- "A janitor? You're kidding right?"
- — Ja'ahn
Ja'ahn is a Legionary once renowned for his physicality, power and tactical sense under Dominus Ghaul's Red Legion, however, after Ghaul's death, he joined the ranks of the Loyalists, where he was assigned the role of personal janitor for Emperor Calus. He would then defect again to Empress Caiatl, entering the front lines again. He would defect for a third time to join Premier Lume's Barant Imperium where he would become a Bracus and the overseer of all janitorial operations of the Barant Imperium.
Biography[edit]
Red Legion[edit]
From a young age, Ja'ahn showed his potential in the gladiator pits of Torobatl, spectators noted his great strength and clever strategy. He would graduate to become a Red Legionnaire, where his combat prowess on the battlefield would be noticed by Dominus Ghaul himself, Ja'ahn would be promoted to the Red Legion's Blood Guard after he acted with bravery against a Hive Knight known as Namok, Knife of Oryx. This was during a tactical retreat on the planet Jasper in which Ja'ahn's squad was ambushed solely by Namok as they attempted to reach their ship, Namok would slaughter almost the entire team, including a multitude of the Blood Guard troops that accompanied them. Ja'ahn was determined to save the crew and drew his solar blade before flying toward the massive Knight, he would land on the Knight's chest and slit its throat. As the Knight fell to its knees grasping its throat, the surviving members would escape, the Knight was presumed dead on site. Ja'ahn's heroism would be acknowledged and he became a Blood Guard Legionary as he proved he was willing to sacrifice himself for the Cabal Empire. Ja'ahn quickly became one of the Blood Guard's most valued Legionaries and he was landed in the Last City on the day the Red War began, he would go on to kill 11 Guardians in the ensuing battles of the initial invasion.
Loyalists[edit]
After the death of Dominus Ghaul, Ja'ahn felt as though he lacked purpose without a leader to guide the Cabal. Word traveled fast however that former Emperor, Calus had entered Sol with his Leviathan. Many would consider it treacherous to side with Calus, but Ja'ahn felt it was his only option. He would fly to the Leviathan, where he was detained by a pair of Loyalist Colossi due to his status as a Red Legionnaire. He told them he posed no threat and wanted to join the Loyalists, he would then be taken to meet Calus. The Emperor would be surprised to see a Blood Guard soldier at his footstep. Calus paid little attention to his combat prowess and decided his sanitation team was low on numbers. "You will find the greatest glory with a mop in one hand and a bucket in the other", Calus would say to him, an outraged Ja'ahn would respond with "A janitor? You're kidding right, I didn't spend years as one of the Blood Guard's best just to be handed a mop to clean up whatever mess you might make Emperor." Calus stated he should not only count himself lucky, but grateful that he's even accepting Ja'ahn due to his former role in Ghaul's legions.
Life as a Janitor[edit]
Ja'ahn would go on to earn the trust of Calus, so much as becoming his favourite Janitor. He was just as efficient as a cleaner as he was as a soldier. So much so that Calus would give him the most challenging tasks he could bestow, the cleaning of the Leviathan's underbelly and the cleaning of his Pleasure Yacht. Ja'ahn would always miss the glory of fighting, but he learnt to embrace the peaceful life that so few Cabal live, although he hates mopping day on end, he does believe it a calming break from years of fighting, even if cleaning the Pleasure Yacht after one of Calus' parties is a war in its self.
Defection[edit]
After the Leviathan left Sol, Calus became increasingly neglectful of the Leviathan's condition, making Ja'ahn's job increasingly difficult. Ja'ahn's cleaning operations would remain entirely on the Leviathan after the defection of Tiberius led to the loss of Calus's Pleasure Yacht. Nonetheless, despite only operating on one site instead of two at this stage, the turning point of Ja'ahn's attitude would be when the Leviathan returned to Sol with Scorn, and a plague of Egregore on board. Ja'ahn would grow infuriated at Calus and confronted him about the condition of his flagship, to which Calus paid little attention to. Cleaning Scorn blood and Egregore was a harrowing task, Ja'ahn would nearly die twice from Egregore infection in his skin, but the substances themselves were much harder to wash out and would constantly replenish due to the conflict on the Leviathan. Ja'ahn saw an out, he decided to sneak into the ship bay of the Leviathan, acting as though he was going to clean it. A pair Psion Operants, Vacca and Infernus, grew suspicious of him. They would follow him and confront him once he attempted to board his Thresher, the same one he used to board the Leviathan years prior. Upon being questioned by the Psions, Ja'ahn would fling the scalding water of his wash bucket at Vacca, causing her armour's systems to burn and explode, he would then snap his brush in half and impale Infernus with the end of it, leaving both of the Psions dead. Ja'ahn quickly started up his Thresher and escaped the Leviathan.
