Mindbent Brood, also known as the In Anânh's Brood or Mindbent, are the hive brood spawned under In Anânh and mind-controlled by the Scorned Baron Hiraks, the Mindbender.

History

As a simple Dreg of the House of Exile, Hiraks was weak and timid. He eventually found himself falling into the Hellmouth on Earth's Moon. He emerged as a changed Eliksni. He became obsessed with the study of the Hive and hasn't spoken a comprehensible word since his aforementioned time in the Hellmouth. Some say he learned his ways from The World's Grave or from the shrines or even through a form of unutterable language. Only Hiraks truly knows. Years later, Hiraks found the means to become Ascendant and form his own throne world within the Ascendant realm. He also gained a reputation for his ability to unravel his enemies' minds and take command over the Hive.

When Oryx fired the Dreadnaught's main weapon, the blast indiscriminately obliterated both Hive and Awoken vessels within a set radius of the Dreadnaught.

A portion of the Hive fleet, including some warships, was outside the blast zone at the time and survived but so many ships were lost that Oryx was forced to stall his invasion of the inner system. Four are known to have survived the Dreadnaught's superweapon.

One particular Hive warship crashed into the Tangled Shore following the battle, which was helmed by In Anânh, Brood Queen.

When the Scorn first arrived in the Tangled Shore, Hiraks took In Anânh as his consort, and with her help they spawned "Mindbent" Hive under their control. The Brood Queen, now a traitor to her kin, took refuge near a crashed warship at the Jetsam of Saturn and carved out a nest deep within the Shore.

Before Cayde-6 and his Six imprisoned him in the Prison of Elders with the other Barons he ran with, Hiraks warped the mind of a Hive brood stranded at the Tangled Shore, having taken In Anânh, Brood Queen as his consort and a Knight as his Familiar. Through their unholy matrimony, the Mindbender attempted to infuse Ether into Hive Knights and Worms to make them stronger. It briefly backfired due to Ether being somewhat poisonous for Hive, yet the Mindbender thought he could breed out their intolerance for Ether. He would partly succeed and the Mindbender would create a number of Ether-secreting Hive Knights and Worms, though the Worms' Ether would become unstable and explosive should the Knight perish. With this partial success, he and In Anânh planned to create a new Hive brood with traits of both species; Eliksni Ingenuity and Ether with Hive Ferocity and Magic.

After Hiraks met his end, The Spider sought to rid his Shore of the Hive and to prevent further experiments from taking place and enlisted a fireteam to eliminate the Brood Queen. In Anânh would confront the Guardians several times within her nesting grounds and call upon Ur, the Ever-Hunger for support to create a Shade of herself. Her efforts to repel the Guardians would be vain as she met her end at their hands, consumed by soulfire.
