    Bloodline

    {Mission begins}

The Guardian meets with Aunor Mahal beneath the Necropolis. A massive Cabal laser drill can be seen in the distance and a Totality Harvester passes by.
    • Aunor: Good to see you back in the field, Guardian. Thanks to your work with the Syndicates, we prevented the worst of the Dredgens' plans. It was a joy seeing Bael laid low, but I'm afraid he's not done yet. Dredgen cells are still festering across the system. That brings me to the objective at hand: an antique Weapon of Sorrow, held by the Hive nearby. According to the Praxic archives, it belonged to an infamous Dredgen of old. An heirloom of sorts. They've got the Syndicates out searching for ancient weapons, or the means to build new ones. Beat the Syndicates to the Weapon of Sorrow, and keep it out of Dredgen hands. With your tenacity and my insight, we'll cleanse this system in Praxic fire.
The Guardian drops down to Hive structures built into the side of a cliff as they move to the mining laser.
    • Bael: Aunor Mahal. [laughs] My favorite Praxic bootlicker. Here the steal Cull's legacy for yourself?
    • Aunor: We're not here for "legacy". We're here to protect the system from madmen like you.
    • Bael: You subjugate the City with your Light, and then blame those you cast into shadow. I'm the latest in a long line of liberators. With the strength of my benefactor, we'll emancipate humanity.
    • Aunor: They're already cut thorugh the perimeter defenses! Disable that drill!
The Guardian reaches the drill and engages Totality forces. After taking out a Totality Enforcer, the Guardian shoots three control fuses in the Cooling Tower. They then move to destroy three Cooling Pillars, dealing with Totality forces in the process.
    • Aunor: So, It's Dredgen Cull's old weapon they're after. He was a friend of the Drifter, back when they were both Shadows of Yor. Cull fell in the Ascendant Plane. The Hive must have claimed it after his final death. The Darkness in this place is overwhelming. Whatever happens in there, whatever Bael says, don't forget about Tharsis.
The Guardian moves to the drill's control room and takes out the Totality Xenoexcavator controlling it. They then flip a switch to overload the drill, and use a launcher to enter the Hive tunnels under the Necopolis the laser drill had cut into.
    • Bael: Do you know why the Praxics fight to keep Darkness out of mortal hands? That's because once ordinary people master the Darkness, they'll be able to defend themselves, to rule themselves.
    • Aunor: You're the spoiled brat of a foundry exec. What do you know about the people?
    • Bael: They deserve to defend themselves against all threats, including the Vanguard.
The Guardian makes their way through the tunnels, battling Hive and dodging traps.
    • Bael: Look at you, False Weapon. You're a god. Muzzled by the Vanguard and leashed by the Praxics. It's pathetic. VI gave me the power to reforge the system, to see the shape of things to come. A future free from the tyranny of Light.
The Guardian enters Soulfire Crux. Upon reaching a tunnel, they see the shadow of Dredgen Bael against the wall.
    • Bael: The future unfolds in my mind. It's the crown my patron gifted me. You, though… [scoffs] You have no idea what is to come.
The shadow of Bael turns and walks out of sight.
    • Bael: I envy your ignorance. Your… your freedom. You fall without knowing how close the ground is. I know every inch of the way down.
The Guardian continues deeper into the Crux.
    • Bael: You understand by now the only truth… Power decides. Brutality creates the world you want. So, you want to stop me? Last one standing makes the call, False Weapon.
The Guardian continues deeper into the Crux.
    • Bael: False Weapon, what you seek is mine by right. Created through the pain and sacrifice of the Dredgens before me. Just like the soulfire that powers this facility. That's what your vanguard says, isn't it? Devotion, bravery, et cetera?
    • Aunor: Soulfire doesn't create—it only corrupts. Just like the Dredgen.
The Guardian spots a Hive ritual in the distance and approaches it. After taking out Soulfire Vessel Thralls, they dunk the Soulfire Charge into two nearby dishes.
    • Aunor: The Soulfire is gaining intensity. I can feel it… screaming. Cull's weapon must be nearby. I know this has been ugly, but we're almost through.
The Guardian unlocks the way to Cull's weapon. They see a Knight kneeling in prayer while Cull's Shadow floats above them, a large pillar with Totality Legionary bodies pinned to spikes at the base behind it. As they approach, Valus Tau'rig drops down onto the Knight from above, killing it instantly.
    • Aunor: There it is, Guardian. Secure the Weapon of Sorrow!
Tau'rig reaches out for Cull's weapon before it flies into his open hand. Briefly recoiling as soulfire flows into his chest, Tau'rig raises it above him before Totality troops move in.
After damaging Tau'rig enough, a trio of Wizards appear and begin feeding more soulfire into the Valus. They are successful in corrupting Tau'rig, turning him against his forces. Using the method they used to enter the arena, the Guardian manages to overload Tau'rig's shield.
    • Aunor: They're overloading! They can't handle all that power. Remind you of anyone?
The Guardian repeats the process and takes out Tau'rig's shield again.
    • Bael: Our futures are set, False Weapon. You and I are destined to endlessly sharpen one another. Kill, refine, and kill again… until my benefactor escapes, and nothing but perfection is left.
The Guardian puts down Tau'rig and claims Cull's Shadow.
    • Aunor: Cull's weapon—I wonder how many final deaths it dealt. Normally, I'd seal it away in a Praxic vault. But—that's the kind of thinking that empowered Bael in the first place. The more I learn, the more certain I am that Light alone won't save us. We need every tool we can get our hands on. That includes you and Cull's weapon. Keep investigating the area. That weapon was recently modified—production could be ongoing. I have a sinking feeling that Bael's plans go deeper than we've seen.