Return to the Empire[edit]
After a few weeks of lying low after defecting from Calus's ranks, Ja'ahn sought out Empress Caiatl in order to rejoin the Cabal Empire. Although, Ja'ahn didn't desire to become a soldier again, he enquired to Caiatl to become a janitor, as he enjoyed the peaceful life. Caiatl however, knew of Ja'ahn's past and deemed it nonsense to waste such an accomplished soldier in a janitorial role and enlisted him to her armies. Caiatl didn't fully trust him due to his defection record, so he was not given his former high rank, but was instead deemed a standard Legionary, becoming known as Ja'ahn, Imperial Trooper. During his stint in the Ascendancy, Ja'ahn would become good friends with a Bracus named Lume, they would embark on many operations together, including one in Savathûn's Throne World which would see Lume injured and out of action indefinitely. Lume was greatly upset by this but Ja'ahn reassured him that living in peace wasn't that bad, that he missed it himself. He also told him being a janitor wasn't as insulting as it sounds. Lume would disappear a few months later, nobody knew where, not even Ja'ahn knew.
Ja'ahn Vs Jahrr'hid[edit]
During the invasion of Neomuna, Ja'ahn would be deployed in a skirmish against the Shadow Legion. Ja'ahn would be targeted by many of the Shadow Legion's troops as they recognised him from his Loyalist days. A particular Shadow Guard Legionary named Jahrr'hid paid particular attention to him. The two were previously well acquainted on the Leviathan, but it wasn't a happy reunion, they engaged in a bloody conflict. They would throw deadly punches at eachother, snakey jabs with their blades and fire countless shots at eachother. A particularly dangerous slash from Jahrr'hid's sword left Ja'ahn in extreme distress, Jahrr'hid then went to chokehold Ja'ahn, attempting to finish him off. Ja'ahn would thump Jahrr'hid in the stomach, fall to the ground, rapidly pick up his gun lying on the ground and kill Jahrr'hid with a single well aimed bullet through the skull. Ja'ahn lay on the ground mortally wounded before Imperial Medic Psions would transport him off the battlefield. Ja'ahn's injuries were extensive and would leave him out of the front lines indefinitely.
An Unexpected Reunion[edit]
Over two years after his removal from the front lines, Ja'ahn found himself wandering in the presumed empty city of Freehold, with the intent to clear his mind as he once again felt as though he lacked a true purpose. He could no longer be a soldier and Caiatl still wasn't open to the idea of a janitor, leaving Ja'ahn with nothing. Whilst he wandered the sands of Freehold, he noticed Legionaries marching through the dust clouds, he thought it would be a detachment of Caiatl's troops coming to take him home. He would be wrong, a squadron of eight white armoured Legionaries would march toward the unarmed Ja'ahn, pointing their guns at him, Ja'ahn held his hands up high and he was detained. The Legionaries would take him aboard a mysterious command ship, Ja'ahn was left confused, wondering where these new Cabal came from. Ja'ahn would be thrown down to his knees behind a towering Cabal figure, the large Cabal would turn around and look Ja'ahn stern in the eye. "Lume?" Ja'ahn questioned, Lume's eyes lightened, "Ja'ahn?". "You're alive" said a shocked Ja'ahn. The two would spend a couple of minutes speaking before Lume's Legionaries questioned what prison cell to transport Ja'ahn to. Lume told them to hold off and offered Ja'ahn to join his Barant Imperium, Ja'ahn accepted, but would mention that he can no longer fight on the front lines. Lume told him not to worry and that he would find another role for him. This marked Ja'ahn's third defection.
Janitorius Gloriosus[edit]
Premier Lume would grant Ja'ahn a role he was familiar with, but improved in many ways. Ja'ahn would be granted the rank of Bracus Ja'ahn, become an Incendior and would be given the rank of Janitorius Gloriosus, the overseer of all janitorial operations of the Barant Imperium. His new role would allow him to induct members to and command an Imperium subsidiary group known as Ja'ahn's Cleaning Crew. The crew comprised of Janitor Legionaries and Janitor Psions. His personal work would include but wasn't limited to; basic janitorial duties such as mopping and sweeping, his new Imperium Trolley made this easier for him. He was also in charge of pest control (Thrall in particular), waste management and he would become a technician of the Imperium's sewage systems. His new Incendior kit allowed him to destroy pests and remove even the most stubborn of substances. Ja'ahn had found a new lease of life, thanks to his old friend Lume.
Trivia[edit]
- Ja'ahn's Imperium armour is similar to that of a Blood Guard Incendior, albeit in white instead of red.
- Ja'ahn's name is pronounced similarly to the human name, John.
