"And my vanquisher will read that book, seeking the weapon, and they will come to understand me, where I have been and where I was going."

Wolf arrives at the bonfire. Attal is watching over the Eliksni children play, with the smallest running between the other two. Gwynn is also there, standing off to the side and watching.

Eliksni Child: Run… Hu-rry!

Eliksni Child: Fa…fast!

Attal: Watch where you're going!

Wolf approaches Attal.

Attal: Oh, hey there, Wolf!

Wolf: They, uh…look to be in good spirits. I take it they've settled in pretty well?

Attal: Ouais! I've brought them out to Haven once, too.

Attal: They had such a good time, and I could see that they didn't hate humans at all!

Attal: We did receive quite a few complaints, though…

Attal: They still have a lot to learn about getting along with people.

Wolf: What sort of complaints?

Attal: Eating someone's tomatoes without permission, running around… Stuff like that.

Wolf: That doesn't sound too serious. All a part of growing up, right?

Attal: Right, but I'm worried their race is playing a factor… And those barriers will take time to break down.

Attal: Oh, right. Is there anything I can help you with, Wolf?

Wolf: Actually, yeah. I'd like to hear the rest of your story.

Wolf: You said you didn't find that Eliksni.

Wolf: But these kids…

Attal: Yes. I searched around the back street many times, but I never saw him anywhere.

Attal: I even tried the Haven Archive to try and figure out what House he belonged to, but…nothing.

Attal: I had no more leads.

Attal: I thought I'd never meet him again…

Attal: …Until I received a distress signal near the Ice Field.

The scene shifts to the past. Attal is just entering the Jiangshi Metro Ice Field.

Attal: Are we close to the distress signal's source?

Swift: Yes, it's coming from just up ahead.

Attal approaches a small group of Jiangshi Metro guerrillas.

Sareer: Ugh, I'm telling you, this SOS isn't doing us any good.

Sareer: How about we just head there ourselves?

Carney: Just the two of us? Are you out of your mind?

Sareer: But it's a Skiff! How long do you really think they can hold out?

Attal: Hello. Are you the ones who sent the distress signal?

Sareer: A Lightbearer…! We're in luck! Please, help us! But, um… I don't have much Glimmer.

Sareer: Can we pay you once we…

Attal: Oh, compensation won't be necessary. Tell me about your companions.

Sareer: Sure.

Sareer: Those of us responsible for watching the Icy Lake—that's the two of us and three others—agreed to meet here after our patrol, but they never showed up.

Sareer: We thought they might've just gotten held up, but then we saw a Skiff flying toward the Icy Lake!

Sareer: They don't have much in the way of ammo, supplies, or numbers, so…

Attal: Don't worry, I'll go help them. You guys can stay here and make sure no one tries to stop us.

Attal: That way, we can save them as soon as possible while preventing any further accidents. What do you think?

Sareer: That's fine by us. We'll clear you an evacuation route!

Fallen begin to surround their location.

Sareer: Don't worry. Leave the monsters to us!

Attal: *sighs* "Monsters"…

Attal: I hope they aren't hostile. If they are, I'll lay down my weapons—just like with that one Eliksni I met last time.

Swift: I doubt they'll share the same sentiments, but…

Swift: Keep at it regardless, my lady. You'll always have my support.

Attal makes it to the trapped guerrillas, where the Skiff is dropping off hostile Fallen forces.

Bakam: …Just leave me and run, or you'll die here too!

Zawa: No! We stick together!

Attal heals an injured guerrilla.

Bakam: Am I…healing?

Bakam: Such warmth…marvelous…

Attal: Hang in there! You'll make it back to the Station Camp—all of you!

Attal: Leave these…enemies to me.

Attal defends the guerrillas, but more Fallen drop from the Skiff.

Attal: They have reinforcements! Retreat and rendezvous at the Station!

Zawa: Okay!

Swift: Look out! An unidentified combatant's joining the fight from the east.

