- "I only wanted greatness. To have something to remember me by. To create a new future my people could prosper in. Know this as I do what I do. From their bones, I create an heir, an heir that will elevate the Eliksni to greatness. One that will take upon itself the mantle of god amongst all. A god that shall smite down those that stole our time of greatness. A god with no equal. (...) But why am I plagued by doubt; by this question of whether or not it's all worth it? The wholesale destruction of a city of non-combative creatures? Innocent alongside guilty purged by flame? Is that... just? I... I don't know. All I know is I have to do this. I must do this. I can't stop. I don't want to be forgotten."
- — The last confessions of Phraxas, taken from her accounts
Phraxas, the Shattered is a Fallen Splicer formerly of the House of Wolves now under the banner of the House of Dusk. She was presumed dead during the Wolf Rebellion before she went into hiding, tinkering with Servitors and researching the Golden Age of Humanity from borrowed accounts. She would become fascinated with the legends of the Warminds, and would discover the true power behind Seraph Tech after watching the Guardians in the Hellas Basin, and would soon endeavor to find control over one buried within the Cosmodrome. She is the mastermind behind the assault on Ashurbanipal's Warmind bunker, and serves as the first true boss of the Fractured Whispers Raid.
Biography[edit]
Early Life and the Reef Wars[edit]
- "Their systems wouldn't respond to any input, try as they might. They only realized why when their comms were filled with the cackling of Phraxas. Amethyst's cries for help were drowned in blood, as the Silent Fang, led by Drevis, slaughtered everyone aboard."
- — Abstract from the former WANTED board for Phraxas
Phraxas was born during the Long Drift to parents she has long since forgotten and believed killed in a fight for more Ether. For most of her life, she was raised by the House's more conservative Splicer group, and was taught from a young age of the weakness of flesh and the desire to seek knowledge where she can. By the time the House of Wolves had reached the Sol System, she had mastered her people's tech and had already replaced much of her limbs with mechanical enhancements. While at first she almost admired The Traveler's choice for humanity, she instead became consumed by rage alongside the rest of her people.
During the opening of the Reef Wars, she was initially loyal to Irxis by virtue of her splicer conclave being focalized mainly among the baroness' fleet. Sometime before the Eos Clash, however, she would be contacted by Skolas, who would promise her control over the Orbiks line, vast troves of tech and Ether, and a place amidst his inner circle in exchange for her loyalty; she would later recall she accepted this deal with greedy glee, despite her friendships with her Splicer peers. During the Eos Clash, she would make her move and disable much of Irxis' fleets' weapons and shields, allowing Peekis' forces to more evenly destroy the larger fleet. After Peekis' recklessness was punished despite having the advantage, Skolas would make on his promise, and Phraxas became among Skolas' most essential pieces in the war.
Her first charge under the command of Skolas was to aid Drevis, Wolf Baroness and the Silent Fang on their assault on Amethyst. After a few days of struggling to breach the Awoken's rather advanced firewalls, she was in. She cut communications from the station and locked out many of the functions for the people aboard, all the while allowing the Silent Fang to more effectively slaughter everyone aboard by opening and closing certain sections of the station. Her role in the Razing of Amethyst, as well as archived glee in the systems' comms, would earn her the monicker Amethyst's Doom by much of the Awoken; her role in the slaughter, as well as newfound prowess in overriding Awoken systems, marked her as a priority target by the Paladins.
She would later play a role in the Siege of Pallas, taking down much of the early warning systems and allowing Pirsis' forces to be far more effective in their assault and allowed most of their forces to land in their search for Drevis. However, she would enter a cyber war with the Crows for control over the settlements' network, with any breaches into the network immediately sealed off by the special operatives. Nevertheless, throughout the siege, she would utilize her newfound control over the Orbiks line of Servitors as well as mastery of Shanks and create terrifyingly effective swarms of offensive units that swiftly earned a reputation among the defenders of Pallas, allowing some pressure to ease off of Pirsis' main forces. Shortly before the siege's end, however, she would aid Skolas in evading the Awoken alongside Beltrik, the Veiled at the Battle of False Tidings, falsifying his signature on Awoken vessels and allowing him to disappear.
As Skolas' forces were ending up dead or captured, however, she noticed how the pressure was starting to get to her Kell, making him far more reckless and vicious, with an incident almost ending up with the Splicer's neck broken. With the Reef War starting to take its toll, she began to doubt Skolas' might and considered defecting to the Awoken, but was stopped when a seed of rage born by her peers ultimately kept her within his ranks, believing that, even should the bitter end come, he was the best bet for vindication for the Eliksni. At the advent of the Cybele Uprising, she had intercepted Variks' intelligence to the Awoken and tried to warn Skolas of the trap waiting for them to no avail, as the Kell believed that fear would have kept his scribe in line and, even if true, that it was far too late for Cybele to stop them. But the trap was sprung, and her Kell's forces were overwhelmed, resulting in her capture; one she resignedly accepted in the end.
