The Shooting Range is a location within the Tower where Guardians can test their weaponry and abilities without the pressure of activities or hostile enemies. It also serves as where Ada-1 hosts Arms Week.

Gameplay[edit]

The shooting range contains nearly everything a Guardian could ever need to test their loadouts. To the left there is a Prismatic leak that allows for the charging of transcendence and a laser that deals damage to allow the player to test resistance and perks that only occur on death or when damaged. On the right there is the vendor spot where Ada-1 hosts Arms Week and a lounge for fellow Guardians to relax while their teammate(s) practice with an endlessly usable Rally Banner in the middle of the lounge, though it takes ten seconds before it can be used again.

The main focus of the shooting range is that of the range itself which by default has infinite health Target Frames. Though these can easily be swapped out via the enemy selector at the left side of the shooting range, along with the behavior of the enemies via the behavior selector on the ride side of the shooting range. On the behavior selector; the left button resets the stats the range tracks like damage done, the middle button activates the enemy AI and they begin to function like regular enemies, and the right button removes all active enemies from the shooting range. Though it does not remove any potentially defeated enemies' remains.

There are also several consoles in the front of the range that allows for several extra customization options. From left to right you can toggle a distance marker above whichever enemy you aim at, summon a single combatant, summon a wave of combatants, and summon a Champion. Though you cannot control which of the two champions per faction is summoned.

The shooting range is also able to be customized with modifiers and difficulty options from orbit before loading in like activities within the Portal.

Trivia[edit]

  • The area of shooting range bears a striking resemblance to the location that the final encounter in Zero Hour.
  • You cannot select a new location from the Shooting Range and must manually return to orbit. This is due to the shooting range being considered an activity and not a social space. It is unknown if this is intentional or not.
  • There are small lights at the bottom of the front and on the poles at the back of the range that turn red once a player steps on the platform in front of the range.
  • C.A.R.L., Dummy of Practice is the only named enemy within the shooting range.
  • The health of the Ultras within the shooting range are comparable to various Raid bosses.
  • The shooting range was not the first location where players could test their loadouts on enemies in peace. The first was the Tribute Hall that was added in Season of Opulence and removed with the release of Beyond Light.
  • While normally unmovable, if a player uses the Tractor Cannon on them, the target frames can be shoved around. If shoved off of the back of the map, their health bar will disappear and they will spray out Glimmer, indicating they were killed. Though they have no death animation and will fall in their idle animation until no longer able to be seen.
  • Currently there is no way to summon either Dread Champions, the Barrier Grim and Unstoppable Husk.
    • The Dread also use the Shadow Legion's symbol on the enemy select.
  • Kills within the shooting range are not counted. As such they cannot advance progress within Bounties, Quests, Deepsight levels, Exotic masterwork unlocks, triumphs, and they are not counted on a weapon's kill tracker.
    • Though they can drop event items like candy for Festival of the Lost, but the drop rate is severely reduced. As such there's better ways to farm these drops if that is desired.
