Transcript[edit]

Estela explores a structure within a Cabal drilling zone.

Your Relic: You are close—very close.

Your Relic: The traces of her wish-magic lead further into the depths.

Your Relic: Scents of dust, death, and something scorched permeate the air.

Your Relic: It's quiet. Yet this silence ought not to exist here.

Your Relic: A sense of horror creeping up your spine.

Your Relic: A terror is like the frigid winds of winter, making the fine hair on your back stand on end.

Your Relic: This is not the first Ahamkara you've hunted, yet this one feels more dangerous, more sinister.

A group of Cabal are fighting against one another.

Your Relic: Why do these Cabal engage in mutual slaughter?

Your Relic: They may be fools, but have you ever seen them so frenzied?

Your Relic: The answer is right there in the forefront of your mind.

Your Relic: Wishes.

Estela travels through a hall that had been destroyed. Fire covers some of the area.

Your Relic: Decaying. Chaotic. Lifeless.

Your Relic: What manner of calamity can cause such devastation?

A sourceless voice begins to whisper to Estela once she is passed it. Flashes of a cabin in flames block her vision.

Mysterious Voice: *incomprehensible whispers* [She is here. Victim. Perpetrator.]

The view of the cabin stays in Estela's vision.

Estela: What?

Your Relic: What is it?

The cabin fades away.

Your Relic: But why here, and why now?

Your Relic: That house… You remember—

Estela: Stop it.

Estela comes across more Cabal fighting one another. She defeats them, and a small part of an Ahamkara spine appears.

Estela: What…what is that?

Your Relic: You've seen it before. It, too, is part of her.

Mysterious Voice: *incomprehensible whispers* [Warrior. Alone. Visitor.]

Estela destroys the bone with Solar Light.

Estela: Shut up.

Your Relic: Your prey's power grows thicker, more potent.

Your Relic: Are you tempted to venture further in?

A large drill looms in the distance. Estela uses a launcher to be sent into the mine beneath it. A trail of energy leads her deeper into the mine.

Your Relic: An aura of decay seeps out from the pitch-black hole.

Your Relic: Beware the shadows.

Cabal float unconscious in the air.

Your Relic: They are still dreaming.

Your Relic: It is not time for them to wake—at least, not yet.

A larger amount of Cabal float in a spiral farther in. An Ahamkara spine lines the cavern around them.

Your Relic: The missing Cabal…

Your Relic: They muddle along aimlessly, as puppets on strings.

Estela sees the burning cabin flash in her vision again.

Mysterious Voice: Thirst…wish…fear…shadow…

Your Relic: Pain. It bores through your cranium. As though something stirs in your brain.

Cabal fall out of the spiral and begin attacking.

Estela: She's…she's trying to influence me.

Your Relic: But you will not fall here… At least, not right now.

Estela defeats the Cabal, and a ramp made of rock materializes, leading to an orb of energy. Holographic-like images of Cabal surrounding the orb appear as Estela gets closer.

Your Relic: One of the Cabal soldiers swore he'd heard a voice.

Your Relic: "What do you desire, o wisher mine?"

Your Relic: He replied, "I want to return to the battlefield"

The Cabal images vanish.

Estela: This thing… It needs to be destroyed.

Estela attempts to destroy the orb with Solar energy, but it is rebuffed.

Estela: What?

Mysterious Voice: Oh, it is you… I know you.

Mysterious Voice: You are the one who ruined the surprise I'd left for that Lightbearer, are you not?

Estela grips her head.

Mysterious Voice: Tsk tsk. That was to be a most delicious feast…

A light blocks Estela's vision, and when it fades, she's standing in a dark, empty void other than snow falling.

Estela: Stop with the tricks! Who are you?

Mysterious Voice: If what you seek is a name…then very well. You may call me Zelpachad.

Estela: What is this place?

A path through snow covered rocks materializes in front of Estela.

Zelpachad: …Why would you ask a question like that?

Zelpachad: You remember, do you not? You once walked a path just like this.

The path becomes surrounded by evergreen trees, some dead and some alive.

Zelpachad: With gusts of wind blowing through the trees, the air carrying the scent of mud following the rainfall…

Large rocks block both sides of the path. A woman with a sniper slung across her back jumps down from them when Estela tries to pass.

Stranger: Oh—! I'm sorry, did I scare you?

She waves to Estela.

Estela: …

Estela: Don't… Don't involve her in all this.

Zelpachad: Why not? Don't you miss her?

Zelpachad: Her face, her voice, her name…

Estela: Don't say it—

Zelpachad: …Elathi.

Stranger: Do you need help?

Stranger: Kids like you aren't exactly a common sight out here in the wilderness, and you…you look troubled.

Stranger: Are you lost?

Zelpachad: Why do you reject her?

Zelpachad: Does the guilt still plague your heart?

Zelpachad: Is it because you know she is nothing more than a corpse now, resting eternally beneath the earth?

