Destiny 2: New Light

Objective(s):

Head for Venus and assist the Vanguard in counter-Vex operations.

Destinypedia doesn't currently have a walkthrough for this level; could you write one?

The Vanguard have set their sights onto Venus once more. Assist a contact, restore the Patrol network and eliminate a rising Vex threat

New Frontiers is a Quest players acquire after beating Cry from the Grave and released alongside The Witch Queen, as well as the return of Venus as a new patrol zone for Destiny 2. Aiding Shaw Han in the liberation of the Cosmodrome from both surging Hive and Fallen threats, he reassigns the New Lights to a new Vanguard operation involving the exploration and restoration of the patrol zones of Venus in the hopes of countering the rise of a new threat for the young Guardians, the Vex. Working alongside the Warlock, Alana Reyn, they begin to establish a patrol zone and strike back at the machine menace. In addition to a new patrol zone, this Quest also introduces New Light guardians to Normal and Legendary missions, as well as a reprised The Nexus strike.

Quest Steps[edit]

Reassignment[edit]

  • Meet with Shaw Han and see what news he has to say

"Hmm. It appears Shaw Han wants to brief us on something new the Vanguard has been preparing, says we might be good enough to cut our teeth on it. Well, despite all the work we've been doing here, I suppose we should find some other operation to partake in to aid the Traveler. Let's see what he has to say." - The Ghost

Transcript[edit]

{Vendor Cutscene}

  • Shaw Han - Hey there... well, new blood isn't exactly a fitting title for you any more, is it? Hence why I called you here in the first place. You've done a lot of incredible work for the Vanguard here. Killing Navôta, crushing Deksis, and smashing S.A.B.E.R.. But I think we've done enough work around here, if you follow. Thanks to you, New Lights can freely explore this place without having to deal with an incredible threat, and thus, don't need people like us to protect them anymore. Which is why I've reassigned you to Venus! Congratulations! Time to spread those wings of yours, eh? But enough formality, time to give you the run-down. The Vanguard have picked up increased activity around the Ishtar Sink, and need the aid of a couple of Guardians to reestablish patrol zones, get a read of the land while there and, hopefully, stop whatever is happening around the coast. Head there as soon as you can, Guardian. Once you land, find one of our contacts who has been monitoring the situation there. Her name... [sighs] Her name is Alana Reyn. ...Yeah, I know her. She's a Warlock, once a part of my fireteam before she struck off on her own. She's obsessed with the secrets of that world, been trying to dredge up information on the Ishtar Archive, on the civilization there, on the Vex. I suppose there's no one else I could trust with maintaining operations there, but, well, fair bit of advice, she's eccentric. Loves talking a mile a minute. But I think you and her will get along well, all things considering. Well, I suppose this is where we bid farewell, Guardian. Good luck, with everything. Especially Alana.

To Where it Began[edit]

  • Head for Venus and seek out your new acquaintance, Alana Reyn

"Venus. So much has happened on that planet, during the Golden Age, during the Collapse, even in recent events. Place hasn't really seen much love from the Vanguard since the end of the Red War, so it might be brimming with hostiles, Guardian. Be prepared for anything." - The Ghost

Transcript[edit]

The Guardian travels to Venus

  • Ghost - Venus. Once a thriving center of science and knowledge during the Golden Age. But ever since the Collapse, it's slowly been corrupted by the influence of these hostile machines. The Vex. Operations in the past have done a lot to dismantle their structures and plans, and I'd dare say the things that happened here catalyzed the events that are transpiring today. But I digress; seems our deeds here aren't over. Not yet.

The ship exits warp space and heads for Venus. An in-game cutscene plays, showing the Guardian's ship approaching Venus and cruising over the Ishtar Sink.

  • Ghost - Seems like Shaw and the Vanguard weren't kidding. I'm detecting a lot of activity around the entire Ishtar Sink. Seems like we got our work cut out for us. But we can deal with that later, apparently we're to meet up with Alana, wherever she is. Let's touch down here, away from possible ambush.

Mission begins

  • Ghost - Looks like there's an encampment here... abandoned, obviously, but maybe we can gather some information on the land while we can. Get me to that terminal there.

The Guardian heads for a terminal in the Headlands encampment and scans an active device there

  • Ghost - Huh, most of the files here are protected by some serious encryption, but there is an audio file here that's free to play. Let's take a listen.
  • ??? - DON'T TOUCH MY STUFF!
  • Ghost - WHOA!
  • ??? - If you're a thief, I will hunt you down to the edges of the system, especially if you are one of those four-armed bastards who keep messing with my damn probes! If you are looking for me, well then, sorry for my outburst, just a string of recent bad luck. Unfortunately, I'm out scrounging for some data from the Collective. Feel free to get comfortable and wait. If not, head for the Ishtar Academy, you'll find me there.
  • Ghost - Alright then... No data on it's location, but there is a former Guardian outpost nearby that should give us the lay of the land. Let's go, Guardian.

The Guardian enters the Shattered Coast and heads for the outpost overlooking the cliff edge. Upon reaching it, a Skiff approaches, offloading Fallen reinforcements

  • Ghost - Wait, is that... Fallen, incoming! Brace yourself!

The Guardian eliminates the Fallen ambushers

  • Ghost - House of Dusk? What are they doing here?

The Guardian is led to the terminal and may place down a rally flag nearby to replenish their ammo and abilities. As the Guardian scans it, more Fallen arrive and a Darkness Zone falls. Guardians are introduced to the mechanics of missions, and even Legendary difficulty modifiers.

  • Ghost - We have more incoming! Defend me for a second.

The Guardian dispatches the horde of Fallen, keeping their numbers of themselves and their Ghost, finally reaching 100% on downloads

  • Ghost - I got as much as we can, but the terminal was extremely corrupted. Most of the data is incomplete. Let's go find another, watch for more Fallen.