    {Mission begins}

    • Aunor: Guardian, you secured Dredgen Cull's Weapon of Sorrow, but we're still detecting Hive activity around the stronghold. Press deeper into the fortress and figure out what Bael is after. The Drifter and I will run support.
    • Drifter: Urgh. I know old men have said this since the dawn of time, but… damn kids these days got no respect! Back when I was a Dredgen, we weren't against the Light… just the folks who outlawed the Darkness. But that punk kid Bael's got the Outer Nine in 'im now.
    • Aunor: And we have the Nine's Weapon on point. Good hunting, Guardian.
The Guardian drops into a tunnel to delve deeper into the Soulfire Crux, dodging spinning Hive traps as they do.
    • Aunor: They're using soulfire to power industrial machinery. It's death as an energy source. Thanatonauts have confirmed it can fuel Hive bioenergetics. Looks like it can power Weapons of Sorrow as well.
    The Guardian navigates Hive tunnels.
    • Aunor: If Bael can utilize soulfire, he can forge Guardian killers. He didn't need Cull's weapon—he needs the blueprint. With that, he can make an arsenal!
    • Bael: The False Weapon arrives, shooting mindlessly wherever they're pointed. And the Betrayer. The walking dead man himself. I'm standing over your corpse as we speak.
    • Drifter: Ooh, ha! You wish, kid. The Nine got you all turned around. You ain't built for two.
The Guardian enters a chamber with dead Totality Legionaries hanging from the walls. After killing a Soulfire Vessel Knight, the Guardian douses a Soulfire jet using a Worm, allowing them to delve deeper into the facility.
    • Aunor: The soulfire is siphoning underground, piping into a colossal reserve beneath us. There are veins throughout the Moon: storage chambers, transmission works… This isn't just a storage system—they've built a forge!
    • Bael: Take it all in, False Weapon. Your inevitable end. VI and I… we want you to see this.
    • Aunor: He's clearly looking for another way to strike us. Soulfire must be his next play. I almost respect the grit. You took more than his hand from him.
The Guardian enters a large facility with a pool of Soulfire. They continue to descend through it, dousing more Soulfire jets to progress and avoiding deadly jets of Soulfire.
    • Bael: Beneath you flows a river of soulfire. Consider how many lives were spent to make it. Sword Logic is, ironically, blunt, but it carves out a fundamental truth: Everything worth anything requires sacrifice.
The Guardian delves deeper, encountering dead Totality Legionaries littering the area, including one hanging by their feet from the cealing and several in a pool of soulfire.
    • Aunor: These are Totality foot solders. They're harvesting Barants. Their armor's been drained of organogel and—by the Light! They've had… they've had their bones torn out from the extremities. Hive weapon patterns often use osteoid frames, but they're usually grown. Not harvested.
The Guardian uses a large Hive wheel to enter a large reserve of Soulfire.
    • Aunor: Dredgen activity is spiking across the system. The Nightfall attack was a propaganda coup. Ikora wants you to be the tip of the spear. As ranking field Guardian—and Nine Weapon.
The Guardian traverses over the soulfire reverse.
    • Aunor: We know the Dredgens have all the soulfire they need for an "Arsenal of Sorrow". Let's pinpoint where they're channeling it and burn it all down.
The Guardian encounters a trio of Soulfed Hive, Kharûn, Soulfed Warden, Na'zug, Soulfed Behemoth and Vorgûl, Soulfed Matriarch. Using the engorged worms used to unlock passage deeper into the Crux, the Guardian is able to defeat them all. After each death, the Soulfire in them is sucked into a large crystal in the ceiling.
    • Aunor: My Ghost, Bahaghari, traced the soulfire flare out to a secondary facility. It… looks like a reservoir of some kind, but the data flow is enormous. I'd bet my Blade that's not just a storage facility. This code looks like command language. That's our next target.
    • Drifter: Bael, ah… you say the Hive had it all figured out. Big things eat the little ones until there's only one thing left. But you know that ain't gonna be you, right? The Nine will use you up long before then.
