The Ishtar Collective was a Golden Age organization dedicated to scientific advancement. The Collective built the Ishtar Academy, a famed center of research and learning, on Venus, and extensively studied the planet's Vex ruins. The Collective was a rival of the corporation Clovis Bray.[1][2]

The members of the collective studied active Vex ruins, such as mapping the Vault of Glass,[3] as well as a live Vex specimen. The Vex was able to successfully simulate the researchers completely, causing them much distress. After calling in a Warmind to intervene on their behalf, however, they were able to rescue 227 copies of themselves from the Vex's mind, and sent them into The Citadel to explore the Vex Network.[4]