The Guardian heads for the other terminal on the other side of the abandoned city and encounters some light Fallen resistance before interfacing with the terminal once more

  • Ghost - Here they come! Eyes up, Guardian!

The Ghost continues to scan as hordes of Fallen are eliminated, especially their Marauder, Shank and Wretch backup. A Servitor is killed.

  • Ghost - Guardian, look! That Servitor dropped something.

Upon collecting the Code Segment, the download percent increases drastically

  • Ghost - The Fallen must have ripped everything from these computers. Of course they would do that. See if you can find more of those codes while you keep them off me.

The Guardian eliminates more waves of reinforcements and collects more Code Segments from the attacking hordes of Servitors. The Ghost finally gathers all the data he needs and the darkness zone falls. A chest(s) spawn next to the terminal.

  • Ghost - Whew. There we go! I got everything we need. Seems the archives are... that way!

The Guardian heads towards the archive, only to find a rally flag next to the opening. Upon approaching the door, a Web Mine goes off as it is sealed by a Fallen barrier. A Darkness Zone falls and a Skiff approaches, hailing the Guardian with fire from its turrets while offloading Kiriks-4, High Servitor

  • Ghost - Seems the Fallen really don't want us going into that Archive! Too bad. Take down that Servitor, and we should be free to enter.

The Guardian pursues the High Servitor around the Coast, chipping away at its health before it retreats behind an immune shield. Scorch Captains, House of Dusk spawn

  • Ghost - [Grunts] It's protected itself in a powerful shield, Guardian. None of our firepower is going to cut it. But I think the Fallen's own ordnance will. Let's take those cannons, Guardian.

The Guardian secures a Scorch Cannon from a slain Scorch Captain and breaks the Servitor's shield with a blast or more of the Scorch Cannon

  • Ghost - Shield's down! Let 'em have it!

The Guardian damages Kiriks-4 more and repeats another shield breaking process. After some battle with the Ultra Servitor, the machine falls, allowing the Guardian to progress into the Archive

  • Ghost - Servitor down, and the Fallen are in retreat! Let's go find our missing Guardian.

The Guardian goes through the once sealed off door

  • Ghost - Hey, you think that Guardian is our contact, Alana? I mean, Shaw warned us she was eccentric, but, surely someone can't be that strange, right?

The Guardian enters the Ishtar Archive itself, picking up movement on their radar and seeing the opening crackling with energy

  • Ghost - I don't like this Guardian, I'm detecting movement... everywhere. It's like something is just... watching us.

The Guardian enters the Archive, encountering a Conflux before them, as well as a place to rally

  • Ghost - What is that? Guardian, let me see it.

The Ghost is led to the Conflux and begins scanning it

  • Ghost - Curious. This thing is comprised of non-baryonic energy all being channeled to... where exactly? Hmm, seems like there was-

Vex spawn orbs appear in the room

  • Ghost - Huh? Wait, Guardian incoming! We have- the Vex.

A wave of Goblins appear and begin engaging the fireteam. If a Goblin's head is blown off by fire:

  • Ghost - It's not dead?! How is it- the chest! Aim for the chest!

The wave, as well as a few others are eliminated, this time, including Hobgoblins and Minotaurs, ever increasing in volume and difficulty. A final one begins to appear

  • Ghost - That's a massive energy spike. Seems they're throwing some of their best at us!

A final horde of Goblins, Hobgoblins, Minotaurs and Annyx, Enforcive Mind attacks the Guardian. After a hectic engagement, all Vex are destroyed.

  • Ghost - That was intense. So, this is the Vex, huh? Get me a closer look, I need to really see what we're dealing with here.

{Cutscene}
The Ghost and Guardian inspect one of the destroyed Goblins, the former scanning its broken body. The Ghost finishes his scanning

  • Ghost - Like the reports said. Half machine, half organic, all tough and unyielding.

The Guardian inspects the Goblin further, spotting an Arc-laced wound on it

  • The Guardian - There's Light on this Goblin.
  • Ghost - Wait, you think these units were here before?

Ruffling is heard in the distance as a Ghost reveals itself from behind a bookshelf

  • Ghost - Huh, well that answers that...

The Guardian and Ghost approach their new partner and imbue light into them. A Guardian appears before them, looking away from them.

  • ??? - Okay. Well, that sucked. Alright, note to self: never inspect the quanto-phasic data tubes... again... for a day.
  • Ghost - Uh, hello?

The Warlock, shocked, spins around and aims at an equally startled Guardian before realizing the ally and lowering the weapon

  • ??? - Oh, hey. You must've been the one who got me back up. But what about-

The Warlock looks around, noticing the destroyed Vex around her

  • ??? - Ah, I see. You clearly did a better job than I did. But what kind of fool would interface with a conflux and not expect some kind of Vex response?
  • Ghost - Well, we were a bit curious.

A Hobgoblin starts to get back up behind the Guardian

  • Ghost - We were looking for a Guardian. Some contact to help us with a new operation on Venus.

The Hobgoblin prepares to fire

  • Ghost - Say would you happen to be-

The Warlock moves the Guardian out of the way and fires her Hand Cannon directly into the chest of the Hobgoblin, blowing the top half to pieces, leaving the lower half to shamble forwards before collapsing. She looks to the Guardian and starts holstering her weapon.

  • ??? - Ah, so you're the one Shaw told me about. I see you still got some teeth to cut. Alright, here's a little crash course for you: 1, aim for the chest of the Vex, that's where the unit is controlled itself. 2, always expect some sort of Vex response for anything, and I mean anything. 3, watch yourself out there, watch the cliffs, your corners, the ruins, everywhere, despite what you may think...

