Mercuite, The Black Star is a Disciple of the Witness. He like his sister is a powerful psionic entity. However having crossed the wrong person he was killed in a completely one-sided fight between him and the most powerful of the Curators; Thirhe, Lord of Vengeance. As things stand now, his body lies dead to rot within his pyramid which just so happens to be the alternate reality version of the The Europan Pyramid.

Legacy[edit]

Long after his presumed death, Mercuite would begin to resurface as but whispers on the songs of the Taken. Then among some of the Dread... culiminating into a climax by the death of Malefor, The Sky Eater. This event would be the catalyst to reawaken the now supposedly resurrected Disciple.

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

It would be revealed that Mercuite was only brought back by The Witness to serve as a vessel for its first big move to prepare the system for its arrival. So, there would be no resistance.

Mercuite, Vessel of the Witness is the final boss encounter of Singularity’s Horizon. The fight takes place within the core chamber of the Velo Umbra’s Black Hole Generator, with the singularity visibly reacting to each phase of the battle.

Mercuite wields his glaive known Dark-Eater which deals Stasis/Strand damage and begins the encounter under brief immunity, broken only through Obelisk manipulation.

Arena Layout

  • Three Obelisks
    • Left
    • Right
    • Central (always rotated last)

The Black Hole Generator dominates the arena and destabilizes as mechanics progress.

Primary Mechanic: Obelisk Rotation Ultra Taken Wyverns, designated Salvation’s Final Judgement, periodically spawn. These Wyverns lock Obelisks, preventing rotation. Slaying a Wyvern unlocks its associated Obelisk.

To initiate damage: All three Obelisks must be rotated The central Obelisk must always be rotated last Damage is always dealt from the central Obelisk Rotating all Obelisks removes Mercuite’s shield and begins a damage phase.

Damage Phases The fireteam is limited to three damage phases. Failure to reduce Mercuite to Final Stand health within three phases causes Final Stand to begin early. Mercuite becomes increasingly aggressive between phases, using the following abilities alongside its main ranged attack Stasis/Strand Unraveled Crystals:

  • Void Psionic Quake
  • Solar Witness’s Shatter
  • Psychic Blink

To name a few

Final Stand — Absolute Faith At 25% health, or after the third damage phase, Mercuite enters Final Stand. Mercuite halts all defensive behavior The Witness speaks through him, his eyes burning with resonant orange light The Black Hole Generator enters irreversible overload

Final Stand Rules: The party has 2 rounds to defeat Mercuite If the timer expires, the fireteam wipes Melee attacks against Mercuite extend the timer by 1 round Timer extensions are capped at 7 total rounds Once capped, melee attacks deal damage but no longer extend the timer The final 25% of Mercuite’s health must be depleted before the timer ends This phase rewards aggressive, high-risk play while punishing hesitation.
