Gahlran, Sorrow-Bearer was a member of Emperor Calus' Loyalist faction. He was born for the specific purpose of wielding a Hive artifact, the Crown of Sorrow, and using its powers to further Calus' goals. The Crown, however, was stronger than expected, and it made Gahlran lose his mind. As a result, the Hive had begun to infest some of the Leviathan's deepest treasure vaults. He is the final boss of the Crown of Sorrow (Raid).

After the Guardian infiltrates his Kingdom of Sorrow, he confronts them and tries to defend himself with help from his Gahlran's Deception. Gahlran and his Deception are ultimately slain by the Raid fireteam.

• Judging from the Lore tabs, Gahlran is merely a few hours old.
• Gahlran is the second individual from another race to command the Hive. The first being Hiraks, the Mindbender of the Scorn.