She looks to some of the destroyed Vex

  • ??? - The Vex are more crafty than you think. 4, know your limits and do not venture too deep into Vex territory before asking yourself 'is this really worth it'. And finally... just don't touch anything I've laid out. Don't want any data being altered by even the slightest of changes.

The Guardian and Ghost look at each other, somewhat puzzlingly

  • ??? - Follow all that, and I think we'll get along swimmingly! I believe you found my outpost, hence the rather rapid response here, so I assume you know where to find me after all this.

As the Warlock starts for the hole leading out of the Archive, she stops in her tracks and looks back to the Guardian, arm extended out

  • ??? - Oh, sorry, forgive my poor manners.
  • Alana Reyn - Alana Reyn, pleasure to meet you.

The Guardian shakes Alana's hand and the Warlock leaves, leaving the Guardian and Ghost alone in the Archive

  • Ghost - Huh, you know, I was expecting... more weird.
  • The Guardian - Guess we have to trust her experience, right?
  • Ghost - I guess.

The Guardian and Ghost start to leave the Archive and the mission ends.

Fixing the Network[edit]

  • Rendezvous with Alana Reyn and be briefed on the situation in the Ishtar Sink

"Looks like the Vex are a lot tougher than I thought. I see how they've become such a problem here. Well, thanks to our new friend, we've learned a couple of things... I guess. Well, it appears I'm missing some details on the situation here, and Alana is willing to give us the lay of the land. Let's hear her out, shall we?" - Ghost

Transcript[edit]

{Vendor Cutscene}

  • Alana Reyn - Again, sorry about earlier, not exactly a people person. Never have. Just not in my blood. Anyways, as you've no doubt encountered back there, the Vex are a bit more active now, even after we've torn them a proverbial new one over and over again in the past. Even the Cabal got a piece of the action way back when during the Red War. Granted, we should have expected the Vex to just, simply, come back up and continue their work, no matter the sheer losses they take. But here, it seems they've really kicked their operations into overdrive. Once, the Vex were divided into different subsects meant for specific goals but now... Now we have a consolidated force of them jumpstarting machinoformation across the world, intruding into the former Ishtar Collective and even waging outright war against some of the other inhabitants. I suspect they will achieve full control over the world and complete machinoformation by the end of the year if nothing is done about them. Now, I would love to crush them here and now, but, unfortunately, we can't do that without properly establishing a good enough foothold around the Sink. So, you will head out and make sure our patrol beacons are in working order and, if not, make the bastards that broke them pay before setting them back up. Maybe not in that order, but one could hope. Well, let's get cracking, Guardian!

Cutscene Ends

Field Testing[edit]

  • Help Alana Reyn reestablish a Patrol Zone in the Ishtar Sink and make sure the beacons are in working order

"We had a pretty good Patrol Network on Venus way back when we had a solid foothold on this planet, but, unfortunately, we don't have that anymore. Disgraceful, really. Good thing we can get it all set back up! One can imagine the good we could do with it all back in working order! Well, what are you waiting for? Get going! I'm itching for some data!" - Alana Reyn

Transcript[edit]

The Guardian starts in the Headlands facing the direction of Ember Caves

  • Alana Reyn - Alright! Alright! Let's get this operation going! So, we have operatives taking the eastern and northern portions of the Sink, so that leaves the western quadrant. Should be easy!

The Guardian reaches the Ember Caves

  • Ghost - Uh, Alana, we got some Fallen over here.
  • Alana Reyn - Ah, don't worry about it. We got an... "understanding" of sorts. They don't touch my stuff and I don't reduce them to ash. Talk about a perfect relationship, eh? Anyways, one of the beacons is acting up over there, go check it out will ya?

The Guardian inspects the Patrol Beacon

  • Alana Reyn - Oh, of course it's the faulty one. Just whack it.
  • Ghost - Hit this? A patrol beacon?
  • Alana Reyn - Did I stutter?

The Guardian melees the Patrol Beacon

  • Alana Reyn - There we are! Getting information as we speak. Alright... looks like we got some forces massing nearby. I guess our understanding isn't clear enough. Go teach them a lesson, will ya?

The Guardian is given a Kill Patrol mission, and begins eliminating the Fallen in the area. The Guardian kills 20 Fallen.

  • Alana Reyn - Nicely done. Looks like we got them in full retreat!

If the Guardian is a Titan

  • Alana Reyn - I didn't expect anything less, Titan. Well fought.

If the Guardian is a Hunter

  • Alana Reyn - Nicely done, Hunter! Just be sure to be cleaner next time.

If the Guardian is a Warlock

  • Alana Reyn - Hope you learned something, Warlock, even if it is just fighting.
  • Alana Reyn - Anyways, I think we are all set here. I got an irregularity around The Citadel, go check it out, will you?

The Guardian reaches the Citadel and finds a dilapidated Patrol Beacon

  • Ghost - Uh, looks like the beacon is fine.
  • Alana Reyn - Well, that's odd. Hmm... it's probably skewed, try to adjust it, will you?

The Guardian interacts with the beacon, slightly moving it

  • Ghost - Is it clear?
  • Alana Reyn - Nope. Still a little fuzzy, try worming it a little.

The Guardian interacts with the beacon again, slightly moving it

  • Ghost - How about now?
  • Alana Reyn - No, it got worse. Try pushing it some more.

The Guardian interacts with the beacon one last time, planting it down further

  • Ghost - Well?
  • Alana Reyn - Hmm. It is a bit fuzzy...
  • Ghost - Please no...
  • Alana Reyn - Oh, no no no. It's fine. I can accommodate for the skew. [...] Aaaaand we're good!
  • Ghost - Oh thank the Light.
  • Alana Reyn - Alright, let's see what we got here. Hmm. Ah! Looks like some data was moved to a couple of Vex units. Don't know what, it seems to be heavily encrypted. Try and pluck their cores and transmat them my way.