Attal: That…that Eliksni's helping us!

Swift: I think it's the one we met at the warehouse.

After the final enemy is defeated, the unknown Eliksni goes to the remains of a downed Servitor.

Attal: Phew… It's finally over. Let's check on that Eliksni.

Before Attal can approach him, the Eliksni runs off.

Attal: Ah… W-wait!

Swift: Hmm, this is Ether… He may have taken something from a destroyed Servitor.

Swift: Let's follow the trail and see if we can find him.

Swift: He must have joined the fight to get the Ether from that Servitor.

Attal: So he's been living off scraps.

Swift: He and those orphaned hatchlings both, no doubt.

The Ether trail leads them to the Old Warehouse. The adult Eliksni is standing out in the open near the water with two Eliksni children with him. As soon as Attal comes within sight, the children scurry back to hide by a dilapidated structure.[Note 1]

Attal: …So these are Eliksni kids…

Attal: I've never seen them before…

Attal begins to speak with the adult Eliksni at a distance.

Attal: Umm… Hello again. I mean no harm following you like this, I just…

Survivor: I…trust.

Attal: …Pardon? You…speak human language?

Survivor: Li-ttle. Understand.

Attal: S-Swift! He can communicate with us!

Attal: I'm so glad I tried using words instead of weapons last time. It wasn't all for nothing!

Swift: I couldn't be more happy for you, my lady. Let's keep talking to him.

Attal: Right, we shouldn't just leave him hanging!

Survivor: Is…okay.

Attal: So these children…

Attal: They're the last members of your House?

Survivor: Chil-dren, hope…pro-tect.

Attal: Well… There's a human city called Haven. Some friendly Eliksni live there.

Attal: Maybe you can go there and live peacefully.

Survivor: N-no, Servitor…need…own… Our hope…

Attal: Hmm… Do you want a Servitor? Is it your hope?

Survivor: Chil-dren, Ether, need… Servitor, fix…you…help, can?

Attal: Uh… You want me to fix the Servitor?

Survivor: Fight, I…hard…

Attal: I…

Swift: Attal, we can't communicate effectively just yet.

Swift: Perhaps we should learn a bit more before deciding whether to aid them.

Attal: But he's friendly, and those kids… I want to help.

Attal: At least let me try, Swift.

Attal: It's a cruel world out there, but someone has to take the first step towards kindness.

Attal: And I'm willing to be that person.

Swift: The Eliksni have entirely different morals and values. The risk is too high.

Attal: I know. But I'm ready to face the consequences, and…

Attal: No matter what, I at least need to try. I don't want to regret not making an effort.

Swift: …Alright. You have my support.

Attal: I knew you'd see things my way, Gramps!

Attal: Kind Eliksni Gentleman, I'd like to help you.

Attal: But you have to promise that you won't hurt any humans, okay?

Survivor: We, no kill.

Attal: Phew… So we have a deal. But first, I have to escort some friends to safety.

Attal: I'll come back later, okay?

Survivor: Yes.

Off to the side, a third Eliksni child places a beach ball on the ground near Attal before backing away.

Swift: Attal, here.

Attal: This ball…

Survivor: Toy… Gift, you.

Attal: Does this child want to give me the toy?

Attal: …

Attal kneels as she talks to the child.

Attal: Thank you. I like your gift very much!

Attal: But as an adult, I could never take away a child's toy!

Attal: Keep it with you. I'll bring you some more next time.

Attal: Bye-bye, mon petit!

Attal speaks with Swift as she walks away.

Attal: …Swift, I can't not help these kids.

Attal: I was hesitant before, but now…

Attal: I want these kids to survive.

Swift: Then make it happen, Attal dear. You know I'm always on your side.

Attal: Alright!

Notes[edit]

  1. ^ If the player tries to approach the children, an invisible barrier blocks the path. Swift also says:
Swift: Now's not the time to approach them.
