Retrieval Record 0019: 210th Solar Day — Bergusia Forge, European Dead Zone, Earth
"Ugh! This thing's worse than a slot machine!" Dmitri withdraws his fist from a Goblin's chest.
The charred stench of ionization permeates the air. "If it doesn't work this time, I'm demanding a transfer!"
"Tell me the truth, Elias. Are you sure there's nothing wrong with the intel? We've activated this forge at least sixty times already." The sniper takes a brief breath, and the next shot hits the Cyclops straight in its glowing core. "Can we really not think of any other way? Like—I dunno, going back and asking Ada about the design documents again?"
"I've already told you, there is no such thing." Elias leans forward to avoid the radiolarian fluid spewed by an exploding Fanatic, yet still speaks with a steady voice. "Henriette may have agreed with Helga's proposal to cooperate with BrayTech, but she was still worried about them taking their core technology. Hence her encoding the designs in the casting program of the Black Armory's forges."
"And that's why the only way to get our hands on Jötunn—" He leaps onto a floating platform and, with a blazing bullet, turns a Harpy into a shooting star flickering against the jade sky of Nessus. "—is to wait for the tiny chance that the forge program triggers, then use it to 'incorrectly' cast the finished product."
"Also—" He turns toward the tall man now fiercely hammering at a Minotaur, "—you're out of your mind. A transfer? To where, Dmitri? We need to wait here until we get the gun."
"Oh, screw you." Dmitri throws the still-convulsing Minotaur into a wall. The shots from his machine gun fail to conceal the roar of desperation and rage he lets out.
"I should've never agreed to this. I should've just stayed in that underground city," Heidi says through gritted teeth.
"At least you'll always have something to look forward to." As Elias says this, a Hydra's shell finally splits into pieces, and the forge whistles its signal of completion.
"Well? How is it?" Heidi asks from her sniper position.
The answer she receives over their comms channel is ear-piercing white noise.
"Um. Everyone…" Elias's Ghost breaks the silence. "It seems another fireteam at Earth's Bergusia Forge has secured the target weapon."
"So I'm thinking…" The Ghost's voice is hesitant. "There might be a possibility that…we've been…"
"Don't… Don't say it…" Elias hastily interrupts, as if trying to get himself out of trouble.
"Just… plot a route to Earth…"