The Guardian is given an Item Patrol, and begins collecting the Inert Reception Cores from eliminated Vex. The Guardian collects 7.

  • Alana Reyn - Many thanks, Guardian! I can't wait to start digging into these Cores and seeing what juicy secrets lie within! Hehehe. Alright, I think we're good here. So, if you are able you ca- Wait, the hell?
  • Ghost - Alana?
  • Alana Reyn - One of my beacons just stopped working. That shouldn't happen, not under my watch. Go check it out.

The Guardian investigates the spot, only to find where the beacon would be to be missing

  • Ghost - Uh, there's nothing here.
  • Alana Reyn - Wha- what do you mean nothing is there?
  • Ghost - I mean, there is nothing here, Alana. The beacon is gone.
  • Alana Reyn - The beacon is go- [distantly] ugh, I spent an hour meticulously setting that one up. Graaaagh! Some Vex unit must have snatched it so it could investigate it. Alright, new objective! Find that dead piece of scrap and blow it to smithereens!
  • Ghost - Woah. Okay, then. Will do Alana. Let's get going, Guardian.

The Guardian follows the marker deep into The Juncture, eliminating the scattered Vex within. The Guardian sees a beacon atop a pile of Vex scrap and approaches it. Vex teleporters activate all around the room.

  • Alana Reyn - Huh? Guardian, watch out! The Vex are sending a Wyvern! Be careful!

A Major Wyvern, called Pikros, Vicious Mind, enters the fray with a light detachment of Goblins and engages the Guardian. After a hectic battle, the Guardian eliminates Pikros.

  • Alana Reyn - Woah. That was... I'm sorry. I... should have expected that from the Vex. And I shouldn't have sent you in there alone.
  • Ghost - ...it's alright Alana. We're fine, that's all that matters. And one wouldn't usually suspect the Vex to do this, right?
  • Alana Reyn - Maybe, but I knew they could do this. *Sigh* Well, it's past now. Get that beacon and get out of there, will you? We don't want the Vex to try that again, right?
  • Ghost - Of course.

The Guardian picks up the beacon and heads back outside and plants it back into place

  • Ghost - Beacon set. Any wiggling we have to do?
  • Alana Reyn - Nope, you're all good. I'm getting a good signal from it and getting good data too! Nicely done! Looks like we're getting greens across the board. And here come all the requests! Well, I'd call that a job well done. Return to me when you can, Guardian!
  • Ghost - Will do. Let's go, Guardian.

Mission Ends

Catching Up[edit]

  • Rendezvous with Alana back at the Headlands and devise a plan to quell the rising Vex threat

"Beautiful! Our patrol network is back in working order, and now we can safely and more efficiently navigate the perils of the Ishtar Sink once again. But that's not what we are really here for, eh? We need to find a way to crush the Vex before they can be a problem. And I think I know just the way to do it..." - Alana Reyn

Transcript[edit]

  • Alana Reyn - Hmm... 4.25 Terawatts just passed through the Citadel. Should probably note that for la- Oh, hello! Thanks to you, the entire network is in perfect order. Because of that, I can now effectively track everything, living or not, in this quadrant. Well, almost. Despite everything, I don't have a good read on where the Vex are getting a good supply of reinforcements and data. I have a hunch, but we first need to prove it. Even then, if the hunch is true, we're going to HAVE to check this place out. That place being an old Ishtar research camp on the Academy outskirts. It should have the equipment to tap into Vex systems and the data to corroborate it with. I would have investigated that place earlier, but... well, I got killed. That, and now, I'm in charge of coordinating operations on Venus. So, you're the next best bet to check it out! Besides, you've proven to be most effective against the Vex so far, so I have full confidence in you. So, do me a favor, and crush some Vex for me, will you?

A Tide Rising[edit]

  • Find the Ishtar Dig Site in the old Vex ruins and scrounge for any critical information on the Vex and where they are coming from

"The Ishtar Academy has been studying the Vex ruins for years during the Golden Age. They may have dug too deep and invoked their wrath, but such is the price of knowledge, I guess. So, if there's any information on where these Vex are pouring out from, it should be somewhere over there. Just know that it is deep in Vex territory, and thus, they should have a bunch of surprises for anyone that happens to amble over there. Keep your head on a swivel and a hand on your gun, and you should be fine." - Alana Reyn

Transcript[edit]

Mission begins

  • Alana Reyn - Alright, let’s get this operation going! First, we're going to need a Vex Core for this site to scan. It'll sift through the data far better than I could and give us a good read on the situation in the Sink.
  • Ghost - A Vex Core? That should be easy to find!
  • Alana Reyn - Oh, no. Not just any Vex Core. The Vex aren't going to trust a standard Goblin with the data we need. We need the core of an Axis Mind.
  • Ghost - Oh. Well, that won't be easy to find.
  • Alana Reyn - Fortunately, I'm pinging a sizable Vex signature on the cliffs. Should have the authorization we need.
  • Ghost - Talk about convenient. Let's get it, Guardian.

The Guardian reaches the Ishtar Cliffs and encounters a large contingent of Vex. They eliminate them wave by wave and finally encounter an Ultra Cyclops, Palios, Corrective Sentinel

  • Ghost - There the Vex Mind! Let's take it down!

The Guardian destroys Palios and claims it's Mind Core

  • Ghost - Whoa. I'm sensing a lot of data still being processed in this thing.
  • Alana Reyn - Perfect! Means we got a prime specimen for research at the site. Onwards!

The Guardian progresses further down the coast towards the Waking Ruins

  • Ghost - Incredible. To think that these machines aren't as lifeless as they seem. To think organisms like these could be capable of turning worlds into machines and even experiment with time.
  • Alana Reyn - Heh. Haha!
  • Ghost - Alana?
  • Alana Reyn - Oh, nothing. Just something I said myself.

