65 Cybele is an asteroid in the asteroid belt.

History[edit]

Following the Collapse, the Awoken colonized the asteroid and developed it into a key military fortress.

Most of his lieutenants dead or captured, Skolas planned an attack on Cybele to change the tide of the war.[1] Thanks to Variks' betrayal,[2] however, the Reef knew of this, and so when he arrived all four Armada Paladins were waiting with a large fleet. Defeated in a decisive battle, surrounded on all sides, Skolas was captured and locked away in the Prison of Elders.[3][4] Most of the Silent Fang were killed, and the rest captured.[5]

Trivia[edit]

  • Von Steinheil elected to name it "Maximiliana" after the reigning monarch Maximilian II of Bavaria. At the time, asteroids were conventionally given classical names, and a number of astronomers protested this contemporary appellation. The name Cybele was chosen instead, referring to the Phrygian goddess of the earth.[6]
