  • VII of the Nine both begins and enacts its plan, depending on when in time one is witnessing it
  • The idea of conjoining into one massive time-spanning gestalt mind akin to the Witness and their predecessors, the True Vex, begins to be spoken of amongst the free Vex of the Nessian Schism and Tharsis Reformation
  • The spacetime wound above Uranus becomes a permanent scar on reality into the Vex Network
  • The Sol System begins to become unbalanced
  • The Numeric Usurper is awakened from its coma and begins recruiting lost souls

The War of the Pits was/is the war between the Hive god, Crota, Son of Oryx and his swarm, against the Vex and a mysterious Mind at the center of the war known as the Keter-Crown.

Prelude[edit]

"My son, this is your punishment. Come home glorious, or die forgotten!”"
— Oryx, the Taken King

Shortly after the Vex attempted to invade the High War, Oryx would cast Crota out of his High War and all of the Hive pantheon, with only his own fledgling and matronless brood to accompany his war.

Crota would quickly elect a elect an impromptu Brood Queen, Dauryx, Crota's Beloved, who would begin to bolster her master's swarm as skirmishes with the Vex began.

Overview[edit]

The Sound Heard Across Time[edit]

Early on in the war, Crota and The Father of All Minds would clash in a duel so destructive to the Vex Network, that it would strain and crack, shattering spacetime around the Network as the Vex's technology failed to compensate for the sheer power Crota wielded. In a vital strike, the pair would exchange blows so utterly destructive, that the Network would splinter like a tree struck by lightning, causing a massive tear to form over a blue gas giant from a far off solar system. Though, this was part of Hezen's plan, as it had made a deal with a mysterious entity associated with that planet, known as VII of the Nine, who also assisted in dragging the fracture of the fight forward in time to the current modern age.

The war raged over Uranus as inhabitants of the Sol System joined in the fight for varying reasons. From attempting to sway the fight in a path they'd find advantageous to the future they wished to create, to mere scavengers, to even those who simply enjoyed the chaos. While the part of the war that was focused entirely over Uranus lasted for a relatively short time, the War of the Pits truly spanned millennia to eons across the Vex Network and many galaxies, near and far, as Crota's brood and he himself grew in experience and power and Hezen continued to orchestrate its plan.

One Short Moment to Span Eternity[edit]

"When the God-Knight and our Keter-Crown clashed, it shattered the Network irreparably. This one nonzero moment, perfectly suspended in time above the gas giant, all of Time heard it, felt it, saw it. And now it is our very moment where we can decide the fate of this war. If done delicately enough."
— System-34, the Defiant Pattern

In the smallest of moments where Crota and Hezen clashed, most of the War of the Pit's events over Uranus took place. There, Vex and Hive frozen in time would bleed out and pour into the gas giant. Fragments of Hezen would assist the Forgotten Collective below, as would Crota's generals, leading them being Dauryx, Crota's Beloved and a pair of aspiring Knights, Phogoth, the Rage of Crota and Sardon, the Unproven.

Quickly, the Guardian would be alerted by Lodi of VII becoming very noisy and "active", where usually it is very quiet and often isn't even acknowledged it exists by the other Nine. Investigating, the Guardian would observe the massive spacetime wound just below Uranus's uppermost atmosphere. The Vanguard and its Coalition would respond in force, commencing war above Uranus with the Spawn of Crota Tombships and the various other factions that were drawn to the conflict, including Barant Imperium, Dire Taken, Pikers, Revenant Scorn, Lucent Brood, and the Black Fleet remnants led by the Psion Conclave.

The war would wage for months on Uranus, with the Guardian attempting to balance their battles between the Vex, the Spawn of Crota, and the fourth parties. During this time, a Hive Knight named Urzok, with the (discrete, as to not alert Urzok) help of the Guardian, would utterly devastate a Vex installation and gain a valuable Absorption Shield tech that would allow his Arc Absorption Shield to become nearly indestructible due to its ability to draw its durability from previous moments in time when it wasn't damaged. Urzok would then use this technology to kill the Dire Knight commander, Urzok, the Ever-Hateful, claiming such power was unworthy of whatever master his future Taken self served and his future self was a failure. He'd then vow to claw the Light from every Lightbearer whose scent he caught. Proceeding to then engage various Lightbearer Hive to hone his thirst.

Crota would also become aware of the Traveler's presence within the Sol System, noting Earth as its home and Luna as a good forward base for when it came time to engage the ancient enemy his father so viscously spoke of.

The Moment's End[edit]

Eventually, after a pivotal moment in time on Uranus, the clash between Hezen and Crota would resume, with Crota emerging the victor, but not without substantial injury to himself. Crota would pin Hezen down and, piece by piece, riven apart the Titan until nothing but the smallest pieces of its consciousness remained. He'd then scatter those pieces across time and space before returning to his Temple that was built below Luna in the distant past to heal, finally exiting the Vex Network millions of years after he was thrown in.

However, this moment was exactly what Hezen wanted. It wanted to be destroyed, it wanted to be torn to pieces and scattered across time and space. As now, a pair of spurned rogue Vex were being banished to the dark corners of time, and they'd use Hezen's death as a key to its goal: True Vex immortality. Infinite and unbreakable existence across spacetime.

It'd also be Hezen's death that'd awaken the Numeric Usurper from its stasis. It'd quickly familiarize itself with the solar system and the presence of the Nine. Refusing to allow them to have their way, the Usurper would begin to gather forces to hopefully subjugate and even weaponize the Nine.

Aftermath[edit]

Within Crota's new present, thousands of years ago before the events over Uranus, he would reach out via a shrine to his father, and Oryx would send an emissary, who would voice his pride in his son and welcome Crota back to the Hive. Though, unbeknownst to Crota, the killing of Hezen interfered with VII's plan, earning him and his swarm its ire. This ire would span all of time, resulting in it being the foremost Nine member who most often manipulated the many steps along the way across history in the Sol System that resulted in the Guardian killing Crota and decimating his swarm beyond repair. It'd even be petty enough to personally elect Crota as one of the Dare's Champions in Dares of Eternity and "gifting" him the knowledge of how to split himself into Aspects, so his death could forever serve as entertainment until nothing of him remains across the Paraverse. It'd then take action again once The Everlasting Echo resurrected Crota into Crota, the Shattered, advising the Everlasting Echo to take Crota to Essence, where Crota would be put to rest for good and the Everlasting Echo would lose its greatest champion and last hope for victory, being destroyed not long after.

System-34, despite all of his best efforts to divert fate, never could. With even its pillaging of the Vault of Glass and opening it to the Taken during the events of The Taken War only just serving to further Hezen's plans, would be expelled to a Nowhere space in time. But there, it'd find the largest remains of Hezen and with Laecheon, Templar of Time, who had lost its other half in the war, would together use Hezen's corpse and the nowhere space they resided in to build a timeless vault, a thing that would give Ixion and Laecheon an infinite and beyond amount of time to attempt to undo Hezen's actions. This would inadvertently complete Hezen's plan, as with the Vault of Glass created, all was in place for the Timestream to continue down the exact path Hezen desired, forever achieving true Vex immortality across time as no matter what happened to the Vault or the Vex, there was always a way for them to exist within the dark corners of time. No matter what corner was scoured, what timeline was erased, what moment was undone, that one moment of Crota shattering Hezen allowed the Vex to forevermore be irremovable from the Flower game.
