"And my vanquisher will read that book, seeking the weapon, and they will come to understand me, where I have been and where I was going."
The following is a verbatim transcription of an official document for archival reasons. As the original content is transcribed word-for-word, any possible discrepancies and/or errors are included.

Step 1[edit]

Ikora wants you to investigate the relationship between dark matter and Kepler, but first she needs you to meet up with Lodi's Aionian contact in the Stacks.

  • Lodi's contact found

Integrating two of the strangelet capsules has helped progress Aionian research. It's now clear that the strangelets are intimately tied to the dark matter and Kepler itself. Lodi has made contact with an Aionian who may be able to shed some light on how the two are intermingled. He's set up a meeting in the Stacks.

  • Ikora: We're seeing a spike of Exile activity. Is this doctor safe on her own?
  • Lodi: It's true the Aionians are a peaceful bunch, but field work requires mettle. I'm sure her gauntlet did much more than look sharp. Speaking of, I'm at her research outpost. She's not here, which wouldn't normally be worrisome but the place is completely ransacked. No sign of her assistant either. He's usually―oh. Damnit.
  • Ikora: Lodi?
  • Lodi: Take care of those Exiles. Let me call you back.

Step 2[edit]

Dr. Carnahan's office has been ransacked. Trace amounts of of Stasis and Strand energy hang in the air. Find the culprits, and maybe the Dr.

  • Stasis Exiles defeated
  • Strand Exiles defeated

Lodi was directing you to Dr. Carnahan, a scientist working in the Outer Steppes, but her lab has been ransacked and no one is present. It could be tied to the uptick in Exile activity Lodi mentioned.

There's unusual Strand and Stasis energy energy in the wreckage. You're looking for Exiles with special equipment to get answers.

Step 3[edit]

Track down the last of the Exiles who ransacked the lab and claim the leader's Acceleron.

  • Exile Marauder defeated

The evidence gathered from the other Exiles has pointed you toward an Exile Marauder carrying an Acceleron.

Track down the ransacker and claim the Acceleron.

  • Lodi: Guardian, M-Miss Rey… Uh, I… I'm not really sure how to describe what I'm looking at. A, uh… a person, I, I think. I―It's a mess. There's―[exhales shakily] Someone was killed. I'm not sure who―there isn't enough… left to tell. I-I need to look around.
  • Ikora: Do you need backup?
  • Lodi: No. Patrol the area. Cold-blooded murder isn't usually the House of Exile's MO, but I have a hard time believing the Vex would be this… brutal.

Using a Relocator and Rosetta, the Guardian enters a circular cavern in the Stacks

  • Ghost: Ikora, Lodi, we've got another group of Exiles. Though nothing seem to be out of the ordinary apart from, well, the normal Exile abnormality.
  • Lodi: I've got some semblance of a trail leading out of here. Take care of those guys, I'll touch base when I've got a lead.
The Guardian defeats the Exiles and uses a Arc Charge to clear the way to Carnahan's lab. There, they defeat the Exiled Hermit
  • Lodi: Guardian, I've located Dr. Carnahan. She's safe but she's shaken. Understandably.
  • Ikora: If she's safe… then what you saw at the outpost…
  • Lodi: Yeah. Her assistant, Rhys. Budding linguist. He, uh, he didn't deserve this.

Step 4[edit]

Talk to Dr. Carnahan about the murder of her assistant.

  • Dr. Carnahan located

Dr. Carnahan escaped the ransacking of her lab—she's understandably shaken, but safe for now. Talk to her to find out what she may know about the situation.

" Dr. Carnahan acknowledges you with a respectful nod despite her severe demeanor. "Anomaly-Blessed, I am grateful to see you here." "

" "Some Eliksni broke into my lab and killed my assistant… my friend." You can hear the shake of anger and grief in her voice. "

" She continues. "They stole a valuable piece of technology. I know stopping the Exiles that did this won't bring him back…" "

" "But the technology they stole will do so much more damage in the wrong hands. Return it to me. Please." "

Step 5[edit]

Find the murderer. Exact justice and retrieve the stolen technology.

  • "Morphology" completed

Dr. Carnahan has worked out where the escaped murderer is heading, and not a moment too soon. Track them down and reclaim the dangerous technology they've stolen in mission "Morphology."

Note

See Mission: Morphology for a transcript of the mission.

  • Ghost: Dr. Carnahan asked us to find a piece of technology that the House of Exile stole when her assistant was murdered.
  • Lodi: Guardian, there's something here you need to get closer to the Singularity. I'm sending you some coordinates. Do these make any sense to you?
  • Ikora: I take it these are from the Nine?
  • Lodi: I have to assume so, unless the guys at Langley programmed me a trigger phrase before I left.

Step 6[edit]

Return to Dr. Carnahan with the Mattermorph technology.

  • Mattermorph returned

The technology that Dr. Carnahan was interested in is something called "Mattermorph," a strange mesh of the local flora and dark matter that, through the catalyst of Strand, allows manipulation of objects infused with dark matter. Return to the Doctor and let her know that you've recovered the technology.

" "Anomaly-Blessed, thank you for reclaiming the stolen technology. In any other circumstance, I would destroy it." "

" "Let it live among our many failures… but perhaps there is still some good to be done with it. I entrust it to you." "

Step 7[edit]

Retrieve the Outer Steppes strangelet capsule in mission "Charge."

  • "Charge" completed

The Altar of Relativity continues to grow unstable, and repairing it won't be as easy as flipping a switch. In order to integrate the Outer Steppes strangelet capsule, you'll need to reinitialize the Altar's primary power source.

Note

See Charge for a transcript of the mission.

  • Orin: You can probably feel it too… The slow pull of gravity stolen, directed.
  • Lodi: I think I follow… Who's doing the stealing?
  • Orin: The mycelial priest―ugh, stop. The Archon!
  • Lodi: You're saying the Archon's getting the power of the Nine somehow, and that's why he's so dangerous?
  • Orin: Yes, his Grand Design smells of Unknown Space. This "Giver" did not give gifts willingly.
The Guardian heads outside of Carnahan's lab
  • Lodi: I spoke with Dean Rebecca about Kepler's degradation status. With the strangelets we've been able to keep the Altar of Relativity stable, but it's not going to be enough to get us through it to III.
  • Ikora: We'll need to get them a stronger source of power. What options do we have on a planetoid as remote as Kepler?
  • Lodi: It sounds like these folks have been relying on some shaky generators since the House of Exile took over their power planet in the Outer Steppes.
  • Ikora: Then getting them a stable power source is our next step. Guardian, you take point. Head to that plant to see what can be done to remove the Exile threat and get it up and running again.
  • Orin: A Strangelet sulks in the corners of the Steppes.
  • Ikora: Glad to have you along, Orin. And good to know. We'll help the Aionians and get a few steps closer to reaching the Nine.