Zelpachad: All because this kind, generous woman did one wrong thing… Speaking with you, the girl she found so pitiful.

Estela: …

Stranger: Not much of a talker, huh?

Stranger: Well, being wary of strangers isn't a bad thing.

Stranger: But don't worry, I won't hurt you.

Elathi: My name is Elathi.

Elathi: Let's go. My house isn't far from here.

Elathi: Best if you stay close, though. I've got lots of traps around here.

Elathi leads Estela down the path. A cabin with mountains behind it comes into view.

Estela: No! None of this is real!

Everything fades back into the void.

Estela: Stop using my memories!

Zelpachad: Why are you so angry with me?

Zelpachad: I'm merely giving you an opportunity.

A broken path of floating snow-covered rocks and furniture appears, leading to an exposed part of the cabin's interior.

Zelpachad: Merely helping you recall those…unforgettable memories.

Elathi and a younger version of Estela materializes within it. Elathi stands against a table while Estela sits by a small fire.

Elathi: So, where are you headed next?

Young Estela: I…I don't know.

Elathi: Well, do you have any experience hiking up a snowy mountain?

Young Estela: What?

Elathi: If you've got nowhere to go, I'm heading up the mountain to hunt soon.

Elathi: You can join me if you want.

Elathi and the younger Estela disappear. Another broken path leads to an intact cabin. They are now standing by the stump of a tree, with Elathi showing her a compound bow.

Young Estela: So pretty…

Elathi: One of my finer pieces of work, if I do say so myself.

Elathi: I tried lots of different strings before settling on this one.

Elathi gives the younger Estela the bow.

Elathi: And now, she's yours.

They disappear again. Another broken path leads to a scene of them standing a short distance away from a buck. Elathi is teaching her how to shoot the bow.

Elathi: Don't be nervous. Take a deep breath…

Elathi: Don't look at me, and don't look at your bow.

Elathi: Focus all your attention on that deer.

The younger Estela shoots and misses with a sigh.

Young Estela: …

Elathi: Haha, I told you it wouldn't be easy, didn't I?

The void returns. Estela sounds on the verge of tears.

Estela: Elathi…

Zelpachad: Oh, Elathi.

A snowy path surrounded by stone appears, trailing up a mountain.

Zelpachad: You crested this peak many a time, following on her hunting trips.

Zelpachad: She's waiting for you now, just as she always had.

A Fallen Marksman is standing unaware a short distance away from Elathi.

Elathi: Shh… It hasn't spotted us.

Estela defeats it.

Elathi: Nice shot!

They continue to travel along the path.

Elathi: They're camped in the valley up ahead.

Elathi: If we don't intervene, we'll lose our entire hunting grounds to the Fallen.

Estela: …What?

Estela: No! No!

Estela: Not that day!

They arrive to the Fallen's camp on a cliff above them. Elathi stays up on the cliff with her sniper.

Elathi: Be careful. I'll cover you.

Elathi: This should be the last one.

After all of the Fallen are defeated, Elathi and Estela speak in the middle of the campground.

Elathi: What is it? Are you hurt?

Elathi: *sighs*

Elathi: At least you're all right.

Elathi: Maybe you should take a break for a bit.

Elathi: I know, I haven't checked the traps I laid out yesterday. We probably caught something.

Elathi: How about you check them for me when we get back?

Estela: No.

Estela: Stop it… Don't say anything more.

Elathi: Hey, it's just a little errand.

Elathi: Please? Just this once?

Elathi: It will give me time to prepare the—uh, dinner!

Zelpachad: Traps, prey, dinner… Such clumsy excuses.

Zelpachad: But you know full well why she wants to separate from you.

Darkness creeps around Estela's vision.

Zelpachad: She's preparing you a little…surprise.

Estela: Stop!

Estela: Why this day?!

Estela: Why do you want to show me this?!

The void returns as Zelpachad laughs.

Zelpachad: No, Estela.

Zelpachad: It wasn't I who chose this day—it was you.

Zelpachad: I asked you but one question: "What do you fear the most?"

Zelpachad: This is the answer you gave me.

Another snowy rock path appears, but flames and the Fallen are also on it. A cabin can be seen in the distance also in flames.

Estela: No… No it isn't.

Estela fights her way to the cabin.

Zelpachad: The two of you made a grave mistake. Those Fallen were merely an advance team.

Zelpachad: Their Ketch would land at sunset.

Zelpachad: You hurried back…only to see your lovely little home on the hill engulfed in flames.

Zelpachad: Such a terrifying blaze…

Zelpachad: No mortal could make it out alive.

Estela: G-get out of my house! Now!

Estela enters the cabin. Flames are all around the interior. In the back, support beams had fallen. Elathi lies dead under them with a small figure of a carved squirrel nearby.

Zelpachad: That's right. She's dead.

Zelpachad: But your heart is filled not just with sorrow, but also regret and fear. Why is that?

