"First, the Great Machine. Then, sky fell away. Whirlwind ripped away the past. All honor lost, all hope. Judgment not enough. Cannot keep Wolves from Kings, Scar from Winter. Fell to fighting. Fell to hate."
Variks, the Loyal

The Whirlwind was an apocalyptic event that triggered the collapse of the Eliksni civilization, caused by the departure of the Traveler due to the arrival of the Darkness. The Whirlwind occurred centuries before humanity's first contact with the Traveler.[1]

Much like humanity’s Golden Age and the Collapse that followed suit, the Eliksni experienced significant advancement in technology under the Traveler before a sudden cataclysm destroyed everything. The Eliksni homeworld of Riis was set upon by the Pyramids, causing the Traveler to flee. The Pyramids subsequently caused massive damage to the Eliksni civilization, and the remaining Houses fell to fighting each other. The Hive under the command of Oryx, the Taken King then descended upon the remaining Eliksni, killing and Taking many of the survivors. Several Houses, including House Stone and much of House Rain, were ultimately wiped out, with billions of Eliksni perishing. The remaining Eliksni fled their homeworld in pursuit of the Traveler, eventually arriving in the Sol System shortly after Humanity's Collapse.
