The Forgotten Collective is the Descendants Vex collective scattered across spacetime who seeks to secure immortality for the Vex so that even if they're ever successfully destroyed at some point in a future, they will always exist across time no matter what occurs.

History[edit]

The Forgotten Collective (also known as Sol Perpetual) has no true definite origin beyond the origin of its head mind, Hezen, the Father of All Minds, who was the lead mind of the Vex in the previous cycle of the Flower game. Tearing into this new one, it'd begin its plan anew. How the Vex became the Descendants is not known, but many Vex from across time have found their ways into being repurposed into the Descendants. Even defector Vex in the Sol Divisive have found their way back to the Descendants. Some chassis of them have been dated to be billions of years old, predating even the Sol System's forming, but many still then seem to be very recently reborn into a Nessian Schism chassis before returning to the Descendants.

According to Osiris's findings within the Infinite Forest, the most probable beginning of the Descendants is eons in the future after the True Vex have been either destroyed or rendered irrelevant and the free minded Vex, nearing a similar fate as well, decide to follow in the footsteps of the Witness and combine their minds once more into a Vex Network. This would both be the revival and first creation of the True Vex. Which would then, using the Vault of Glass under the command of Ixion, Time's Conflux (now called Atheon), scatter across time and reconnect with Hezen in a pivotal moment in the past, completing a paradoxical loop that would forever grant Vex immortality across all of time.

Osiris believes this "pivotal moment" is coming soon and their presence above and on Uranus, along with and the direct involvement of VII of the Nine across potentially billions of years of preparation is a sign.

Gameplay[edit]

Overview[edit]

The Forgotten Collective's units can spawn with ice pieces on them, serving as breakable armor and cannot be dealt critical damage to. The appearance of this armor is randomized for every unit every time it spawns in, making each encounter with the Forgotten Collective a little unique even on repeat playthroughs. They can also have details showcasing origins from other collectives like dead frozen foliage from the Sol Divisive, corroded and dulled body parts from the Precursors or Nessian Schism, and more. The Forgotten Collective also does not possess Fanatics, Seekers, or Supplicants.

Unique Troops[edit]

  • Empusa - Empusas can rapidly transform into different Vex models to adapt to what situation it is in, but sharing a Minotaur-level health bar regardless of form taken.
  • Vrykolaka - A 'repaired' Fanatic unit with corrupted code. Vrykolaka's serve as melee units, rapidly warp walking (or in their case warp running) toward their foe to use their Void-empowered limbs to deal damage.
  • Centaur - Quadruped units with a charge-based weapon that fires explosive Void projectiles that cause suppression to any too close to the arrow upon detonation.
  • Satyr - Fast moving and prone to warp-walking. Satyrs are equipped with shields and specialize in applying status effects on their foes. They're able to apply scorch, freeze, severed, volatile, and jolted. The element a specific Satyr specializes in is determined by its eye and weaponized hand's color.
  • Siren - A rare Vex construct akin to an Oracle that suppresses all abilities and Absorption Shields.
    • Scylla - A Siren sub-type that instead of suppressing, deals damage. It then heals nearby ally Vex for any damage it deals.
  • Dionysus - Dionysuses are other enemies that have been partially transformed into a Vex. These include Psions, Vandals, Chieftains, Wizards, Subjugators
    • Zagreus - A Ghost subtype of Dionysuses that can inhabit Dionysuses and buff their abilities. They also can rebuild Vex frames if not inhabiting a Dionysus. If there is no Dionysus around or for whatever reason it decides to not or cannot rebuild its previous host, it can corrupt any of the applicable foes to create a new one.
  • Cthonic - A general-rank enemy akin to a Tormentor, Subjugator, or Lightbearer Knight, Acolyte, or Wizard. Cthonics look like tall mixtures between Psions, Lubraeans, and Minotaurs with Hydra-like tails. Cthonics are capable of giving ice armor to allies, summoning Scyllas and Zagreuses, corrupting foes into Dionysuses, creating large Radiolaria pools, and generally must be dealt with quickly before the entire area becomes Vex corrupted. Even upon death, Cthonics are dangerous as they begin a lengthy self destruct protocol that, upon completion, will annihilate all enemies who are not behind cover in a huge radius.

Trivia and Behind the Scenes[edit]

  • The Forgotten Collective is current my oldest Destiny idea I still have to this day, being almost eight years old at the time of writing (10/16/2026).
  • Originally, the Forgotten Collective was to be a Precursors offshoot, but after the Arrival of the Black Fleet, the War against the Witness, and the Nessian Schism didn't take advantage of being perfect times for the Vex to become the Descendants, I decided to do it myself.