The Guardian reaches the Waking Ruins

  • Alana Reyn - You're passing the Vault of Glass, Guardian. A place older than humanity itself and home of the Vex' most safeguarded experiments. It's also zealously guarded by the Collective. So, don't stick around long, will you?

The Guardian reached a cave on the other side of the area and enters Campus 9. They progress further and a Darkness Zone falls.

  • Ghost - Looks like the Fallen have set up shop here.
  • Alana Reyn - I highly doubt they'll let us work in peace. Clear them out!

The Guardian eliminates the Fallen crew one by one before Skiffs arrive and begin offloading reinforcements. After a few waves, the Guardian is assailed by a Dusk Pilferer Captain and the Captain's Guard Servitor. The Guardian eliminates the attackers and the Darkness Zone falls.

  • Ghost - Whew! I think we drove them off.
  • Alana Reyn - Good! Now, let's start digging into the Vex Core, before it starts to atrophy.

The Guardian lets their Ghost interface with the terminal inside. Another Darkness Zone falls.

  • Vex Core - [Distressed Vex Sounds]
  • Alana Reyn - Oh no. The Vex Mind is calling for help. You've got incoming! Dig in and get ready.

Waves of Vex begin to spawn around the Campus and begin marching on the Ghost. The Guardian defends the Ghost, staying in proximity to him as he works through the core.

If a Vex unit reaches the Campus

  • Ghost - They're disrupting the connection! Guardian, get them out of here!

20% Completion is reached

  • Ghost - I'm getting a lot of noise here. A lot of disorganized information on "Hezen" and "Aphix".
  • Alana Reyn - Damn. Must be atrophying now. Forward me some of tha information. I'll try to help you.

33% is reached. A series of Oracles spawn around the and progress is halted.

  • Ghost - [pained sound] Something is creating a lot of noise! It hurts if I try to keep reading into it.
  • Alana Reyn - The Vex must have brought in some Oracles then. They won't be far. Break them, and you should be good.

The Guardian destroys the Oracles and brings Ghost back to the terminal. Harpies and Elites start to join the fray 50% is reached.

  • Ghost - I'm getting a lot of queries from a lot of signals from all over the place.
  • Alana Reyn - I think I may have something. It's encrypted, but some more interrogation might get me what I need.

67% is reached. Another group of Oracles are spawned in and progress is halted.

  • Ghost - Ugh. It's happening again. More Oracles, Guardian. Take them out.

The Oracles are destroyed and Ghost is returned to the terminal. Major Minotaurs join in and an Ultra Hydra, Eleftherotis, Unshackled Mind arrives to destroy the assailants. 80% is reached.

  • Ghost - I've got a lot of headers here. Some data on a Nexus, some on the Vault. Even some file on a missing… Forest? Anything on your end Alana?
  • Alana Reyn - Nothing solid so far. But I don't like what I've got now either. Keep the heat on them Guardian! We're almost done here.

100% is reached

  • Ghost - I think we have everything we need. Let's clear everything out.

The Vex are destroyed and the Darkness Zone falls

  • Ghost - Nicely done, Guardian. Now, I had no luck on my end, how about you, Alana?
  • Alana Reyn - It's exactly as I suspected. The Vex have established a new Vex Mind as the master of the Nexus.
  • Ghost - The Nexus? Like what I combed through. What does that mean?
  • Alana Reyn - It means we only have weeks before they fully convert this world beyond repair, no matter what we do to counter it. I didn't think that they could have it fully repaired in such a short time. The only way we can stop this now is destroying the Mind controlling the Nexus. Meet back with me as soon as you can. We have to put a stop to this.

Mission End

Assembling a Key[edit]

  • The Vex are pushing operations into overdrive. Assemble a key so you can stem the flow of Vex and gain access to the Nexus.

"It only took a matter of days for the Vex to turn one of our worlds into one of their machine planets. If we don't stop the Vex here and now, Venus will meet the same fate. I have a plan, but its going to need you to collect enough Vex data to tap into their network and draw out one of their bigger frames so we can actually access the Nexus itself. Keep an eye out for some wandering Minds and try to sabotage their convergence operations if you can. There's a lot at stake here, but I wouldn't trust you with this if I didn't think you could do it. Best of luck to you." - Alana Reyn

Objectives[edit]

  • Eliminate a Vex High Value Target in either The Citadel, Waking Ruins, or Ishtar Cliffs
  • Complete a Spire Integration Public Event
  • Complete 3 Patrols in the Citadel, Waking Ruins and/or the Ishtar Cliffs

Transcript[edit]

The Guardian spawns after the completion of A Tide Rising

  • Alana Reyn - Alright, I have formulated a plan that just might see us marginally safely breach the Nexus and also eliminate another cornerstone of the Vex Network; kill two birds with one stone, if you will. If we are to put an end to the Vex's machinoformation operations across Venus, we're going to need polyphasic access codes from some of their peripheral subminds, cause a feedback loop in their calcified Radiolarian resonance harmonies and establish a false proactive response strategy within their network so- (...) You didn't understand any of that, did you? Right, not as well-versed in the Vex yet. *Ahem* Kill a Vex lieutenant, destroy their confluxes and cause some mayhem in their territory. Simple enough, right?

