hive reinforcements appear.
Crowther: More cannon fodder? Hah! Nothing that Gwynn can't handle!
- The Taken Knight begins the same ritual as before before he can be defeated.
Crowther: Get ready, Gwynn. It's gonna kill its minions again!
- Gwynn takes out the Thrall before they can be absorbed.
Crowther: The ritual's interrupted. Now's our chance!
- The Taken Knight is killed. Gwynn heads to the portal.
Crowther: Another one bites the dust! Now let's see if we can find a way forward.
- Instead of being transported elsewhere, the portal disappears while a tall, imposing Hive tower is brought into existence on the path ahead.
Ir Eruna: What a marvelous show of slaughter.
Ir Eruna: I can feel the life essence you reaped—potent, delectable…
Crowther: Shut it, sheet-for-brains! We're gonna cut you into rags and save Attal!
Ir Eruna: You've quite the mouth for something so puny.
- Entering the tower, three statues are just beyond the entrance in a circular room. A set of stairs are present on either side of them. On the next level up, pods are situated in a line side by side along the walls. Some of the pods are open, showing a body squirming beneath a green tinted membrane.
Crowther: Wait, this must be where those missing people are being kept.
- Another set of stairs brings the two sides together, where a ramp continues on off to the side. More pods line the walls on either side, more exposed than not.
Gwynn: But Attal isn't among them.
- The ramp levels off into a flat hallway. Gwynn is greeted by floor lights that flick on as she continues forward, and the door at the end opens for her. On the other side is a large, open chamber. Attal is present in the center of the room within a stone prison with green energy swirling around it. Beneath her is a pit that is blocked by a round grate. Four more of those statues are present slightly away from her and looking toward her. Another rune is in front of Attal. The ceiling cannot be seen. Instead, vision upward is blocked completely by fog at a certain point. Cages and chains can be seen hanging down from there, with chains connecting all the way down to the stone Attal is trapped in.
Crowther: There she is. Careful, though—it's clearly a trap.
Gwynn: Prepare for anything.
- Gwynn interacts with the rune, but the chains lift Attal when she does.
Ir Eruna: Ah, our dear guests have finally arrived.
Ir Eruna: I thank you for the slaughter offered along the Bladed Path.
- Ir Eruna appears and begins the fight against Gwynn.
Ir Eruna: You have surpassed all your predecessors.
Ir Eruna: As for the last trial…
Ir Eruna: I would not object to testing your capabilities personally.
Crowther: Then I hope you've prepared a coffin.
- After defeating a horde of Hive and weakening Ir Eruna, Ir Eruna starts the Thrall ritual for herself.
Ir Eruna: The weak shall feed the strong. The survivors transcend their limits and evolve.
Gwynn: Exaggerate all you want.
Gwynn: In the end, you're just prolonging your disgusting existence through a blasphemous ritual.
- Gwynn defeats Ir Eruna. Another rune appears where Attal had been.
Crowther: She kicked the bucket before you could even go all-out? Pfft!
- Gwynn touches the rune, and green energy disappears into her hand. She falls to a knee.
Ir Eruna: All has proceeded as planned.
Ir Eruna: You fought your way here, reaping the vitality of those who would bar your path.
- Ir Eruna reappears high out of reach, activating her magic. Four chains appear out from the surrounding statues and wrap around Gwynn's body, bounding her arms to her sides. She slowly gets off her knee and stands.
Ir Eruna: Two more sacrifices await here. Then, the sword shall be unsheathed.
- Two Knights are forcibly dragged towards Gwynn, where they are absorbed into her.
Ir Eruna: There will be no escape.
- Ir Eruna teleports down to where Gwynn is.
Ir Eruna: You will become the perfect end to this ritual, and I shall savor the combination of my subordinates' essence and your power.
- Gwynn breaks the chains by using her Super ability, Soul Harvest. Ir Eruna reels back in surprise. Gwynn attacks her and the Hive that come to her aid.
