Transcript[edit]

"And my vanquisher will read that book, seeking the weapon, and they will come to understand me, where I have been and where I was going."
The following is a verbatim transcription of an official document for archival reasons. As the original content is transcribed word-for-word, any possible discrepancies and/or errors are included.
Wolf receives a series of messages from Skorri.

Skorri: Hey there, Wolf. The great Lord Felwinter—you know, of Felwinter Peak fame—and his tech officer are at Haven's Archives.

Wolf: Isn't that in Old Russia? That's pretty far from here.

Wolf: What would Lord Felwinter come all this way for?

Skorri: Oh, who knows. Probably showing off his latest invention?

Skorri: The guy's a bit of a tech nut. Frankly, nobody among the Iron Lords comes anywhere close to his level of enthusiasm.

Skorri: Here I thought he'd be holed up in his lab…

Skorri: Radegast wants to avoid this meeting, so he thinks he can send me instead. Unfortunately for him, I refuse.

Wolf: Uh… Why doesn't he want to go?

Skorri: Best not to get too curious about your superiors' interpersonal dealings, dear.

Skorri: Anyway, I need someone who can welcome him.

Wolf: Alright, I'll go.

Wolf heads to the archives and up to the second floor. There, Helhest is standing next to a table that has a projection of Felwinter coming from it.

Unfamiliar Exo: The envoy you're looking for is here.

Unfamiliar Exo: I told you Radegast wouldn't come.

Unfamiliar Lightbearer: Hello, Wolf. This is Lord Felwinter, and I'm Helhest. We're here from Felwinter Peak.

Helhest: I'm primarily responsible for the comms networks covering the Iron Lords' territories.

Helhest: A few days ago, I picked up a strange radio signal unlike those from any known human or even Fallen device.

Helhest: Even with Felwinter Peak's considerable technology, we were unable to decipher the signal's contents.

Helhest: It was only by chance that we made out a series of coordinates.

Felwinter: It was you who figured it out, not "we." I don't need such consolation.

Felwinter: After we've fully decrypted the signal, I want its encryption methods for my own—once you've completed your investigation, that is.

Helhest: Repeated calculations have shown the coordinates to be somewhere between Haven and the Old City, but the signal's range is too large. I can't look into this on my own.

Helhest: Wolf, I'd like to ask you to help investigate one area, then share your findings with me.

Helhest: Afterwards, we'll rendezvous here.

Wolf: Sure…but, uh, is your boss going to come with us?

Felwinter: Helhest can take care of his on her own. I have other matters to attend to.

Felwinter: (cuts out)

Felwinter's transmission ends.

Wolf: …No offense, but is he always like this?

Helhest: Yes. He's very busy—busier than any of us, in fact.

Wolf: No, I meant… Forget it. Let's head out.

Helhest arrives at the Old City.

Grom: The signal's source is just up ahead. Follow me.

They travel deeper into the city, defeating Fallen forces on the way.

Grom: The Fallen have completely taken over this place.

After clearing out a group of Fallen, Helhest and Grom investigate a black, egg-shaped pod they had been surrounding.

Grom: This looks like an…escape pod?

Helhest: I've never seen this model, though. It's not from Earth.

Helhest: Can you scan its black box?

Grom: Let's see… I found the log from before it crashed.

Grom: You were right! Its origin point was somewhere in the Asteroid Belt.

Grom: Its mothership belongs to an Awoken organization.

Grom: When they flew into Earth's orbit, they placed an unknown device into the escape pod, then ejected it.

Helhest: An unknown device? But the pod is empty.

Helhest: Can you find out what it was?

Grom: No, that information is protected. And I can't break through the security layer.

Helhest: …Awoken from beyond Earth, and a highly classified device. That's quite unsettling.

Helhest: See if you can find any other clues around here, Grom. We need to find whatever they loaded in there.

Grom finds a trail of footprints.

Grom: Helhest, look! Fallen footprints. They may have taken the device away.

Grom: The footprints lead deeper into the Old City. Follow me.

Fighting off more Fallen on the way, the trail leads them to the city's library.

Grom: The signal's getting stronger! It's just up ahead!

Helhest goes up to the second floor. The signal is on the floor below, but the balcony to reach it is blocked by lasers.

Grom: Watch out for those red lasers!

Grom: The signal is right below. Let's go take a look.

Grom flies through a gap of the lasers and heads to its control panel next to door on the other end.

Grom: Give me a moment and I'll shut it down.

Grom: Cover me, Helhest!

From the balcony, Helhest defends Grom from Fallen trying to attack her. The lasers die shortly after.

Grom: It's off!

Helhest joins Grom by the door. A strange, pyramid shaped device sits directly in front of it.

Helhest: This looks like a…projector.

Helhest: …I can't turn it on.

Grom: Let me try.

As Grom tries to activate it, more Fallen arrive.

Grom: Look out, Helhest. We've got enemies behind us.

After defeating them, Helhest asks Grom about the device.

Helhest: Well?

Grom: Nothing. I tried rebooting it, but it still won't activate. The hardware's damaged.

Wolf speaks over the comms.

Wolf: Any progress on your end, Helhest?

Helhest: We found the device emitting the signal, but we'll need to inspect its structure further.

Wolf: How about taking it to Donovan over at the Armory? He's always the one who helps us with any tech problems.

Helhest enters Donovan's office. Himself and Wolf are already there.

Wolf: So this is the machine you found?

Wolf: Alright, let's see a master at work.

Helhest places the projector onto Donovan's desk.

Donovan-17: Hah! Interesting. I've never seen Awoken technology like this.

Donovan-17: Look at it—exquisitely made, sleek, novel… What buffoon would smash it like this?

Helhest: It was loaded into a launched escape pod and took a little damage on the landing.

Donovan-17: A little?

Helhest: A little.

Donovan-17: Sure, and a nuclear detonation is just a little bang, right?

Donovan-17: I swear, you Lightbearers are purposely obtuse sometimes.

Donovan-17: Let me see… I could force it to start up, but only forcibly.

The devices activates and opens. A small projection of a young Awoken girl with white hair appears.

Grom: It's a…a girl?!

Donovan-17: This is no normal projector. It has records of biological consciousness inside, making it more of a…a mind laid out on a petri dish, then grafted onto a supercomputer.

Donovan-17: You know what that implies, don't you? This girl should be a living person—or at least, has the mind of one.

Helhest: Should be?

Donovan-17: Should be.

Donovan-17: Of course, the crash has rendered it a bunch of damaged parts now. A shame.

Donovan-17: This was a creation nearing the pinnacle of Golden Age technology!

Helhest: But you can fix it, right?

Donovan-17: One thing at a time, Miss. I mean, I don't even know your name! What obligation do I have to help you?

Helhest: Oh, I'm not asking if you'll fix it for me. What I mean is, are you able to?

Donovan-17: Of course! I… Are you doubting me?

Wolf: …Come on, she doesn't mean it that way.

Donovan-17: Of course she does!

Donovan-17: Alright, Fine! Very well, I accept. Now, if you don't mind, please leave.

Donovan-17: I need to get to work! I'll contact you once I've made progress.
