Jasper is a small planet not much bigger than Mercury and it belongs to a distant star system, it is known for its rich resources and perilous conditions. It is known to be occupied by Blood of Oryx Hive and has been the ground for Red Legion Cabal mining operations in the past, before being abandoned by them after skirmishes broke out across the planet, lead by Namok, Knife of Oryx.

History

Project: Almighty

Around six decades prior to the Red War, Ghaul's Red Legion were scouring countless star systems in search for the vast amount of resources required to build the Almighty, a proposed superweapon capable of annihilating stars. The Red Legion would discover Jasper and find out its surface and caves were filled with rich minerals suited to building Ghaul's proposed superweapon. Mining operations would begin almost instantly and several dozen crews would harvest the planet's resources for years, however the Red Legion would discover Hive of the Blood of Oryx embedded deep in its caves. Soon after skirmishes broke out across the planet, with the Blood of Oryx Hive prevailing in almost every instance, under the guise of one of Oryx's champions, Namok. Ghaul called for a tactical retreat from the planet. A particular instance saw one of the last crews attacked by Namok by himself, he would kill most of the troops before a young Legionnaire named Ja'ahn would draw their solar blade and fly toward Namok, Ja'ahn would land on the chest of the towering Knight and slit his throat open, causing the Knight to collapse to the ground, grasping its throat to prevent the bleeding. Ja'ahn and the remaining crew would escape the planet and Ja'ahn would be promoted to the rank of Blood Guard thanks to his courage against Namok, Knife of Oryx. Namok would be presumed dead not long after.

Environment

Jasper's global climate is known to be harsh, ranging from scorching hot to freezing cold temperatures. The planet varied from acidic springs, seemingly lifeless barrens and desolate ice plains. The Jaspernian weather is relentless, ranging from rainstorms, snow storms and even dust storms, making living conditions difficult, even for the Blood of Oryx and the Red Legion miners. The planets surface is comprised of warm colours, such as acidic yellows, martian reds and washed out oranges. It is littered with ruined Red Legion mining centers, medical camps, Hive seeders and deep catacombs carved out by the Blood of Oryx.

Not much is known about the Jaspernian wildlife, all that is known of it exists within Red Legion archives. They mention that most of the plants are root like, tough to cut and provide little feedable vegetation, although, whatever was edible, was extremely nutritious and energizing. Forests of Kelp-like plants were also discovered. A small minority of plants grow small flowers that would suit a palace. The Cabal noted that wildlife was sparse, with most of it likely being extinct due to Hive settlement. But a small number of specimens were found and researched. Logs noted a species of herbivore that had a camouflaging, root like colour scheme, human scientists analysis the Cabal files noted that the creatures resemble Iguanas. Cabal noted a species of carnivorous animal that they'd name as "Sphynx". They first discovered them as War Beasts patrolling the Jaspernian surface at night would disappear by morning, Psion spotters discovered that the War Beasts were being preyed upon and killed by these giant Sphynx. They were easily identifiable by a hunched bipedal posture, body covered in spines and crooked teeth. Their file regarded them as apex predators of the region, as they are around 22 feet long, 8.5 feet tall and weigh around 1.5 tonnes, bigger than most Barant. Even bigger was the 6 tonne beast known as the "Moloch", a herbivorous animal that roamed the kelp like forests, possessing a large muscular build, a large defensive frill and a dangerous horn, even Sphynx stay well clear of them unless hunting in a pack. Human scientists noticed it had a resemblance to the dinosaur, Sinoceratops.
