- "Made in the image of Darkblades and their progenitor, Shin'ra."
Templars are powerful Hive Darkblades, transmogrified and commanded by the Witness, its Disciples and allies; created by the newly risen Disciple Shin'ra. They are made in the image of Shin'ra, being the progenitor of Darkblades and wield the Paracausal power of Corruption.
Overview[edit]
Templars are hulking Hive warriors that resemble Darkblades that have been outfitted with Dread armor and adornments. Their heads are metallic and faceless with only a small yellow light emanating from their heads in the shape of Shin'ra's Dread sigil. Their armor is primarily black, gray and dark orange while their skin is a dark brown color. They wield massive Dread Axes that resemble the original Hive Axe wielded by Darkblades that deal Corruption damage.
The Templars are former Celebrants of Shin'ra that were reshaped by both the Witness and the Hive Disciple, with their minds being merged with other Hive that the Witness and Shin'ra brought into the Pale Heart. When it came to Osmium, Templar of the Monolith, his own mind was consumed by the voices of the other Hive within his head, only for Shin'ra to grant his mind the extra strength to overcome the voices. He claimed that he must "take control of the path ahead" and allowed him to control the voices along with his newfound power from the Witness.
Gameplay[edit]
Templars will act similarly to their Darkblade progenitors, slowly advancing towards their targets with their massive axes. When slamming their axe into the ground, they will leave a pool of Corruption upon impact and will last a total of ten seconds before it dissipates. Another attack of theirs includes spinning their axe into the air and flinging more Corruption pools around the area.
Similar to the Tormentors, only their shoulders will be damageable and every other part of their bodies is immune to all damage apart from supers.
When their shoulder weak points are broken, the Templar's helmets will fall off and their chest weak point will reveal itself. In this enraged state, they will move faster and they leave a trail of Corruption in their path. While keeping the other previous abilities they have, the Templars are given a new ability as instead of slamming their axe onto the ground, they will grab targets and begin to drain them, when fighting against Guardians, they will drain their grenade, melee and class energies.

Templar's Mark[edit]
- "— Cut away the unwanted necessities and open up to the voices of the chorus. — "
- — Description
Resonant memory lines the material of this armor. Imprinted within the folds of forged protection lies the flayed origin of the Dread.
***
Shin'ra sets the imprint of the Dread as the Witness holds the knife, preparing for the next incision.
The Celebrant known as Osmium stands within a pile of rotting egregore, he could barely make out the voices emanating from it. He could feel the pain and sorrow from those within it.
The Witness cuts open Osmium, peeling back his chitin, divulging his muscles and guts, along with his corroding worm.
"This hunger will hinder you."
The Witness takes from Osmium his worm and crushes it within its hands. It sets the egregore upon Osmium, enveloping him in the twisting roots of decay and Darkness. He screams as the pain sets into him, but the Witness does not respond.
Trivia[edit]
- While not referred to as Templars in-game, they are instead called Templars of the Witness.
- While the Templars are stated to be converted Celebrants of Shin'ra, there is a possibility that Zâtrox and Storgor were also converted into Templars due to them also being his Celebrants.
