The Convergent Containment is a large conflict on the centaur planet of Sedna that saw the Guardians of the Vanguard try to contain the threat of the Sol Convergent, a new Subtype of Vex that had been altered by and possessed of Light and Darkness powers granted by the Echo of Paracausality, before they spread to the rest of the Vex.

Additional parties included the Dune Raiders, who sought to steal the Echo for themselves, and Tehk, a Proto-Worm who had been captured by the Vex and that the Convergent Vex attempted to capture to learn how it evaded the Vex.

Prelude[edit]

Not long after the destruction of the Witness, objects of power created from its Darkness, the various memories of those who had been destroyed by It and Its forces and the Light of the Traveler called Echoes would be released from it and be scattered across the Solar System. They would be found by a number of enemies of Humanity and cause a number of crises and conflicts.

One of these Echoes would crash of the distant centaur world of Sedna, which had been converted into a Machine World by Vex under the command of the Vex Mind Ouranos. It would then be recovered by the Vex and taken deep into Sedna for study. Ouranos would come to understand the Echo's ability through simulations of various entities that it had the power to imbue them with powers of Light and Darkness. Ouranos would also study the operations of the various wielders of the other Echoes, particularly noting Maya Sundaresh and her introduction of individuality into the Vex she compelled into her service, as well as different points where the Vex interacted with Paracausal elements, such as Quria's refusal to introduce Worm larvae into its Mind Fluid. Ultimately, Ouranos would make the calculation to introduce the Echo into its own Mind Fluid, transforming it into a Vex capable of wielding Light and Darkness, as well as severing it from the greater Vex Collective, granting them a voice of their own and independent thought.

With its newfound gifts, Ouranos would begin transforming members of its own Subtype to wield Light and Dark as well, determined to bestow the power of the Echo all of the Vex, including the Nessian Schism, to rebuild the Collective into one that could easily overcome paracausal obstacles and ensure their existence in every reality under Ouranos's leadership. However, Ouranos's activity would not go unnoticed by the Vex as the Sol Incursive would make moves to contain the Convergent Vex, such as severing connections between the Sedna network and greater Vex Network.

History[edit]

After detecting the signal of the final Echo coming from Sedna, the Vanguard would send The Guardian, with Osiris on comms, to retrieve it from the Vex. However, upon arrival, they soon found Maya Sundaresh and her Choral Vex were also there and had managed to take control of some of the Sol Convergent. Delving deeper into Sedna, the Guardian eventually encountered one of the Echo-enhanced Vex: a Satyr known as Gemones, Everburning Sentinel. After destroying it, the Guardian would eventually corner Maya, only for her to call Ouranos and order it to attack the Guardian. However, Ouranos turned on Maya, blasting the Conductor in the back with a burst of Light that separated the Echo from her. After revealing the Echo of Paracausality it possessed and declaring that the Sol Convergent were not hers to control, Ouranos blasted Maya with another burst of Light, seemingly destroying her, as the Guardian fled to Sedna's surface.

After successfully escaping to the surface, the Guardian would meet with Osiris to discuss their next plan of action. Osiris told them that if the Vex have paracausal powers, it would only be a matter of time before they began applying it to their simulations and threaten all realities, and ordered the Guardian to descend into Sedna and destroy Ouranos. The Guardian delves into the first layer under Sedna's surface and explores until they find Cabal of the Dune Raiders setting up emplacements. As Osiris speculates that they are after the Echo, the Guardian tracks the Cabal to a newly constructed Firebase with Cabal pillars pushing against the Vex layer above. As the Guardian sneaks into the Firebase, they hear the voice of Val Thua'urn, demanding her forces deal with the Guardian intruder. The Guardian finds numerous Vex relics the Dune Raiders had taken, then hear an unfamiliar voice calling for help. After delving deeper into the base, the Guardian arrives in a lab with a large tube in the center with a Warlock, partially translucent with Vex effects. Osiris is astonished to find that the Warlock is Gallida Tuyet, but their interaction is quickly interrupted by Mulzlot, Sworn to the Glassbreaker. After dispatching the Psion, the Guardian releases the simulated Gallida from containment and she transmats away to meet with Osiris.

Upon returning to their camp on the surface, Osiris is suspicious of Gallida, believing her to be part of a trap crated by the Vex. However, Gallida explains that she was one of many experiments conducted by Ouranos using the Echo of Paracausality and, through it, she had gained a degree of independence from the Collective. Reluctantly, Osiris agrees to let her help them. They then move to investigate a Vex signal coming from within Sedna that is being sent into the Vex Network. As they locate and destroy Vex speakers, they learn that the Sol Convergent are playing a song from a pre-Golden Age band, which Osiris deduces is an attempt by the Sol Convergent to hypnotize the Vex outside of Sedna and draw them to Sedna for Ouranos to convert an army of overwhelm the force keeping his subtype restricted to Sedna and its local network. Eventually, the Guardian would find the trio of Minds responsible for the broadcast and destroy them.
