Shadows of the Night is the second story mission of the first part of the Paradox expansion's storyline. While the Vanguard debates on the emergence of a hitherto unknown Cabal Legion on Earth itself, The Guardian is directed to Deimos by the Exo Stranger, where they discover the first of the Eclipse-based subclasses: Fusion.

Fade in to a view of the twin Martian moons, Phobos and Deimos, and the gaping hole left by Mars' absence. Piloting their ship, the Guardian arrives within the local orbit of Deimos.
- Commander Zavala: The discovery of these mysterious beings we now call the "Shadowkeepers" and their connection to the Darkness is a breakthrough. Eris Morn is working with Ikora Rey and Osiris to form a plan to address this, and I believe they will see this through. In the meantime, the Hidden and Variks are investigating the activities of the Cabal. The loss of their planet, Mars to the Black Fleet is worrisome. More intelligence is required.
- Ghost: Zavala, what exactly does this have to do with what's happened on Earth?
- Zavala: We don't know much, but I can tell you that your encounter with Eobard Thawne was just the beginning of what's about to be a major battle.
