This article is about the military artificial intelligence. For the expansion, see Warmind (expansion).
Rasputin

"The legendary Warminds stood watch over our Golden Age colonies: vigilant intelligences stretched across thousands of warsats and hardened installations. When the Collapse struck, the great Warminds fought and died. Rasputin is the main warmind, managing the vast network of warsats used for communication across the system. — Grimoire description.[1]

A Warmind is a military artificial intelligence designed for strategic orbital or land warfare. Rasputin, the Warmind, is the only surviving AI of this kind, though there might be more in the past. Rasputin used to coordinate the network of hardened planet-side military installations and countless Warsats built during the Golden Age. A Warmind is so complex and intelligent that even the Vex are supposed to be unable simulating them.[2]

Overview

According to Ikora Rey, Rasputin is the only Warmind in existence. Although several Warmind vaults across the system remain intact and functional centuries later, they lie empty.[3] A fragment of Rasputin was marooned on Earth in the Cosmodrome due to the fragmentation of the Warmind network,[3] but is able to remotely access some off-world installations thanks to the re-activation of the Terrestrial Complex comms array.[4] After the defeat of Xol and Nokris, this fragment was reconnected to the greater Rasputin intelligence in the Hellas Basin region on Mars.

As far as is known, Rasputin was the only functioning Warmind at the time of the Collapse. The idea of multiple Warminds beyond Rasputin is reflected in several places across Destiny. Grimoire: Ghost Fragment: Old Russia 3 refers to Rasputin as "the brooding wary first-among-equals"[5]; Grimoire: Rasputin mentions some other Warminds that fought and died during the Collapse and suggests that "Rasputin’s survival opens the possibility that other Warminds may be revivable"[1]. Tyra Karn spent a decade in the search of the alleged second Warmind, the Charlemagne, only to find it being merely a submind of Rasputin.[6] Malahayati, the "submind" appearing in Grimoire: Ghost Fragment: Old Russia 3, is understood to be another submind of Rasputin as well.

One of numerous far-off legends about the Nine's nature claims they are "deep-orbit warminds who weathered the Collapse in hardened stealth platforms".[7]

Trivia

Early Destiny concepts mentioned Charlemagne being a separate entity from Rasputin and a Warmind of its own, "one of the great Warminds of the Golden Age—a vast machine intelligence built by the ancient Powers of Mars".[8]