The Guardian eliminates a Vex High Value Target within the Citadel, Waking Ruins or Ishtar Cliffs

  • Ghost - Interesting. I should have thought the Vex would have a lot of security measures to protect some of their more precious of secrets, but it appears that they went above and beyond here. I'm detecting a constant stream frequencies creating an impossible amount of variable numbers as if... as if they were recursively cycling through every sequence for every door they can access.
  • Alana Reyn - Neat, isn't it? The Vex are capable of cycling though billions upon billions of possible codes in microseconds and apply those numbers to any designated frequency, creating a nigh impossible firewall to breach conventionally. Well, not quite impossible anymore. Now that you have that, you should be able to gain an audience with a more powerful Vex mind. One that juuuuust might happen to regulate the flow of resources onto this planet.
  • Ghost - Cutting their supply lines while we are at it? You cheeky devil.
  • Alana Reyn - Cheeky? I just HOPE that will happen.

The Guardian discovers a Spire Integration Public Event

  • Alana Reyn - Perfect! Well, not for the integrity of the world, anyways, but the Vex are trying to establish a Conflux here to accelerate their conversion operations here. But if we prevent that and smash that spire to pieces, that just might throw the network into enough disarray to give us the window we need and splice conversion codes into our greater mind core here and dupe the Vex into thinking we are another maniple of the Nexus Mind. Either way, that Spire's got to go. Hold your ground!

The Spire event is successfully completed

  • Ghost - Aha! Spire smashed! Alana, have we done some damage to the Vex?
  • Alana Reyn - Hear for your self while your there. The Vex are in full retreat here and they just don't know what to do now, the Integrator subminds are confused and in a stalemate deciding a response. Aaaand, we got ourselves the data we need to pretend we are one of them. Great work!

The Guardian completes 3 Patrols

  • Alana Reyn - Alright, we've done enough damage to the Vex here! My worms are reporting that the Vex are already concocting a proactive response to your presence... mainly here! Perfect! They'll be in for one sore surprise.

Once all 3 objectives are completed

  • Alana Reyn - That's it, Guardian! Everything's in place and the Vex are now dealing with a suitable enough distraction. All we need to do now is hunt ourselves a Gate Lord. Lucky for us, I just happen to know where to find one and how to draw it out. Rendezvous back at camp and get ready. Let's jump on this opportunity while we can.

Gatekeeping[edit]

  • Stem the flow of resources and reinforcements, and eliminate a Gate Lord

"Gate Lords are an essential cornerstone to a Vex invasion. It is they who ensure that Vex gates are safe from assault and direct the flow of material and manpower throughout the network. We eliminate that, we stop the flow of resources. I think. If nothing, than we take its permissions and access the Nexus and finally put an end to this. Best of luck to you." - Alana Reyn

Transcript[edit]

Mission Begins

  • Alana Reyn - Alright, first things first, we must use our newfound permissions to gain an audience with our Gate Lord friend. Find an active Conflux and we'll be in business.
  • Ghost - Got it. I've got a lock on a signature by the Citadel. Let's go, Guardian.

The Guardian navigates towards the Citadel, bypassing the Ember Caves

  • Ghost - I'm pulling up a file on Gate Lords now, since we're taking one on. 3 stories tall. Highly advanced models. Protect the realms the Vex keep locked out of- time?
  • Alana Reyn: Correct! If something like that doesn't give us permission to enter the Nexus, then I don't know what else will!
  • Ghost - That's... not what I'm most concerned about.

The Guardian enters the Citadel and approaches the Conflux tucked away in the corner of the area

  • Ghost - There it is!
  • Alana Reyn - Alright, find the Gate Lord in the network and stir it. Thataway, it will be in a position to expect your presence. Which ordinarily would be bad, but that's the only way we're getting it out.

The Guardian approaches the Conflux and deploys the Ghost to scan it

  • Ghost - Whoa. And you have the hard job? Got it. Looks like we have an audience in the Endless Steps.
  • Alana Reyn - Excellent! Happy hunting, Guardian!

The Guardian heads for the Endless Steps and approaches Campus 9

  • Alana Reyn - Wait. Ghost, did you use a Quantum Data Sheathe to bypass the material transit security network as you arranged a meeting with the Gate Lord?
  • Ghost - A... what?
  • Alana Reyn - Oh no.

As the Guardian enters Campus 9, they are allowed to rally and approach a Gate, which shortly activates, summoning Vex reinforcements

  • Ghost - The Gates, they're activating!
  • Alana Reyn - I'm detecting various energy spikes around the area! The Vex are locking down the Endless Steps!

The Guardian destroys the gates and their reinforcements

  • Ghost - The barrier fizzled out! They share the same frequencies. Destroy the gates, and we can bypass the lockdown! Let's go!

The Guardian progresses through Campus 9 and disables the scattered Vex Gate, one by one. The Guardian reaches the more open area of Campus 9.

  • Alana Reyn - That's a lot of signals I'm getting over there.
  • Ghost - Then we got a lot of gates to smash. Their funeral. Let's get 'em!

The Guardian destroys all the scattered Vex gates and disables the last barrier, dropping the Darkness Zone. The Guardian continues through the path and enters the Endless Steps

  • Ghost - There it is. That's where we are to meet our new Gate Lord friend.
  • Alana Reyn - Well, let's not keep it waiting.

The Guardian progresses through, eliminating the Vex responses and finally reaching the Sync Plate.

  • Ghost - Looks like we need to call it forth here.

The Guardian rallies and stands on the Sync Plate until its full charge, activating the Vex Gate and a Darkness Zone.

  • Ghost - Here we go...
  • Alana Reyn - Good luck, Guardian.

Maldron, Gate Lord appears in the portal and fully assembles before landing on the ground. The Guardian battles the Gate Lord and its reinforcements until it loses two-thirds of its health. The Guardian is trapped in a detainment bubble.

  • Ghost - [grunt of pain] W-What is happening?
  • Alana Reyn - Guardian? Ghost? What's going on over there?

Maldron raises its hand and the screen fades to white as the Guardian and Ghost are teleported elsewhere

  • Alana Reyn - Guar-!

The comms are reduced to static as the Guardian and Ghost now find themselves within the Vex Network and out of the detainment sphere, and Darkness Zone

  • Ghost - Are you alright? Where are we?

