In a ritual known as the Inquisition of Self Malkanth would place Akrazuls essence within Azavaths body, severing the latter in the process. The plan failed however, when the fusion revealed itself as more bloodthirsty than anticipated and engaged in uncontrolled slaughter, including both Malkanth and the pits champion, Zulmak.

An ambitious Guardian followed a tip from Eris Morn on the empowerment of the Deathbringer through the death of a Deathsinger Wizard. Ir Airâm and her coven of Arias would be the targets of this attack thanks to Toland, the Shattered and would all be killed and their song stolen for the Guardian's own personal use.