Zelpachad: You know the answer, don't you?

Zelpachad: You made a wish.

Zelpachad: And ever since, you've brought misfortune upon everyone who gets close to you.

Zelpachad: You destroy everything around you, everything you hold dear.

Memories of Elathi and Estela when she was younger are seen as Zelpachad speaks.

Zelpachad: Why did you want to speak with her?

Zelpachad: Why did you accept her invitation?

Zelpachad: Why did you agree to live with her?

Estela picks up the wooden squirrel that had been meant as a birthday present for herself. She looks at the fire.

Zelpachad: End it. End it once and for all.

Zelpachad: Doing so will protect the innocent.

Estela looks back down at the squirrel, but she now wields a long, magic dagger in her hand.

Zelpachad: You wouldn't want them to suffer the same fate, now would you?

Estela holds the dagger with both hands and points the tip of it to her chest. She falls to her knees as the dagger is lowered before holding the tip back up to her chest. Her Relic begins to glow.

Estela: No… Not yet.

Estela stands and holds the dagger at her side.

Estela: I still haven't found the Ahamkara who granted my wish. I will find her…

Estela: I must find her.

Estela: So until I kill her…I will survive.

Estela breaks the dagger and lets the pieces fall. They turn into the orb of energy she had tried to destroy but couldn't. The cabin disappears, leaving only her and the orb in a void with ground made of dark water.

Zelpachad: So why? Why do you refuse?

Zelpachad: Could it be you still don't understand that as long as you walk this earth, you will bring innumerable calamities? Innumerable deaths?

The orb flies farther away.

Zelpachad: It is not my intention to be crude.

Zelpachad: You must understand, I only want to help you.

An Ahamkara breaches out of the water and eats the orb.

Zelpachad: You want to end this horrifying curse, and I've presented to you the perfect solution: your death.

Estela stands on a small piece of land surrounded by the water. Zelpachad's head looms above the water, the rest of her body obscured by black fog.

Estela: No. The only one dying here is you.

Estela defends herself against summoned Fallen forces while Zelpachad also attacks her.

Zelpachad: Accept it. You are so tired, so weary…

The land beneath Estela disappears, and Zelpachad submerges herself under the water. Estela is constantly taking damage.

Zelpachad: You want nothing more than for this to end.

Your Relic: Is that what you truly believe?

Estela: Bréc?

A small light appears in the distance.

Your Relic: Follow the light.

Estela goes to the light, stopping the damage and clearing a small area of fog. Zelpachad attacks from the edge.

Zelpachad: You poor little thing.

Zelpachad: You think hiding here will do anything?

Zelpachad summons more Fallen and hides beneath the water.

Zelpachad: Why would you ever want to wake up?

Zelpachad: At least here, you won't be able to harm anyone.

Zelpachad: *laughs*

Zelpachad resurfaces once Estela defeats all of the Fallen.

Zelpachad: Cease this struggling! You wish for an end!

Estela: No!

Zelpachad: You think you're fighting me?

Zelpachad: I'm afraid that couldn't be further from the truth, dear.

Zelpachad: I am but a shadow: the fear deep within your heart.

Zelpachad: And the truth of this world is… No one can conquer their own fear.

Zelpachad recovers from all of the damage Estela had inflicted and attacks with an endless breath attack.

Your Relic: No. Your story does not end here.

Your Relic: You will defeat her, o wielder mine.

Estela activates her Super, Violent Reverie, summoning a stationary, Ahamkara-like creature that attacks Zelpachad with its own breath attack.

Zelpachad: Your Light—no, this isn't just Light…

Zelpachad and the orb fall onto the water.

Zelpachad: So this is your secret weapon?

Zelpachad: *laughs*

Zelpachad: You thought you truly killed me?

Part of the orb shatters off of it. Zelpachad raises her head back into the air.

Zelpachad: This is but the beginning. I'll have a little surprise when next we meet.

Zelpachad disappears into the fog.

Zelpachad: Do not rest on your laurels, o huntress mine.

The dreamscape breaks, and Estela floats among the spiral of Cabal in the area she'd first seen the orb. The Cabal disappear as Estela floats to the ground.

Your Relic: At last, you wake.

Your Relic: Unfortunately, not everyone has the power within them to wake from her nightmares.

Your Relic: Zelpachad is not here. Or rather, the part of her you can kill is not here.

Your Relic: This is nothing more than her slough.

Your Relic: Your hunt continues.

Estela: Tell me where she is so I can end her.

Estela destroys what remains of the orb.

Estela: Where is she?

Your Relic: On the Red Sea's seabed… On the edge of a rocky cliff…

Your Relic: Within a child's eyes…

Your Relic: Her hunger is bottomless.

Your Relic: And one of the most succulent morsels this world has to offer…is a wish borne of love.

Estela: I'll stop her. Then, I'll kill her.

Your Relic: That you will, o wielder mine.
