Exotic Shards are an exotic upgrade material used to fully upgrade exotic armor and weapons. They can be purchased from Xur for seven Strange Coins, or gained from disassembling exotic gear. Dismantaling a fully upgarded exotic weapon or armor gives two exotic shards. Exotic shards are also used to Ascend exotic gear to the maximum attack/defense value for year 1.