The Guardian progresses further and overlooks the vast network and a perilous platforming section before them

  • Ghost - Is this- We're inside the Vex Network! The Gate Lord must have brought us here to ensure it fights us alone. Be careful Guardian.

The Guardian carefully navigates the platforming section, eliminating Harpy units attempting to blast them in the process. The Guardian reaches larger platforms and eliminates the Vex around there. They progress further and further.

  • Alana Reyn - [Static]
  • Ghost - Alana!? Lost it again, but it is getting stronger. I think we're getting closer to an exit.

The Guardian progresses further, navigating ledge after ledge, occupied platform after occupied platform until they reach an overlook, above a circular arena, containing a pit of Radiolaria and a circular gate in the back, walled off by Vex mesh. The Guardian rallies and descends down the lift, seeing a gate activating in the back.

  • Ghost - There's our way out! Looks like the Gate Lord is here to challenge us again! Time to finish it off.

Maldron runs forth and enters the pool. It ascends into the air as radiolaria consumes it similar to that of the Sanctified Mind.

  • Ghost - Wait, what is it-

After a short period, the cascade falls and Maldron appears repaired and modified with new ordnance and armor.

  • Ghost - Oh, great. Well, lets get at it again!

The Guardian battles the modified Gate Lord and its reinforcements, avoiding its new abilities and disabling its defenses. As more and more of the digital arena is disintegrated, the battle between the two becomes more hectic as cover vanishes and more reinforcements pour into the area. As Maldron reaches the last sliver of its health, it detains the Guardian once again and draws them before the Vex Gate.

  • Ghost - [Strains] N-no! It's going to-

Alana Reyn enters through the portal, crackling with Arc energy

  • Alana Reyn - Hey! Scrapheap!

As Maldron turns around, Alana unleashes a Chaos Reach blast, destroying it and freeing the Guardian from detainment. Alana collapses on the ground, exhausted.

  • Ghost - Alana?
  • Alana Reyn - Guardian. Ghost. I-

A cacophonous shriek is heard, and the Vex Net turns red. The arena begins to disintegrate.

  • Alana Reyn - RUN!

The Guardian and Ghost flee through the portal before the area disintegrates. They return to the Endless Steps with Alana and watch as the Gate collapses on itself. Alana rises from the ground exhausted.

  • Ghost - We got it! The gate's closed!
  • Alana Reyn - I thought you were...
  • Ghost - Alana?
  • Alana Reyn - I- I'm sorry. I shouldn't have sent you in alone. I should never have sent you in alone. I said it myself that the Vex are-
  • Ghost - Alana, slow down. We couldn't have known. We've never seen the Vex do something like that before-
  • Alana Reyn - I KNOW! I- I know. I still shouldn't have done it regardless. I've been rash and reckless, endangering myself and others for the sake of stopping them. I've already lost Guardians to these creatures. I refuse to lose another to them.
  • Ghost - ...but you didn't lose us. Rash and obsessive as you are, there's a reason the Vanguard chose you to be overseer of operations here on Venus. Clearly you are skilled, seasoned and know the Vex enough to give us insight on them. And you saved us, too, as fast as you could. You're willing to drop everything to save a Guardian and know the Vex in and out enough to give guidance to Guardians across. You don't need to beat yourself up, you just need to see your shortcomings and do better.
  • Alana Reyn - I... thank you, Ghost. You're right. I can do better. I will do better. And... I'm glad you are alright.
  • Ghost - Thank you, Alana. Now, with the Gate Lord's access permissions in tow, we can finally put an end to the Mind behind the Nexus, especially now that its work will grind to a halt.
  • Alana Reyn - Wait, you got the codes before it collapsed? Heh, haha! I knew, deep down, that I would like you two! Hahahaha! [Sighs] Sorry about that, especially after that talk. Meet me back at camp, you two. You're right, it's time to put an end to this.

Mission ends

  • Ghost - Huh. Well, that was quick. Well, let's not keep her waiting, Guardian. Let's save Venus.

Strike Down[edit]

  • Rendezvous back at camp and prepare for an attack on the Nexus

I hope you're ready for this Guardian. The Vex were not prepared for the past assaults on the Nexus. I highly doubt they are willing to make the same mistake again. Fortunately, I have a plan and a team ready to breach it. Just need to run it by you first. I won't let you run in without warning or insight again. - Alana Reyn

Transcript[edit]

{Vendor Cutscene}

  • Alana Reyn - Heya. I hope you are ready to strike against the Vex again, because we will not get an opportunity like this again. The Vex are well entrenched and emplaced around the Nexus, especially now that we smashed one of their Gates. This time, we can't trick them out of there, so expect some fierce opposition and... well, as we learned from that Gate Lord, it appears the Vex have prepared some new tricks for their advanced models, so expect the unexpected when you face off against the Mind at the Nexus. I'll be on comms to support and aid you to the best of my ability but always remember, expect a Vex response to anything, watch yourself out there, and trust your team. And if things get hairy out there, I can always run back out there to teach those mechanical freaks a lesson. But I have every bit of confidence you can smash them together. Best of luck, Guardian. We're all holding out for you.

The Nexus[edit]

  • Strike at the heart of the Vex conversion operations on Venus while it is weakened and you have access. Complete The Nexus

Alana is right, Guardian. We have never encountered Gate Lords with that sort of power before until it dragged us into the Network. If that is what a mere Gate Lord is capable of, I shudder to think what their more advanced minds are capable of; what a Mind in charge of converting a planet is capable of. Well, we have a team now, and an obsessive Warlock, at our side, so it should be no big deal. We got this. It's time to keep Venus from falling. -Ghost

Transcript[edit]

The Guardian fireteam spawns within the Ishtar Commons, facing the entrance to N/Gen Branch

  • Ghost - Alana, we're linked up with the fireteam.
  • Alana Reyn - Perfect. Remember, the Vex are well entrenched here, and are expecting the worst from us. So expect the worst from them and destroy the Mind at the heart of the Nexus. We neither won't get a better shot at this nor have the time to wait for another. Good luck, team.

