Crota is an ancient ruler of the Hive, who led them in past conflicts, including battles against humanity, where he conquered the Moon. He wielded the Sword of Crota, a weapon used to kill countless Guardians. Crota is the main villain in The Dark Below, where the Hive have awoken Crota to attack humanity. Crota is one of the many gods worshiped by the Hive, and is typically the one described as conquering Earth for the sake of his "king",[1] most likely his creator Oryx.[2] Crota has a sect devoted to him, who are said to have been mothered by the Omnigul,[3] though he himself belongs to the Blood of Oryx sect.
Six Guardians attempted to kill Crota, but the Hive managed to trap his soul. Only one of the Guardians, Eris, survived to tell the tale. Crota's revival will mean a full-scale Hive invasion of Earth and its inevitable destruction.
