"And my vanquisher will read that book, seeking the weapon, and they will come to understand me, where I have been and where I was going."

Gwynn heads to the bonfire and has a conversation with Attal and two militia soldiers. Crowther is out and hovering by Gwynn.

Militia: On behalf of us all, I'd like to thank you for rescuing us. We wouldn't have made it out alive without you.

Attal: We're just doing the right thing. Haven welcomes anyone with good intentions. You'll be safe here.

Militia: You've already done so much for us, but could we ask for one more favor?

Militia: As Lightbearers, you're the only ones who can help.

Gwynn: You want us to save your captain.

Gwynn: You know the chances of him still being alive are slim, right?

Attal: (to Gwynn) Arrête!

Attal: Don't worry. Lightbearers don't die easily.

Gwynn: I have some questions.

Militia: As long as you're willing to save our captain, I'll tell you anything!

Gwynn (option): You're from Britain?

Militia: Yes. Our earliest members were from the British Isles and followed the captain out when the Fallen invaded.

Militia: Some of the others joined while we were roaming the mainland.

Attal: Sounds like there's a lot of you. And you've traveled such a long way!

Militia: Not necessarily. Our members are always changing.

Militia: Sometimes people will leave when we pass through settlements, and naturally, new ones join along the way.

Militia: The captain doesn't like staying in one place for too long, though.

Militia: We stopped here in Jiangshi just to stock up on supplies.

Militia Soldier: I still can't believe our camp was attacked by the Fallen…

Gwynn (option): That captain of yours. What's his name?

Militia: He's not one to talk about his past.

Militia: We only know him as Balder, though most of the time we just call him Captain.

Militia: Don't know much more about it, I'm afraid.

Militia: We met him in a collapsed subway tunnel.

Militia: I remember it vividly—it was dark, and the Fallen were reveling in our fear, but he lit up the place with that sword of his and held them back.

Gwynn (option): Tell me about his sword.

Militia: Don't know much I'm afraid. He's always had it with him as long as I've known.

Militia Soldier: He took out all the Fallen we encountered along the way with that sword.

Militia Soldier: If he hadn't put up that barrier to protect us, he could've used it to defend himself…

Gwynn (option): His Ghost has never spoken?

Militia Soldier: I don't know what exactly happened, but it looks damaged.

Militia Soldier: Poor lad doesn't respond to anything, so we thought it was just a floating machine or something.

Militia Soldier: It doesn't seem as…intelligent as yours.

Crowther: Not many Ghosts are, mate.

Gwynn (option): I have no further questions.

Attal: Don't worry, we'll find him!

Militia: We'll head back and wait for the good news. Thanks again for your help.

After the militia soldiers walk away, Gwynn and Attal discuss the situation.

Attal: That Captain Balder sounds like a good man. And we can't let someone like that die to the Fallen, can we?

Gwynn: Death is inevitable.

Attal: Gwynn!

Crowther: What do we even get out of this besides trouble? Welp, I'm bored. See ya!

Crowther floats away as they finish up their conversation.

Gwynn: You see good in everyone, Attal. Not everything is worth saving. But for now, I will withhold my judgment.

Attal: But—

Crowther heads over to the bonfire's exit and overhears the two militia soldiers speaking to one another.

Militia Soldier (1): Thank goodness that kind lady agreed to help.

Militia Soldier (2): Yeah, but that other Lightbearer… She gives me the creeps.

Militia Soldier (1): Did you ever hear that story about the Lightbearer killer in Britain?

Crowther: What story?

Crowther asks as he goes up to them.

Militia Soldier (1): You don't know? After the Fallen invaded, Britain's Lightbearers were divided into two alliances.

Militia Soldier (1): One held London, and the other a Welsh fortress.

Militia Soldier (1): The Warlord in Wales was a powerful tyrant. Before long, he had the entire region under his rule.

Militia Soldier (1): Until one day, his castle turned into a bloodbath. The first person to enter saw the place covered in bodies…and the Warlord, hanging above his throne.

Militia Soldier (1): From that day onward, there would be news of someone murdering Warlords from time to time.

Militia Soldier (1): But nobody ever found out who the killer is.

Militia Soldier (2): There's a similar story in Old Europe. They say the fatal wounds were delivered by a long, thin bade.

Militia Soldier (2): Reminds me of that Lightbearer's scythe. Lethal and precise.

Crowther: What are you all on about? The boss is no serial killer. She just hunts down scumbags…and anyone who pisses her off.

Gwynn appears nearby.

Gwynn: Let's go, Crowther.

Crowther: You've got it, Boss.

As Crowther leaves, the militia soldiers share a look.
