Youngest daughter of Kharyx, the Navigator's Lullaby and Oryx, the Taken King |
- "Khiraia, it means 'Beautiful'. You gave me this name, my King. And it is the first and last thing you ever did for me. From that day, all I knew was what I was taught at the edge of a blade. The Deep, it is the way. The Bladed Path, all others have abandoned it. Your eldest sister flees to the Sky, while your younger cries for your dead body, unable to accept the Sword Logic once it carves away at her instead. And now my mother uses the Sky and twisted blasphemies! Hark, my father. Your dynasty does not end here. It has just begun. The weak and defiant have been and will be expunged. From there, I will be your true successor. Crota, Ir Anûk, Ir Halak, Alak-Hul, all burned away. A new age of the Osmium Dynasty begins! And the tablets of time shall remember the name Khiraia! Aiat."
- — Khiraia remembering her father
Khiraia, Kharyx's Trusted is the youngest daughter of Oryx, the Taken King.
Biography[edit]
Ever-Present Lust for Power[edit]
- "I name you Khiraia. It means 'Beautiful'."
- — Oryx, the Taken King
Khiraia was born to Kharyx and Oryx long after their previous youngest, Nokris had been banished and their eldest Crota had been thrown into the Vex Network. As a young Acolyte, Khiraia would be present as a bodyguard to the meeting between Savathûn, the Witch Queen and her father where she left to become different, and later Xivu Arath, God of War as well. Learning of the Hope Eater, witnessing her elder sisters and their magic, and most importantly her father's utter power, Khiraia would grow hungry for power as well. She'd begin this campaign when she became a Wizard and pledged allegiance to the brood Oryx had formed known as the Spite of the King. From there she'd quickly rise to a high rank by becoming the mate of a powerful Prince known as Kartos. Together they'd become the leaders of the Spite of the King, with Khiraia as its Brood Mother.
However, Kartos would go against Khiraia's guidance and lead their brood into a war against the Blood of Oryx and the Warpriest alongside the High War's Herald. After countless defeats, the High War's Herald would be punished for his weakness by Oryx and Kartos would be butchered by the Warpriest and he'd claim Khiraia and what remained of her brood for himself. Despite her hatred for the Warpriest for killing her mate, she realized playing along would further her desire for strength. Since the brood was now without leadership, Oryx would give the brood to Kharyx to lead while he ventured to the Sol System to avenge Crota's death. Karaia would stay with her mother at the orders of Oryx so her and the Warpriest could grow different and stronger upon reunification. Karaia would then serve as one of Kharyx's most valued magicians and studiers of the Darkness.
Scarring Ritual[edit]
- "He forged this path, and I will be the second to walk it."
- — Khiraia
During her time with Kharyx, Khiraia would seek the depths of the Darkness, and unlock many powerful abilities. She'd even discover how to become the God morph her father and his siblings had and as such would begin the ritual. However, the ritual would go awry and did not complete, leaving her with malformed wings and a large deformed arm. Khiraia would hide these features from her mother and the brood underneath the robes she often wore, hoping they wouldn't catch on to her lust to follow in her father's footsteps.
Seeking Justice[edit]
- "Nokris blasphemed because he was jealous. Crota failed because was prideful. Oryx fell because he was vengeful. And now you let emotions cloud your walk down the Bladed Path as well? You forget what our god taught us. The Sky is to be consumed! Your communion and use of it is blasphemy. Your acknowledgement of such, yet failure to act proves your vengeance as too strayed from our King's will [...] I will not stand for this, my Queen. No true disciple of the King of Shapes will. And those I will find."
- — Khiraia upon finding out about the nature of the Echo of Vengeance
Khiraia would accompany her brood to Sol to avenge Oryx and like the others, would become discouraged upon the War against the Witness's conclusion and all of the Sol Hive broods fracturing. However upon Kharyx receiving new power, she too would swear the end of the Guardians and all traitor Hive.
However as the war raged on, Khiraia would be lured out by Savathûn, who'd teach her the truth about the Echo of Vengeance's nature. That it was of both Light and Dark. Khiraia would confront Kharyx of this truth, and the latter would acknowledge such, but say it was a mandatory sacrifice for their vengeance. Khiraia, refusing to make concessions with her father's logic, would swear this would be repaid in time and leave her. She'd stay loyal to Kharyx, however behind her back would ally with The Coalition in hopes to bringing down her mother. During the final battle between the Final Queen of Pain and The Guardian, a strange voice would give her the push needed to assist and together Kharyx would be defeated. Khiraia would then attempt to kill the Guardian in a rage after realizing she too had made a concession with the Light. Once she was defeated, Khiraia would warn The Guardian that the alliance did not make them friends and the Spite of the King would continue their skirmishes as the Sword Logic demands and in time justice would be delivered. She'd retreat to her throne world to lick her wounds and look for a way to find forgiveness in her long deceased father's eyes.
Some time after this she'd dissuade a Lightbearer Knight from the Lucent Brood to join her faction as her mate. This Knight is named Saktal and currently he and Khiraia are in hiding, rebuilding their devastated brood.
Personality and Traits[edit]
- "Speak not of right and wrong to me, Sky-thing. I know the lies, I know the hypocrisies - I know the failures. I know it all. And it means nothing. My father was no foolish madman. Whether he could prove the Final Shape or not, I will. Speak to me again if you desire death."
- — Khiraia to Ikora Rey
Khiraia is a fundamentalist with Hive culture. She finds any exceptions that her father did not personally approve of or did himself as heresy and takes harshly to any committed. While she was just a Princess, she mostly kept the to shadows and away from battle, allowing the brood to feed her Worm via tribute. During this time she'd study the Darkness and find ways to further their power within it.
As a god, Khiraia is nearly the opposite of her mother in that she is a cruel matriarch who seeks for the Sword Logic and her rule to be only thing that determines reality. She also is an opportunist who will do or say anything to get what she wants. The Vanguard warns to never parlay with anyone of Khiraia's brood without substantial reason to as her lies and deceptions are only ever surpassed by her aunt's. They believe if she was somehow able to drag a Lightbearing Knight away from the Lucent Brood, she can convince nearly anyone of anything. She is also is excellent illusionist who often uses her deformed body and potent Soulfire magic to mess with the mind just as much as the body.
She hopes in time to forge a new morph that is not a God-Knight, not a Witch Queen, but a new morph that will not only fix her deformities, but give her the ability to drown all who oppose her in Darkness.