The fireteam reaches the N/Gen Branch and encounters multiple Vex squads

  • Ghost - Oh, well, that's not ideal. It seems the Vex have locked down the area.
  • Alana Reyn - They've matched the frequencies to the security systems here. Irreversibly damaging their more advanced units' broadcast systems should cause an overload in the signal and lift the lockdown.
  • Ghost - Smash their big units. Got it.
  • Alana Reyn - Hey, now you're catching on!

The fireteam hunts down the scattered Malignant Minotaurs and eliminates them. The door on the upper level opens and the fireteam progresses towards Dig Site 4

  • Ghost - The way is open. Seems the "matching frequencies" has been terminated.
  • Alana Reyn - Nice! Although it seems we have a Tertia Omicron Level Alert across the site stirring the local Vex. Seems like that frequency disruption triggered some sort of facility-wide failsafe.
  • Ghost - So... we got more Vex on the way?
  • Alana Reyn - That's putting it lightly.

The fireteam reaches Dig Site 4 and eliminates the Vex barring their path. They reach the main courtyard leading to the Nexus, as a barrier blocks further access.

  • Ghost - There's the barrier. Of course things couldn't be so simple.
  • Alana Reyn - Of course not. Looks like its going to also require a Radiolarian harmonic redirect on top of Gate Lord permissions to access the Nexus.
  • Ghost - I'm sorry?
  • Alana Reyn - [Sighs] Arc ball, to another charging port.
  • Ghost - Well, you could have just said that.

The fireteam activate the Sync plate in the middle, and begin moving charges to different receptacles across the Dig Site while fighting Vex reinforcements. The fireteam eventually moves all charges across the site and defeats Coyus, Nexial Archivist, finally disabling the barrier.

  • Ghost - Whew. Barrier is down!
  • Alana Reyn - Thank the Traveler that worked. Seems the Vex think Maldron is still kicking.
  • Ghost - Heh. Stupid machines.
  • Alana Reyn - Not stupid. Brilliant and adaptive. Just suckers.

The fireteam enters the dig site and finally reaches the Nexus proper, overlooking a transformed chasm and confronting a horde of Vex reinforcements

  • Ghost - Wow. These tunnels go on for miles. It seems the Vex really have been working hard on transforming this place.
  • Alana Reyn - All the more reason to put a stop to this. Venus is going to look a lot more like this if that Mind is allowed to still work in the Nexus.
  • Ghost - Speaking of which, I'm detecting a massive surge of energy nearby. We're close.

The fireteam eliminates the massive Vex squad and finally overlooks the Nexus, seeing the Mind hard at work within.

  • Ghost - Here it is! The Nexus.
  • Alana Reyn - Time to end this. Draw out the Nexus Mind.

The fireteam dives into the Nexus and eliminates the scattered Vex units within.

  • Ghost - The Nexus. It's opening!
  • Alana Reyn - Be careful, and best of luck.

Synklinos, the Nexus Mind assembles in the center of the arena and begins its attack on the Guardian fireteam. A third of its health is lost and it is enveloped by an immune shield. The Aegis appears.

  • Ghost - Gah, the Mind has shielded itself. No way we're bypassing it with the firepower we have.
  • Alana Reyn - (...) Is that... Guardians, grab that shield! Use its power against that Hydra!

The Guardians charge up the Aegis and use its super against Synklinos, breaking its shield.

  • Alana Reyn - So it's true... Guardians, keep that shield by your side and use its power!

The Guardians continue to fight Synklinos. The Nexus Mind marks an area for disintegration.

  • Alana Reyn - Baryonic decoupling? Guardians! Avoid those zones! The Nexus Mind is trying to disintegrate you!

The Guardians avoid the Disintegration zones while fighting Synklinos. After once again breaking the Mind's shield, the fireteam unleashes their firepower against the Hydra and avoids its barrages and disintegration zones, and finally destroys it.

  • Ghost - We did it! We did it! Alana, the Nexus Mind is destroyed and the Vex are in retreat!
  • Alana Reyn - I'm detecting machinoformation operations stalling across the Ishtar Sink. The collective minds in charge of this planet are in chaos. While the Vex will still infest this world, at least it won't belong to them in the end. Well done Fireteam!

Ishtar's Salvation[edit]

  • Machinoformation efforts have stalled across Venus. Return to Alana Reyn for your reward.

"That was intense. We have had reports in the past that the Vex were upgrading their more essential units, but nothing like this. Seems like they're getting resourceful. But we did it. The Nexus Mind is destroyed and Venus is saved! I think. Either way, Alana is pleased, and would like to speak with us. Let's not keep her waiting." - Ghost

{Vendor Cutscene}

  • Alana Reyn - Well, looks like my advice paid off after all! [Chuckles] Kidding. Kinda. The Vex are an intransigent race. Losing their Nexus will not stop them, and they will find a way to fill the Nexus again. But I believe it's safe to say, as long as you are around, not on our watch! Shaw told me all about Navôta, Deksis and S.A.B.E.R., and, well, I just couldn't believe it until I saw it. You've got potential, and you got the Light to back it, Guardian. All I'll say is, do not squander it. Remember who we fight for. But, I'm sure you already knew that. Anyways, Venus still has problems that need far more practical solutions to solve. I'll leave you to solve 'em to your hearts desire! And should a larger threat show that I may need help with, I'll be sure to give you a call. Until then, Guardian? I'd love to see you work.
