The Last Word is an Exotic Hand Cannon in Destiny: Rising.

Perks[edit]

Traits[edit]

  • Fan Fire: This weapon gains the Paid in Full buff for 5s after hitting a target with a hip-fired shot, gradually increasing damage dealt by up to 40% and reload speed by up to 40%. When aimed shots land precision hits, it gains the Settled in Turn buff for 5s, gradually increasing precision damage dealt by up to 60% and accuracy by 40. Reloading removes these buffs.

"Yours…not mine."

"Greetings, sir. Do you have a moment to spare?"

The question yanks the daydreaming Mick back to reality.

He raises his head and looks up at the impeccably dressed man before him, utterly bewildered. What would a guy like this want with a fifteen-year-old boy who'd only just left his hometown, who had yet to embark on any grand journeys? Why, he's still dreaming of the day he'll make his glorious return, having a name for himself—the day he'll be the one calling the shots around town!

"I'm from Haven, one of Iron Lord Radegast's lieutenants. You can call me Ricardo."

Mick watches the man as he bows. He can't help his wide-eyed stare—never in his life had someone showed him such respect! And especially not from someone like a…an Iron Lord's lieutenant. Could it be? Could someone of actual importance have actually seen some special, untapped potential in him?!

Mick licks his dry lips, above which a few beads of sweat have found their way into the sparse, youthful peach fuzz. He tries his best to keep his voice form cracking as he replies, "Hello. What can I help you with?"

"Allow me to explain," Ricardo says with a polite smile. "Trade with and within Haven has been steadily expanding. This has led to many vacant positions in the city's marketing department that have always been difficult to fill. But Haven, as you know, has been a place that puts quality before quantity. Thus, despite facing a serious shortage of manpower, we are still very strict in our selection of candidates and will only accept the best person for the position."

Mick tries to think back to how all those important people acted and talked. At last, after what feels like minutes since Ricardo has finished talking, he nods his head and raises his chin. "I know—Lord Reys mentioned it. Please, continue."

"A person of relative status recommended you for the 'Market Architect' position."

Ricardo hadn't let Mick down. Yes! He really is here for me! Thinking of it has the boy's heart skip a beat. He begins recalling everything he'd previously done, trying desperately to figure out how he'd got this big wig's attention. Maybe it was because he'd managed to haggle the price of those kinda ugly-looking bananas down yesterday? Or maybe it was the day before that, when—

"Ahem," another voice suddenly interjects. "Ricardo?"

Mick looks at the source of the voice and is met with a cowboy hat and sunglasses. Well, that's rude, he thinks. A guy as important as Ricardo is here and you ain't even gonna take off your hat?

"And you are?" Ricardo stares at the interrupting man with suspicion.

The cowboy straightens his hat. "Got anything you want to say to your loved ones?"

"Uh… What?" Ricardo looks even more suspicious.

Mick, on the other hand, feels pissed. This rude cowboy interrupted Ricardo, who was offering him a job as a markey architect in Haven, to ask THAT? He grits his teth and clenches his fist, but just as he's about to tell him to get lost, he sees him raise a hand cannon.

"Time's up. If those were your last words…"

What comes next is loud noises, chaos, a man scrambling, then warm, sticky crimson… And in the middle of it all stands Mick, his mind completely blank.

One week later.

"I knew that guy was a con man the second he opened his mouth, know what I'm sayin?" Mick is leaning against a lamppost with his arms crossed over his chest and his chin held high. "Haven's like…ten thousand miles from here. Who'd seriously travel that far looking for workers? But I didn't call him out, 'cause I knew that legendary cowboy would come and put him in his place."

The crowd begins clamoring to hear more.

"He was wearing a white cowboy hat, and he had these, like—super cool, retro sunglasses. Oh! And a red cloak with a fierce-looking deer on it…

…That scammer knew he was in trouble, so he turned and tried to run. But then the cowboy whipped out this sick black and gold hand cannon, and…BANG! He pulled the trigger. When I asked why he'd turned around, he just said, 'Didn't want that scumbag's blood getting in my eyes.'"

Folks who have just wrapped up the day's work gather around to listen to this new tale with relish. Meanwhile, a notice tracked to the nearby billboard flutters in the breeze.

"…Recently, a notorious slave trader was brought to justice in this town. His victims were numerous, with his primary targets being children and teenagers…"