    • Bael: The path to true power is worth any sacrifice. A real Dredgen would see that.
    {Mission end}
    Immolation
    • Aunor: You're within striking distance of the forge, where all the soulfire is being channeled. Bury this place, and the Hive's foul magic with it.
    • Drifter: You know, I don't remember you being this ruthless before.
The Guardian crosses the reserve of soulfire using Hive columns and descends down a carved-out tunnel.
    • Aunor: Destroy this place, Guardian, and all the secrets it holds. With any luck, Weapons of Sorrow, will fade into obscurity, along with the Dredgens.
    • Bael: You can steal from us. Erase our history. Disown us. But every day the Vanguard keeps their boots on the people's necks, they create a new Dredgen. You'll never stop us all.
    • Drifter: Pains me to say it, but the kid ain't wrong. Plenty of mortals want what the Guardians have… and I don't blame 'em.
    • Aunor: Of course, but killing Lightbearers won't get them any closer. It's like they want another Dark Age.
    • Drifter: With the Outer Nine behind Bael, they just might get it.
The Guardian enters the Forge of Sorrow. Navigating through more tunnels and battling through Hive, they eventually defeat a Forgebound Sentry Ogre and progress deeper.
    • Aunor: The soulfire is getting more intense as you approach the forge. I can feel the Darkness surging and roiling. Avoid it for now… but perhaps there are ways we can use it against our foe.
The Guardian encounters a Darkblade known as the Soulfire Bellow Stoker. After dealing enough damage, it withdraws.
    • Aunor: This chamber regulates the distribution of soulfire within the forge, like an intake manifold. But it's too much energy to use in its raw form. There must be a central mechanism focusing all this energy… something paracausal.
The Guardian works on redirecting the Soulfire in the room and kills the Soulfire Bellow Stoker. Afterwards, they descend into the Forge's inner workings.
    • Drifter: Bael… even if the Nine really are giving you the inside scoop, you're losin' yourself, huh?
    • Bael: That's because you can't see the whole picture yet! Your own death! Your face covered in writhing growths, your body possessed… Pulled rotting from the ground. Light burning your eyes out… Until you can't even recognize your own son. It's me!
    • Aunor: He's cracking. He doesn't even know you from his own mother anymore.
The Guardian navigates the forge's inner workings, dodging pillars of soulfire and fighting Hive, until they make it to the heart of the forge. As they approach, they can hear a loud metallic thump, followed by a loud scream. As they get closer, they find a Warlock being suspended in Hive Magic in the middle of the forge surrounded by praying Acolytes. A large Hive Knight wielding a hammer slams it down on the forge, causing a pillar of soulfire to erupt and kill the Warlock. A few seconds later, a Ghost revives the Warlock and the process repeats until the Guardian intervenes or gets too close.
    • Aunor: It's Ir Gohl, the Weaponsmith!
    • Drifter: Give this fella a taste of his own soulfire.
    • Aunor: Use the worms to destabilize the forge.
Using worms gorged with soulfire to destabilize the forge, the Guardian is able to take out Ir Gohl's shield and ultimatly defeat him. They approach the floating Warlock and releases her. The Warlock's body falls to the ground and disappears while her Ghost quickly flees.
    • Bael: You can steal Cull's legacy. Erase the Dredgen from your histories. Suppress the messages of the Nine. No matter. The new Dredgen will make our own weapons. Our own legacy… From the ashes of your fraudulent Tower.
    • Aunor: Good work, Guardian. With any luck, you now hold the last Weapon of Sorrow every made.
    • Drifter: It's better off in your hands, hero. And that's the truth.
    • Aunor: Hopefully that poor tortured Warlock in the forge can finally find peace. Too bad we can't say the same for Bael. VI is devouring his mind, synapse by synapse. And he won't stop until the Outer Nine control the system. But whatever they're planning, it won't include an Arsenal of Sorrow. The Weapon has seen to that.