Gwynn: Is that so? How about some blood to whet your appetite?
Ir Eruna: How did you…?
Crowther: You've got two eyes more than me, and you're still blind to Gwynn strength?
Ir Eruna: Foolish.
Ir Eruna: Even if you break free, I will kill you and your garrulous Ghost all the same.
Gwynn: I was going to leave you to be gutted alive by ravens.
Gwynn: But since you've exhausted my patience, I think I'll do it myself.
- Before Ir Eruna can be killed, she gets rid of the gate in the center of the room's floor and flies into a newly opened portal below it. Gwynn watches as she enters it, but instead of giving chase right away, she instead teleports up to where Attal is. Using her scythe, she cuts open the cage. Attal begins to free fall, but Gwynn catches her in a bridal carry and brings her safely down to the floor. She gently props her up against a pile of rubble. Attal shakes her head and looks toward a kneeling Gwynn.
Gwynn: Don't wait for me.
Attal: There are others trapped here. We need to save them!
- Gwynn caresses Attal's helmet and begins to pull away, but Attal grabs her hands. Crowther floats over to them.
Attal: What are you planning, Gwynn?
Gwynn: To do what I do best—finish the funeral.
Crowther: You're serious? That tunnel looks like a sewer…
Crowther: All dark and dirty, no Light in sight.
- Gwynn stands and walks to the portal.
Gwynn: A dive into Death's cold embrace? How could I refuse?
- Attal chases after her as she dives into the portal but falls to her hands and knees just before it and doesn't follow.
Attal: Gwynn!
Crowther: Well, I don't want to miss a thing!
- Crowther follows Gwynn into the portal. On the other side of the portal, they appear within an extremely large structure. Floating platforms lead down in a line towards another large, inactive, portal. Ir Eruna is only one platform away from where Gwynn floats. Gwynn is in a permanent state of her Super.
Ir Eruna: Your pursuit has sealed your fate. Your precious Light cannot help you here.
- Gwynn fights Ir Eruna and other Hive forces. During the battle, they get progressively closer and closer to the large portal as Ir Eruna continuously retreats.
Ir Eruna: How…? How are you still wielding the Light…?!
Crowther: Hah! That ritual of yours helped Gwynn keep some of her powers.
Gwynn: I don't mind only using my scythe. Though, it might get a bit messy.
Ir Eruna: Don't forget where you are, Lightbearer.
Ir Eruna: My subordinates will see your flesh ripped from your very bones.
Crowther: You've done something not even I'd dare to do, disgusting her with your fracking ritual, all while blabbering on and on about how great you are!
Crowther: Your doom's inevitable, hag.
- Their battle eventually brings them in front of the inactive portal.
Crowther: Keep it up! Don't let her escape!
Ir Eruna: No…no! I shall survive. My path…is endless!
- Other Wizards can be seen attempting to open the portal as Gwynn fights off more Hive reinforcements.
Ir Eruna: Answer me, master! Open the gate to your Throne World! Heed my call!
Silence.
- Gwynn defeats the Hive and makes Ir Eruna fall to the floor. Ir Eruna attempts to crawl away but looks back at Gwynn and gets a scythe braced against her neck. She holds her hands up, placatingly
Ir Eruna: Wait!
Ir Eruna: The power within my rune did not reject you.
Ir Eruna: The sword logic… It will see you grow stronger yet.
Ir Eruna: Greater power awaits you—this I promise…
Gwynn: To live by the sword is to die by the sword.
Ir Eruna: For the weak, indeed.
Ir Eruna: Not you… you can ascend.
Ir Eruna: Embrace my ritual and I shall make you death incarnate!
- Gwynn traps Ir Eruna within Void energy and lifts her into the air, scythe poised at her throat all the while.
Gwynn: Your blasphemy ends here.
Gwynn: Death makes no bargains.
- Gwynn beheads Ir Eruna. Gwynn can be seen through Ir Eruna's eyes walking away from her.
