Philosopher who dreamed of the Black Garden |
- "The Garden grows in both directions. It grows into tomorrow and yesterday. The red flowers bloom forever."
- — Pujari[1]
Pujari was a Warlock Thanatonaut whose studies provided insight on the more arcane parts of the universe. In particular, they received a vision of the Black Garden when they drowned at the Shores of Time.[1] Pujari also believed that the Darkness was the physical manifestation of evil, derived from the corruption of the Golden Age.[2]
Not much else is known about their life, other than they died a final death sometime before the events of The Taken King.[3]
Legacy[edit]
- "Purity of purpose compels—to see evil and defend those who cannot defend themselves is righteous, but to assume that this act of defense confers righteousness upon us and villainy upon our opponents is a fallacy. It is a slippery slope."
- — Ikora Rey[4]
Years after Pujari's death, their philosophy would be reexamined and ultimately deemed a fallacy by Ikora Rey. She acknowledged that attributing a moral valence to the Darkness used to be a compelling view in line with the attitudes in the Tower and the Last City at large, but at the current state of knowledge, Pujari's dreams and comprehensions of Darkness should rather be attributed to the being known as the Witness.[4]
Members of the fringe faction of Symmetry, devoted to the teachings of Ulan-Tan, do not seem to have a favorable view of Pujari's philosophy either.[5]
Quotes[edit]
- "Your light drives your armor. Do not speak of yourself as separate from the plate." - Pujari, Transcript XV[6]
- "Consider the word: bond. Remember, as you wield this power, that you are not alone." - Pujari, The Transcripts[7]
- "You cannot control the enemy. You can control yourself. The real victory lies within." - Pujari, Transcript VII[8]
- "The mark's just pretty cloth. What matters is what it stands for." - Pujari, Transcript IX[9]
- "All Light has a source: a fire, a filament, a star. Battle is how we seek that origin." - Pujari, The Transcripts[10]
- "To ignore the City's peril is to sequester oneself from truth." - Pujari, The Transcripts[11]
Trivia[edit]
- The Legendary Helmet Spearhead Type 0 has an amusing flavor-text featuring Purjari and Wei Ning: "PUJARI-WEI RATIO: colloquial. Amount of time Warlocks spend planning battles versus time Titans spend winning them."
- During the exotic quest for No Time To Explain, "Not Forged in Light", Lakshmi-2 commands our Guardian to fight the Groundskeeper in the Black Garden. During the mission, they find an artifact Lakshmi describes as "a ring with the symbol of the Warlock Pujari" and says it has been "pulled through time". She also confirms that Pujari died a final death.[3]
- Pujari means priest in the regions of south and central India.
