Osana Sov is the mother of Mara Sov and Uldren Sov.

Biography[edit]

During the late Golden Age, Mara asked Osana and Uldwyn to join Project Amrita with her.[2] Aboard the Yang Liwei, Osana worked as part of the Auturge 3rd Class. After Mara began to develop a "cult" following, Osana reported Mara to Captain Alice Li.[3]

During the initial stages of the Collapse, the Yang Liwei encountered the Black Fleet at the edge of the Sol System. As the vessel came under attack, the Traveler fired a beam of Light to counteract the Darkness, creating a singularity that Osana, her children, and the rest of the Yang Liwei fell into.[4]

In the singularity, which would be known as the Distributary, Osana was reborn as an Awoken, alongside the rest of the passengers of the Yang Liwei. Alice, reborn as Alis Li, would become the first Queen.[5] Osana would live in the forest tribes as a negotiater for contested land. Uldwyn, reborn as Uldren, would bring her news from the other tribes.[6]

Towards the end of the Theodicy War, Mara had Osana and Uldren negotiate peace with the Diasyrm on Queen Alis Li's behalf. Osana offered the Eccaleists, those loyal to the Diasyrm, secrets known to Mara Sov. Osana attempted to convince the Diasyrm to become a teacher or midwife to repent for the murders she had caused.[7]

Sometime after the war, Osana and Uldren visited Mara, and shared a fire with her. Osana interrogated her about her role in the creation of the Eccaleists and the Theodicy War. Mara evaded her question, instead providing her and Uldren with food. Osana warned Mara that whatever she remembered if their lives before becoming Awoken, they couldn't have been as good as they are now. Mara told them to eat well, as they would begin a journey the next day.[8]

As time went on and Mara's plans progressed, Osana began to worry about her control over Uldren, and threatened that a time might come where she could no longer be her friend.[9] When the time came and Mara, Uldren, and many other Awoken prepared to leave the Distributary, Osana refused to leave with them, preferring to stay on her ranch. As Mara left the Distributary, she attempted a final call to Osana, but received no signal.[10]

Legacy[edit]

Mara would have a statue of Osana built in the Harbinger's Seclude in the Dreaming City, despite Uldren's wish for her to be forgotten.[1]

When Mara prepared for the arrival of Oryx, the Taken King, she communed with the Oracle Engine, which showed her three visions of those closest to her; Sjur Eido, Uldren, and Osana. Mara payed her respects to Osana by planting a flower in her honor, and confessing that despite always pushing her away, she had always loved her.[11]

Uldren would tell tales of Osana, Mara and himself, as kestrels; Mother Kestrel, Rega, and Ager. According to these tales, Osana crafted Ager's Scepter, which was intended as a gift for Uldren.[12]