    {Mission ends}

If completed as the timed version, a Hive Tomb will appear to read.

    TOMB OF ENKAAR, THE ANOINTED

Opus of Sorrow—Findings of Enkaar, the Anointed

"…Discovered, in the time before his sundering, that the purification of soulfire was not a process of distillation, but of alloyment."

"…Heretical belief that the perfection of Sorrow is beyond the reach of the Deep. That true suffering may only be achieved in attendance of the Sky."

    Profane Worms[edit]

Scattered through the three variations of Oblation are nine Profane Worms (three in each version). Each worm is incased in a barrier requiring a Weapon of Sorrow to break. Once collected, you will get dialogue from Aunor and the Drifter. Collecting all the Worms will unlock the Oh Worm? Triumph, which will reward 15 Legendary Marks, as well as the Oceanus Procellarum Shader.

"And my vanquisher will read that book, seeking the weapon, and they will come to understand me, where I have been and where I was going."
The following is a verbatim transcription of an official document for archival reasons. As the original content is transcribed word-for-word, any possible discrepancies and/or errors are included.
    First Worm

Located in the beginning area in a Hive tower next to the platform where you disable the first cooling pillar.

    • Aunor: Scans show a single Ghost in the center of the facility, where all the soulfire coalesces. But I don't see a Lightbearer with it. The Ghost is just… idling there. I'll send it an encrypted ping and see if I get anything back.
    Second Worm

Located in the tunnels next to a spinning Hive trap.

    • Aunor: No reply to that ping on the wayward Ghost. But interestingly, its energy signature cycles every few minutes. I think it's trying to revive someone. There might be a Lightbearer trapped inside.
    Third Worm

Located in a small Hive building in the Soulfire Crux that can only be accessed through a hole in its roof.

    • Aunor: I think I've identified the trapped Lightbearer. One… Clauda Miraan. Warlock. Went missing in this AO years ago. She was on the Praxic watchlist as a potential Dredgen. Could be one of Bael's earliest recruits.
    Fourth Worm

Located in a room at the back left of the arena with the Soulfire pool, needing destroying the third crystal.

    • Drifter: All this mess reminds me of my Dredgen days. We were determined to break out of the box the Traveler put us in. Cracking the code of the universe. Balancing the scales Ulan-Tan style. Funny thing about it… I was dragging the Haul around, even back then. The Nine already had my number. I spent all that time trying to break out of the wrong damn box.
    Fifth Worm

Located behind a large Hive wheel in the soulfire reserve room.

    • Aunor: I have a working theory on the missing Warlock, Clauda Miraan. She could be buried under some rubble, or being held captive. That would explain why she can't escape. But why wouldn't her Ghost just call for help?
    Sixth Worm

Located in a leftmost room prior to fighting the trio of Soulfed Hive behind a door needing four crystals attacked with worms to unlock.

    • Aunor: It seems likely that the missing Warlock came looking for Dredgen Cull's weapon… Following in the footsteps of the Shadows of Yor.
    • Drifter: Looking back, I feel like the Shadows were a lie we forgot wasn't true. Or a joke that nobody got. Malphur putting his Golden Gun through Cull was the sad punchline.
    Seventh Worm

Located in the rightmost tunnel upon entering the Forge of Sorrow.

    Eighth Worm

Located in the forge's inner workings.

    • Aunor: I have a new theory on the missing Warlock. It's crazy, but… I think she's being deliberately kept on the edge of death. Revived just long enough to suffer. It fits all the facts. But… but that would mean that her Ghost is deliberately torturing her, in league with the Hive.
    Ninth Worm

Located in the area prior to fighting Ir Gohl opposite the path to him.

    • Aunor: It looks like my theory was right. Clauda Miraan's Ghost is reviving her just so Ir Gohl can harvest her suffering. Once we shut down the forge, it should end the cycle. Clauda deserves some peace. I'll put her Ghost on the Praxic watch list, but I'd be surprised if they compile in Vanguard jurisdiction after this. I seldom have sympathy for a Dredgen, but… nobody deserves eternal punishment like that.
