65 Cybele is an asteroid in the asteroid belt.

History

Following the Collapse, the Awoken colonized the asteroid and developed it into a key military fortress. In the closing days of the Reef Wars, Skolas, Wolf Kell marshaled his remaining forces to launch a final, desperate attack on 65 Cybele known as the Cybele Uprising. His plan was leaked to the Awoken ahead of time by Variks, the Loyal, who had become disillusioned with the House of Wolves' cause due to Skolas' brutal methods. When Skolas attacked the fortress, the bulk of the Reef's armada was waiting for him. The Cybele Uprising resulted in Skolas' capture and imprisonment in the Prison of Elders, and brought the Reef Wars to an end.

Trivia

Von Steinheil elected to name it "Maximiliana" after the reigning monarch Maximilian II of Bavaria. At the time, asteroids were conventionally given classical names, and a number of astronomers protested this contemporary appellation. The name Cybele was chosen instead, referring to the Phrygian goddess of the earth.
